Transcript Updated After ID Verification But Still Getting Verification Letter?

Anyone have their transcript update without actually doing verification? I've been checking my transcripts on the IRS website daily since 2/15. Was supposed to get a verification letter (according to WMR) but my transcript suddenly updated this morning. Then the verification letter finally arrived in today's mail - dated over a month ago (3/12). The letter says I need to verify for my taxes to process, but my transcript is already showing updates. So will I actually get my DDD or do I still need to verify? Tried calling the verification hotline but got the "call back next business day" message. Here's what my transcript shows now: [screenshot mentioned but not attached]

I've been through this exact situation before. Here's what's happening: • The IRS computer systems and verification processes aren't always in sync • Your return likely passed automated verification after the letter was generated • The transcript update is a GOOD sign - it means your return is moving forward • You should still verify your identity as requested, just to be safe • If you can't get through on the phone, try the ID.me verification through the IRS website The fact that your transcript updated means the system is processing your return. Many of us have seen this happen where the verification requirement gets satisfied by other means.

This is spot on! It's like when your online shopping order says "processing" but then suddenly shows up at your door. The IRS systems often work in parallel rather than sequentially, so your return can move forward while verification notices are still in process. Your transcript update is the most current status indicator.

Per IRS Publication 5027, verification notices are generated when the Taxpayer Protection Program flags a return, but Section 3.4.1 states that returns can be released from review prior to verification completion if other authentication factors are satisfied. Would you say this is what happened here?

I had this happen. Was very confused. Used taxr.ai to analyze my transcript. It explained everything. The site showed which codes meant verification was no longer needed. Saved me hours of worry. My refund came three days later. No need to verify after all. Worth checking out.

Been thru this last yr w/ similar timeline. IRS systems don't talk to each other well tbh. If ur still worried abt getting thru to verify, I used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) and got connected in ~15 mins instead of the usual 2hr+ wait. Agent confirmed my return was already moving fwd despite the letter. Transcript updates are def more current than mail notices.

I'm somewhat skeptical about these services that charge just to connect you to a government agency. Couldn't you possibly accomplish the same thing by calling right when the IRS opens in the morning? I've had some success with that approach, though I admit it's not guaranteed.

I actually tried calling right at opening for three days straight last year when I had a similar verification issue. Never got through once. Did you have to provide any personal info to this Claimyr service? I'm always cautious about sharing my details with third parties.

Had this exact situation happen in March! My transcript updated before I even got the verification letter - isn't that just how government efficiency works? I decided to verify anyway through ID.me just to be safe, but my refund was already being processed. Got my direct deposit exactly 8 days after the transcript updated. The transcript is always more current than any mail they send, especially this tax season.

I might be the cautionary tale here. I thought my verification was resolved automatically too. My transcript updated. I didn't verify. Then everything stopped. Had to start over. Maybe just verify to be safe? It only takes a few minutes. I don't want to scare you. Just sharing what happened to me.

The verification bypass phenomenon occurs when the Taxpayer Protection Program (TPP) releases your return based on secondary authentication factors. This typically happens within 45 days of initial hold placement. Your transcript codes are the definitive status indicator, not the letter. Act immediately if you see 570/971 combination codes reappear - that would indicate verification is still required despite the initial release.

Did your transcript show the 570/971 combo codes before it updated? And did those codes disappear with the update? I'm asking because I've been waiting since January with those codes and wondering if mine might resolve itself too.

I'm in a very similar boat! Got my verification letter yesterday (also dated over a month ago - seems like there's a serious mail delay this year) but my transcript updated two days ago. I called the verification line this morning and actually got through after about 45 minutes on hold. The agent told me that since my transcript is already showing processing codes, I don't need to complete verification unless I see those 570/971 codes come back. She said the automated systems caught up and cleared my return without manual verification needed. Might be worth trying the phone line again - I called right at 7am EST and got through relatively quickly compared to other times I've tried.
