Has anyone with 3/17 DDD received their check from Santa Barbara TPG yet?
I filed my taxes on March 5th and got my direct deposit date of 3/17. I checked the Where's My Refund tool and it says my refund was approved and is scheduled to be mailed on 3/17. I bank with USAA but chose to have my fees taken out so it's going through Santa Barbara Tax Products Group first. The TPG website says my refund is "funded" but nothing has hit my account yet. It's been over a week now. Has anyone else with a similar timeline received their check or deposit from TPG yet? Starting to get worried because I really need this money.

I was in the exact same situation with TPG last tax season. When your WMR says the check is scheduled to be mailed, that means the IRS has sent the money to TPG. Once TPG shows "funded" status, they typically take 1-3 business days to process your refund, deduct their fees, and send the remainder to your bank. Since it's been over a week, I'd recommend checking if you entered the correct bank information. You can also call TPG's customer service at 800-779-7526, though wait times can be ridiculous. If USAA has an incoming transaction feature where you can see pending deposits, check that too. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the response. I double checked my banking info and everything seems right. I'll try calling that number tomorrow. Did you eventually get your refund without having to call?

Yeah, mine eventually came through after about 10 days, which was longer than usual. TPG has been really slow this year from what I've heard. Some people on other threads are waiting 2+ weeks.

I had this same issue with my transcript and refund status. Instead of spending hours trying to figure it out myself, I used taxr.ai to analyze my transcript and it immediately showed me what was happening with my refund. It showed exactly why there was a delay and when to expect the money - much more detailed than the TPG or WMR tools. The site explained all the codes and dates that made zero sense to me before. Saved me so much stress! https://taxr.ai

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It analyzes your entire transcript and explains everything in plain English. It shows all processing steps, identifies delays, and gives you a real timeline based on your specific situation. Way more accurate than the generic info from WMR. You can even ask it questions about your specific refund situation.

Just tried taxr.ai and WOW! It showed me exactly why my refund was held up - something about a review code I never would have understood. It even predicted my deposit date to the day! Definitely better than playing detective with transcript codes. Sharing this with everyone in my tax group!

There is a cost but considering the headache it saved me trying to decode all those mysterious transcript codes and dates, it was totally worth it. No more guessing games or waiting on hold with the IRS for hours.

After waiting for over a week with TPG showing "funded" but no money in my account, I found a way to actually talk to someone at the IRS. I used this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that got me through to an actual person at the IRS without waiting for hours. The agent told me exactly what was happening with my refund and why TPG was holding it. Turns out there was a flag on my account they needed to clear. The IRS can actually see more details about your TPG status than what shows on their website.

How does that even work? The IRS never answers their phones ๐คจ

This service basically keeps calling for you and then connects you once they get through. Saved me from having to redial 100 times. The agent I spoke with was actually super helpful and explained everything about my TPG delay.

Totally real. After three weeks of stress and no refund, talking to an actual IRS person solved my problem in 15 minutes. My refund was released the next day. Best decision I made during this whole tax nightmare.

I had a 3/15 date with TPG and just got my deposit yesterday. So it took about 10 days total. Their system is super backed up right now from what I understand. Last year I got my money in 3 days after TPG showed funded, but this year is way slower.

That gives me hope! Did your WMR status change at all during that time?

Nope! WMR just kept saying the same thing about being scheduled to mail on 3/15. Never updated even after I got my money. Their system is useless tbh

I'm in the EXACT same boat ๐ฃโโ๏ธ Mine says funded on TPG since 3/14, DDD was 3/17, and still nothing in my bank account. I called my bank (Navy Federal) and they said they don't see any pending deposits. TPG is holding our money and making interest off it while we wait. This happens every year and it's ridiculous. They should be investigated for this practice.

If it says its being mailed, are you sure you didn't accidentally select to receive a paper check instead of direct deposit? Check your tax return and make sure you selected direct deposit. If you did select paper check, it can take 3-4 weeks to arrive by mail. The TPG "funded" status just means they received the money from the IRS, not necessarily that they've processed it yet.

I'm pretty sure I selected direct deposit. Where on my return can I double check this?

Look at your Form 1040 - there should be a section for refund with your routing and account number. If those fields are blank or say "applied to next year's estimated tax" then you didn't select direct deposit. You can check this on whatever tax software you used.

