TPG Funded on 2/22 but Still No Deposit to Dave Banking Despite Early Deposit Promise
Filed and got accepted on 2/7, TPG shows funded as of 2/22 and I STILL don't have my deposit in my Dave banking account. Dave literally advertises that customers get refunds up to five days sooner than traditional banks š¤¦š½āāļø It's now 2/27 and nothing. Called Dave twice and they say they don't see any pending deposits. I amended some documentation before filing but everything was accepted by the IRS according to my transcript. At this point I'm wondering if there's something else going on or if Dave just has terrible service. Has anyone else experienced delays with banks that promise "early deposits"?

I had the exact same issue with Dave last year. When TPG shows funded, it means they've sent the ACH transfer to your bank, but it can take exactly 3-5 business days to actually post to your account. Since 2/22 was a Thursday, and we had a weekend in between, today (2/27) would only be the 3rd business day. My deposit took precisely 4 business days last year despite the "early deposit" promise. I'd wait until tomorrow before getting too concerned. If it doesn't arrive by Friday (day 5), then I'd escalate with both TPG and Dave.

The terminology here is important to understand. When TPG shows "funded," it means they've initiated the ACH transfer, not that your bank has received it. I've been through this twice with similar banks. I found https://taxr.ai super helpful last year when I was tracking my refund - it explained all the transcript codes and gave me a clear timeline of what was happening with my money between IRS, TPG, and my bank. It showed me exactly where my refund was in the process and when to expect it in my account based on historical processing patterns.

These tax transcript services are like weathermen - making educated guesses at best. How can a third-party service know more about your refund than the bank that's actually receiving it?

The ACH transfer system follows standardized protocols that are quite predictable. What taxr.ai does is parse the IRS transcript codes and correlate them with the Federal Reserve's ACH processing schedule. It's not guesswork but algorithmic analysis of established banking patterns. When a 846 code appears with a specific date, there's a deterministic timeline for when those funds clear through the Federal Reserve and arrive at the receiving institution.

I was just as skeptical as you until I compared what happened with my Navy Federal account to what happened with my Chase account. The process is actually quite consistent once you understand how the banking system handles these transfers. It's similar to how package tracking works - once it's in the system, the path is pretty predictable.

I'm hesitant to suggest this right away, but if you don't see your deposit by Friday, you might want to contact TPG directly. Their customer service lines are notoriously busy this time of year. I used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) last tax season to get through to them when my refund was stuck in a similar situation. The service had me connected in about 15 minutes when I had previously spent hours on hold. TPG was able to confirm the exact status of my transfer and even provide the trace number I needed to give my bank.

Have you checked if the routing and account numbers on your tax return match your Dave account exactly? I've seen cases where even a single digit being off can cause these delays. Also, did you get any fees taken out of your refund for tax preparation services?

Back in 2022, I had a similar situation with Chime. Turned out my tax preparer had entered my account number correctly but somehow the routing number was off by one digit. The funds were returned to TPG after 5 business days, then they had to reissue the payment. If you used a tax preparer, I'd double-check with them about the account details they submitted.

This is excellent advice. According to IRS Publication 1345 (Authorized e-File Providers), the taxpayer is responsible for verifying their direct deposit information. An incorrect account number can delay your refund by 4-6 weeks as the erroneous transfer must be returned before reissuance. I appreciate how thorough you're being with troubleshooting options.

I had this exact situation with Varo on February 8th last year. TPG showed funded, but nothing in my account for 6 days. I called Varo every day, and they kept saying they didn't see any pending deposits. On February 14th, the money suddenly appeared. What I learned is that these "early deposit" promises are marketing tactics, not guarantees. The banks can only post the money early if they receive the transfer information early, which doesn't always happen with tax refunds. I feel your frustration - I was counting on that money for a car repair and the delay caused me real problems.

Have you checked your IRS transcript to confirm the refund was actually issued? Sometimes TPG shows funded but there might be issues on the IRS side we don't see. ā¢ TPG status doesn't always align with actual IRS actions ā¢ Your transcript will show code 846 with a date if refund was issued ā¢ Some banks hold tax refunds for additional verification ā¢ Dave might have internal flags on tax refunds over certain amounts

OMG I went through this EXACT nightmare with Dave last year! I was checking my account literally every hour for days! š© The money finally showed up after 4 business days even though TPG showed funded. What helped me was calling Dave and specifically asking them to check for pending ACH transfers - sometimes their regular customer service doesn't see them but if you ask for the ACH department they can confirm it's in their system but just not released yet. I was so relieved when it finally posted! Don't worry, if TPG shows funded, your money is definitely coming - it's just moving through the banking system slower than their marketing promises.

Dave's "up to 5 days early" is like saying I'm "up to 6 feet tall" when I'm actually 5'5" š They cover themselves with that "up to" language. I switched from Dave to Current this year after similar issues. One thing to know - if you had tax prep fees deducted from your refund, TPG takes those out before sending the remainder to your bank, which adds another step to the process. Hang in there - it's probably coming tomorrow or Thursday.

I've used Dave for two years now. Last year my refund took 3 business days after TPG showed funded, this year it took 4 business days. I'm starting to think these "early deposit" banks aren't really any faster than traditional banks for tax refunds specifically. Regular paychecks come early, but tax refunds seem to follow a different process. I'm watching this thread because I'm considering switching banks next year if others have better experiences elsewhere.
