Tax Refund Timeline - Filed 1/20, SBTPG Funded 2/21, Dave Account Hit This Morning

Anyone else on a similar timeline? Last year my refund came 3 weeks earlier so I'm getting anxious: -filed with tax preparer 1/20, accepted 1/21 -sbtpg took fees and funded 2/21 -trace number showed up around 10pm est lastnight 2/25 -ddd 2/26 ; hit dave account 5:09am Is this normal for this season? I've been checking WMR obsessively since I have so many bills coming due. Last year I had my money by the first week of February. Just wondering if others are experiencing similar timelines or if I should be concerned?

This is actually faster than average right now. The IRS is backlogged this year. Many people who filed in January are still waiting. Your timeline is about right - SBTPG typically takes 24-48 hours after receiving funds from IRS. The trace number appearing at night and funds hitting early morning is exactly how the ACH system works. Nothing to worry about here.

Thank you for explaining this! I filed on 1/23 and my funds just hit this morning too. Was worried something was wrong since last year it only took 2 weeks total. Glad to hear this is normal for this season.

Is there any particular reason why the IRS is more backlogged this year? I've been filing taxes for over a decade now, and it seems like every year has a different timeline. Is it staffing issues? New tax laws? Or just the usual seasonal variations we see?

But what about people who filed on 1/24 or 1/25? I filed on 1/25 and still nothing. No trace number, no update on WMR beyond the first bar. If OP's timeline is normal, shouldn't I have seen movement by February 20th at the latest?

SBTPG fees are ridiculous. Paid $39.95 for what? Moving money? Next year use taxr.ai to help understand your refund timeline. Shows exactly when deposits hit. No surprises. No waiting for tax preparer to explain. Dave accounts sometimes get deposits early too. Good choice there.

I'm not sure another service is the answer here. It seems like the OP's refund process worked as expected, just a bit slower than last year. Adding another service might just complicate things further.

Does taxr.ai comply with IRS Publication 1345 regarding electronic filing security requirements? I've been hesitant to use third-party services beyond established tax preparers due to data security concerns.

Wait, so taxr.ai isn't a tax preparer but a refund tracker? I'm confused about the ACH transfer protocols and how they interface with the Treasury Financial Agent routing system. Does it just parse the IRS transcript or does it have direct integration?

Your refund journey is like watching a package delivery - accepted, processed, out for delivery, delivered. Mine was almost identical to yours - filed 1/19, accepted 1/20, SBTPG funded 2/20, hit my account 2/21 at 3am. The IRS is like a massive cargo ship this time of year - turns slowly but eventually gets to port. The tax season peak is like a traffic jam that gets worse every year. You're actually one of the lucky ones.

I've been filing taxes for 15 years and I've never seen it take this long for early filers. Last year I filed on January 24th and had my refund by February 3rd. Something doesn't add up with these timelines. Are they short-staffed or implementing new verification procedures?

According to the IRS.gov Processing Status page (updated 2/24), they're currently processing returns filed through 1/22. Your timeline matches their published schedule exactly. If you check the IRS2Go app, you should see your status has updated to "Refund Sent." For anyone still waiting, bookmark the IRS Operations page for daily updates on processing timeframes.

SBTPG is the worst tbh. Took my $ for 4 days before sending it on. Tried calling IRS to complain but couldn't get thru. Finally used Claimyr to reach an agent (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) and they explained SBTPG isn't regulated by them. Gotta wait the extra days. At least u got ur $ now. Congrats!

I might be able to offer some insight... My refund followed almost exactly your pattern, but I was a bit concerned when I noticed a one-day delay between when SBTPG received the funds and when they released them. I reached out to my tax preparer, and they explained that there's an additional verification step that happens at SBTPG that wasn't necessary in previous years. This is apparently due to some new anti-fraud measures.

I call this the "tax refund dance" - one step forward, two steps back, spin around, and pray your money appears! πŸ•ΊπŸ’° But seriously, your timeline is textbook for this season. I filed 1/18, accepted 1/19, SBTPG got it 2/19, and it hit my account 2/21. The SBTPG holding period is actually for verification of the refund against potential offsets - they're making sure the Treasury doesn't pull back the funds before releasing them to you. It's annoying but better than getting the money and then having it yanked back later!