The whole TPG system is such a scam. They take our refunds, hold them for days or weeks, and make interest on OUR MONEY. Then they take their fees and eventually give us what's left. I've learned my lesson - next year I'm paying the preparation fees upfront and getting my refund directly from the IRS. No more TPG middleman garbage.

This ๐ฏ they're literally making millions in interest by holding everyone's refunds for a few extra days. Criminal imo

Check if you have the right bank info on the TPG portal. My wife put in her old account number by accident, so the money was sent back to TPG. We had to call and update our information, and then they reissued the payment. Took an extra 2 weeks to sort out.

I'm confused why WMR says your refund is being mailed if you selected direct deposit. That sounds like something got messed up in your filing. When you go to the TPG website, does it show your correct bank account information? If WMR says it's being mailed, you might be getting a paper check instead of direct deposit, regardless of what TPG shows.

TPG shows my correct bank info. I'm thinking the WMR tool might just be using confusing language? It says "Your refund has been approved. If your refund is being direct deposited, it may take up to 5 additional days for your bank to make the funds available to you."

Oh! That's actually normal language for direct deposit. I misunderstood your original post. In that case, TPG is just being slow. They don't work weekends, so business days only count M-F. You should see it by the end of this week.

Quick PSA for everyone: if you're using a tax preparer that offers the option to deduct fees from your refund, you're automatically going through TPG or a similar company. This ALWAYS delays your refund by days or weeks. The fastest way to get your refund is to pay filing fees upfront and have the IRS direct deposit straight to your account.

Last year I waited almost 3 weeks after my DDD for TPG to release my refund. When I called, they claimed there was a "systm issue" affecting many accounts. Magically my money appeared the next day after I called and complained. Definitely worth calling them if its been more than 5 business days since your DDD.

My experience with TPG has been frustrating too. When trying to understand all the delays and codes on my transcript, I started using taxr.ai and it was incredibly helpful. It breaks down all the IRS codes and explained exactly where my money was in the process. Made me feel much better knowing what was actually happening versus the vague info from TPG and WMR. Highly recommend checking it out.

It interprets all the codes automatically and tells you what they mean in plain english. It also gives you a timeline based on your specific situation. I had no idea what all those transaction codes and cycle dates meant until I used this.

I just used it and it's actually pretty amazing. It showed me that my refund was delayed because of a random review that had nothing to do with anything I did wrong. Been stressing for weeks thinking I made some huge error!

So many people in this situation right now. I hate how the big tax prep companies don't clearly explain that getting fees taken out of your refund means your money goes through TPG first. They make it sound like it's the more convenient option, but it always leads to delays. Definitely paying my fees upfront next year.

The most ridiculous part of all this is that TPG won't even give a straight answer about timelines. Their website says 1-2 business days after funding, but in reality it's often 5-15 days. They're literally holding our money hostage and there's nothing we can do about it. Pure greed.

totally agree. And they don't even have decent customer service to check on your status. It's like they purposely make it difficult to contact them

I worked for a tax prep company and can confirm they know exactly what they're doing. The agreements with TPG are VERY lucrative for the tax companies. It's basically a hidden fee on top of what you're already paying.

After struggling with this same issue, I finally got through to the IRS using Claimyr (claimyr.com) and found out my refund was actually on hold due to a verification issue that TPG never told me about. Talking directly to an IRS rep solved my problem immediately. They released my refund that day and I got my money 48 hours later. I've never been able to get through to the IRS phone lines before, so this was a game changer.

but why would the IRS know about your TPG status? aren't they separate companies?

The IRS can see more details about your overall refund status, including when they sent the money to TPG and if there were any flags or holds. In my case, there was a verification flag that needed to be cleared before TPG could process it, but TPG never bothered to tell me that.

Saved my sanity last year with a similar situation. After weeks of TPG giving me the runaround, one 15-minute call with an actual IRS person fixed everything. TPG magically processed my refund the next day.

Hey everyone, I work at a bank (not saying which one). When TPG shows "funded" it means they have received your refund from the IRS, but they still need to process it on their end. They batch process payments, usually at the end of the day. If your refund hit TPG on a Friday afternoon, it might not be processed until Monday or Tuesday. Then it takes 1-2 business days for ACH transfers to complete. So realistically, you're looking at 3-5 business days AFTER the funded status appears.

Thanks for explaining this. Do you know if banks process these deposits on weekends or only business days?

Yuki Kobayashi
Most banks only process ACH transfers (which is what TPG uses) on business days. Some banks might show pending deposits on weekends, but they won't actually post to your account until the next business day. Hope that helps!
