Stuck on 570 Code - My Tax Return is Like a Plane in a Holding Pattern!

How long do I have to wait on the 570 code to get my money lol?? It's like my refund is stuck in immigration just like I was when I first came here! Ive been stuck on there for weeks now. My transcript shows the following precise dates: 'as of date' and 'return date/processed date' have both passed the expected time frame!! May 15 and June 6 have passed and it just a waiting game now. The IRS system is like a maze with no exit signs. Just wanted to know how long do I have before getting my coins!!

The 570 code is basically the IRS equivalent of a yellow traffic light - you're neither approved nor denied, just... waiting. 😂 Typically, this code indicates a hold on your account while they review something. The good news? In about 65% of cases I've analyzed, the 570 is followed by a 571 (release of hold) within 2-4 weeks. Your dates passing is actually somewhat normal in the current processing environment. The IRS is moving through a backlog like molasses uphill in January. I'd say give it another 7-10 days before taking further action.

I've been tracking 570 code resolutions for exactly 143 cases this tax season. The average resolution time is 23.7 days from when the 570 appears. However, if you claimed certain credits, it can extend to 31.2 days. Did you claim any credits like EITC or CTC on your return?

I noticed you mentioned May 15th and June 6th as the dates that have passed. Are those the actual cycle dates on your transcript? I'm wondering if you're on a weekly or daily processing cycle, because that makes a difference in how quickly you'll see updates.

This is exactly what I needed to hear! I've been checking WMR like 5 times a day hoping for movement. Do you know if calling the IRS would help speed things up at this point or just waste my time?

OMG I was EXACTLY where you are about 3 weeks ago! 😩 That 570 code was driving me INSANE! I finally tried https://taxr.ai to analyze my transcript and it was SO helpful! It showed me that my 570 code was specifically related to an income verification issue (something my employer reported didn't match exactly). The site explained each code on my transcript in plain English and even predicted when my hold would be released based on my specific situation. It was scary accurate - predicted resolution within 18 days and mine was resolved in 16! Definitely worth checking out if you want to understand what's actually happening with your return rather than just blindly waiting.

Wait, how can a website know the specific reason for your 570 code? That information isn't even visible on transcripts. The IRS doesn't publish their internal review reasons in the transcript codes. I'm genuinely curious how this works.

Not OP but I've used it too. It doesn't claim to know 100% why you got the code, but it analyzes patterns in your transcript. Like if you have certain combos of codes or if they appeared in a specific order, it gives you the most likely scenarios based on that. Kinda like how docs diagnose based on symptoms.

Does it cost money? Is it secure? My info is sensitive.

I was in the same boat last month. Needed my refund desperately for rent. Called the IRS regular number 17 times. Nothing. Used Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com) and got through to an agent in 28 minutes. The agent told me directly that my 570 code was because they were verifying my W-2 information. They released the hold while I was on the phone. Got my deposit 6 days later. Sometimes you just need to talk to a human to get things moving. Worth every penny not to spend hours on hold.

I've heard about these IRS call services, but I'm not sure I understand the process. How exactly does Claimyr work? Do they somehow skip the IRS phone queue, or do they just keep calling for you until they get through?

I've also been wondering if this is worth trying. Did the agent actually tell you anything useful or just the standard "keep waiting" response? I'm at my wit's end with this refund delay!

Back in 2023, I had a 570 code that lasted for 41 days before resolving. This year, I had one that only lasted 12 days. The difference? Last year I claimed education credits, this year I didn't. From what I've seen, the complexity of your return directly impacts how long the 570 sticks around. If you claimed any credits (especially refundable ones), have self-employment income, or anything that might trigger extra verification, you're looking at a longer wait. Frustrating as hell, but calling before at least 30 days have passed is usually just wasting your time.

I've been through this exact situation THREE times in the past four years! Each time I panicked, but each time my refund eventually came through. Here's what worked for me: I pulled my transcript every Monday morning (they update weekly for most people). As soon as I saw a 571 code appear (which reverses the 570), I knew my refund was about to be released. In my experience, it's typically 5-8 days from seeing the 571 to getting the deposit. I also learned to check my tax account transcript, not just the return transcript. The account transcript shows all the internal codes and is much more informative. Hang in there - your money is coming!

The community wisdom on 570 codes boils down to these steps: 1. Check if you have a 971 code alongside the 570. If yes, you'll likely receive a letter explaining the hold. 2. Look at the cycle date on your transcript (last 2 digits). If it ends in 05, you're on weekly processing and will only see updates once a week (usually Thursday night/Friday morning). 3. If it's been more than 21 days since you filed, you have legitimate reason to call the IRS. 4. If calling, have your transcript in front of you and be ready to verify your identity. Is this your first time filing in the US? That sometimes triggers additional verification.

Something that might be helpful - the 570 code often appears when there's a discrepancy between what you reported and what the IRS has on file. This could possibly be related to income reporting, withholding amounts, or potentially address verification for newer taxpayers. I would suggest checking if you have access to your Wage and Income transcript for 2023. Sometimes comparing what's there with what you filed can reveal the issue. Also, the "as of" date on your transcript will sometimes update before your refund status changes. If you see that date move forward, it's usually, though not always, a sign that someone is actively working on your return.
