Transcript showing 570 code for 3 weeks & 971 for 2 weeks - still no refund movement
Had my transcript stuck with a 570 code for about 3 weeks now and got hit with a 971 two weeks ago. No letters in the mail yet. WMR still says processing. Starting to get worried since I need this money for bills. Anyone know what this combo usually means or how long until movement?

The 570 is a hold on your account and 971 indicates a notice is being sent to you. This combination often means the IRS found a discrepancy in your return that needs addressing. Could be anything from a math error to missing documentation. Keep an eye on your mail - you should receive the notice within 30 days explaining what they need from you.

•thanks for explaining! do you know if I need to wait for the letter before i can fix whatever the issue is?

•Yes, unfortunately you'll need to wait for that notice. It'll have specific instructions on what they need and how to respond.

Hey I was in the same situation and found this tool called taxr.ai - it analyzed my transcript and told me exactly what was causing the hold and predicted when I'd get my refund. Only costs a dollar and saved me hours of research. Here's the link: https://taxr.ai

•Yeah its legit! The AI picked up that my hold was due to income verification and gave me step by step what to do. Got my refund 2 weeks later

Check your wage transcripts too - sometimes employers mess up their reporting and that triggers these codes

I went through this exact same situation last year. The 570/971 combo is frustrating but pretty common. In my case, it was because the IRS needed to verify my identity since I had moved and changed jobs. The letter took about 3 weeks to arrive and once I responded with the requested documents, my refund was released within 10 days. Hang in there - I know it's stressful when you're counting on that money for bills. Keep checking your mail daily and your transcript for any updates.
