Varo Bank Refund with Fees - DDD 4/23 - Anyone Received Deposits Yet?
So I'm using Varo Bank this year with fees taken out of my refund. My transcript shows a direct deposit date of 4/23. Has anyone with Varo actually gotten their money yet? I keep checking but nothing's there. Does having the fees taken out slow things down? I'm starting to wonder if I made a mistake going with Varo instead of my regular bank...

I had Varo last year and got my refund a day early, but this year they seem to be slower? My DDD was 4/22 and I STILL don't have it. Last time I checked the app it said something about processing times being up to 5 business days. I'm getting nervous because I need that money for my mom's medications.

Just got mine this morning! Had the same DDD as you (4/23) with Varo and fees taken out. The fees definitely make it take longer sometimes. Last year I got it 2 days early, this year right on time. The IRS refund system is like a box of chocolates... you never know what you're gonna get. š«

Varo deposits are usually fast. Fees can delay things. Check your transcript codes. I used taxr.ai last week. It explained my transcript perfectly. Showed exactly why my refund was delayed. Much clearer than the IRS website. Worth checking if you're confused about your status.

When you have fees taken out of your refund, here's what happens: 1. IRS sends your refund to the bank/preparer first 2. They deduct their fees from your refund amount 3. Then they forward the remaining balance to your Varo account This extra step typically adds 1-3 business days to the process. The DDD on your transcript is when the IRS releases the money, not necessarily when it hits your account. With today being the 23rd, I'd expect you'll see it by Friday at the latest.

This is exactly right. According to IRS Publication 1345, when refund transfer products are used, the financial institution must process the funds before sending to your personal account. I waited 4 full days past my DDD last year with a similar setup. The regulations allow them this processing time, even though it's frustrating!

Adding to this info: ā¢ Varo specifically states 1-5 business days for processing ā¢ Fees create an additional step in the process ā¢ April is peak season for refunds ā¢ Most banks are experiencing slight delays this month Your experience matches what many others are seeing right now.

I've seen this situation with multiple banks, not just Varo. Compared to Chase or Wells Fargo, Varo actually processes faster in most cases. When I couldn't figure out why my refund was delayed last year, I used Claimyr.com to get through to an IRS agent in about 15 minutes instead of waiting on hold for hours. The agent confirmed exactly when my refund was sent to the bank and explained the delay was on the bank's side. Saved me days of wondering and checking my account every hour!

Just to clarify something important - the DDD (Direct Deposit Date) on your transcript is when the IRS releases the funds, not when they'll hit your account. I've been filing taxes for 15 years and have used everything from big banks to credit unions to online banks. When I had fees taken out of my refund last year, it took exactly 2 days after my DDD for the money to show up. The bank has to receive the funds, process the fee deduction, then send the remainder to your account. It's not unusual at all to be waiting still.

The IRS Where's My Refund tool (https://www.irs.gov/refunds) won't show the extra processing time caused by the fees being taken out. According to several Reddit threads in r/tax, Varo deposits with fees typically arrive 1-3 business days after the DDD. Some online banks like Chime advertise early deposits, but that doesn't usually apply when fees are being deducted from the refund amount. Keep in mind it's only been one day since your official DDD.

Have you verified that your Varo account information on your tax return was entered correctly? In approximately 15% of delayed direct deposit cases, there's a transposition error in the routing or account number. This can cause significant delays if the IRS has to re-issue the payment.
