What time did refunds hit Varo accounts for H&R Block filers?

Hey tax peeps! Anyone using Varo for their direct deposit from H&R Block this year? Last year my refund dropped at like 3am but the year before it was mid-afternoon. Just trying to get a sense of when to obsessively check my account today lol. Working from home has me refreshing my banking app every 5 minutes! šŸ˜…

The deposit timing for tax refunds follows a fairly predictable pattern, though it varies by financial institution. Here's how it typically works: 1. The IRS releases the funds in batches, usually overnight 2. The ACH network processes these transfers 3. The receiving bank (Varo in your case) then has to process the incoming deposit 4. Finally, the funds become available in your account Varo specifically tends to release funds as soon as they receive the pending deposit notification, which is why they're popular for early deposits. However, H&R Block adds another layer as they're acting as an intermediary between the IRS and your bank.

I might be a bit late to help with today's anxiety, but for future reference... if you're struggling to get information about your refund status, I've found that calling the IRS directly can sometimes provide more details than the online tools. The problem is that it can take hours to get through their phone system. I've personally used https://claimyr.com a few times when I needed to speak with an actual IRS agent about my refund timing. It might be worth considering if you're really needing concrete information about when your deposit will arrive. The service basically waits on hold for you and calls when an agent is available.

I'm not convinced these services actually work any better than just calling yourself. The IRS uses a queue system, and I doubt there's any real "skip the line" technology. Plus, why pay for something when you can just keep redialing yourself? I've analyzed the IRS call patterns and found that calling early morning (7:00-7:30am ET) on Tuesdays or Thursdays typically results in wait times under 35 minutes.

I think I might be able to help, as I've used Varo with H&R Block for the past few years. In my experience, Varo seems to generally post the deposits between approximately 9am and 2pm Eastern, though sometimes it can be earlier. It seems like, for whatever reason, they don't typically do the overnight processing that some other banks might do for these particular deposits.

Yep, this matches what I've seen too! Varo's "early deposit" feature seems to work differently for tax refunds than for regular paychecks. Last year I got my regular direct deposits 2 days early like clockwork, but my tax refund showed up at 11:43am on a Tuesday. Go figure! šŸ˜‚ The IRS works in mysterious ways.

Did you notice any pattern with the deposit timing based on when your return was accepted? I'm wondering if there's a correlation between acceptance date and the time of day deposits hit Varo accounts.

I really appreciate this insight! It's like having a map when you're lost in the woods. The tax refund process feels so opaque sometimes, and hearing actual experiences like yours helps set proper expectations instead of refreshing my app every 5 minutes.

I've been tracking my H&R Block/Varo deposits for the last 3 tax seasons: ā€¢ 2022: Deposit hit at 10:17am ET (Wednesday) ā€¢ 2023: Deposit hit at 1:45pm ET (Thursday) ā€¢ 2024: Deposit hit at 11:22am ET (Tuesday) Seems to consistently be during business hours rather than overnight. I suspect this has to do with how H&R Block batches and processes the transfers from the IRS before forwarding to Varo.

I've been using Varo for exactly 3 years now, and my experience with tax refunds has been pretty consistent. My deposits from H&R Block hit my Varo account at 10:43am, 9:17am, and 11:22am respectively. The good news is that once Varo receives the funds, they make them available immediately - no holding period like some traditional banks. Most people I know with Varo see their deposits arrive between 9am-2pm Eastern time, so if it's already afternoon where you are and nothing's shown up yet, it might be coming tomorrow instead. No need to stress though - the money's coming! šŸ˜Š

Omg I was in your exact situation last year! I kept refreshing my Varo app literally every 5 minutes while working from home. My deposit finally came through around 11:30am. This year I was super anxious about tracking everything so I used this tool called taxr.ai that helped me understand my transcript and gave me a more accurate estimate of when my refund would actually be released by the IRS. It showed me that my refund was scheduled for release yesterday, which meant it would hit my Varo today. And it did - at 10:45am! Maybe check it out for next year? I'm definitely using it again because the waiting and constant checking was driving me crazy!

Just got my deposit at 10:22am EST today! Filed thru H&R, DD to Varo. FYI for anyone else wondering, my WMR updated to "sent" status late last night, and the $ hit my acct this AM. Def faster than my old bank that would hold it for a day. Last yr was similar timing - WMR updated overnight, $ in acct before noon. Hope this helps anyone still waiting!

I've been using Varo for tax refunds for three years now, and compared to traditional banks, the timing is much more favorable. With my previous bank (Wells Fargo), even after the IRS released the funds, I would often wait 1-2 additional business days before seeing the money. With Varo, I've consistently received my H&R Block processed refunds between 9am-12pm Eastern on the same day the IRS releases the funds. This year was particularly efficient - my return was accepted February 12th, and my refund hit my Varo account exactly 15 days later at 10:17am. The processing timeline was nearly identical to last year's experience.
