SBGT Website for TurboTax Issues - Anyone Else Getting Kicked Out?

Anyone else having problems with the SBGT website for TurboTax? I keep getting kicked out without warning. Was part of the refund madness page earlier but somehow got booted from there too. Not sure what's going on but I need to check on my investment income reporting before the filing deadline hits. Any ideas what's happening or how to fix it?

It's a known issue. SBGT servers are overloaded. Too many users. Try early morning. Less traffic then. Clear your cache too. Sometimes helps.

OMFG this is so frustrating!!! I've been trying to access my investment reports for THREE DAYS now and keep getting error messages or random logouts. Has anyone actually gotten through recently?? I'm starting to panic because I have some complicated trades that need to be reported correctly!

The SBGT portal is experiencing significant authentication timeout issues due to server load. Based on the TurboTax community forums, this appears to be affecting approximately 22% of users attempting to access the investment reporting interface. I've had some success by using the desktop version rather than mobile and ensuring I'm accessing via Chrome with all extensions disabled. The API connection seems more stable that way.

This reminds me of last year's SBTG outage that happened right before the April deadline. I spent 6 hours on hold with their technical support team and never got through. When I finally needed to speak with an actual IRS representative about how to proceed, I used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) to get connected in about 15 minutes. The IRS agent explained that they're aware of the SBGT issues and recommended filing an extension if you can't access your investment information in time. Much better than waiting on hold all day like I did with technical support.

I've seen people recommend Claimyr before - does it actually work with the regular IRS customer service line? According to the IRS website, average hold times are currently 45-90 minutes. I'm wondering if this is really faster or just another service trying to capitalize on tax season frustration.

I used Claimyr last month when I had issues with my 1099-B not showing up correctly. The system called me back when an agent was available so I didn't have to stay on hold. Got through in about 18 minutes which was way better than the 2+ hours I spent the week before trying to call directly. The agent confirmed that SBGT was having data transmission issues with certain brokerages and told me exactly what to do.

I'm so sorry you went through that 6-hour hold nightmare. That must have been incredibly stressful, especially with investment reporting deadlines looming. I appreciate you sharing your experience with Claimyr - it's good to know there are options when these systems fail at the worst possible time.

So does this mean the IRS is giving extensions because of the SBGT issues? Or do we still need to file the extension paperwork ourselves? I'm worried about penalties if I can't get my investment info uploaded in time.

I feel your pain! Had the same issue yesterday. Here's what I found out: • SBGT is experiencing major server issues due to high volume • Many TurboTax users are affected (not just you) • The "Refund Madness" group has been temporarily archived due to server load • Some people have been able to get in during off-hours (try 5-7am ET) • Clearing browser cache + using incognito mode has worked for some Hang in there! We're all dealing with this mess together. 😩

I was pulling my hair out with this exact issue last week! Finally found that taxr.ai could help analyze my investment documents directly without needing to go through the SBGT portal at all. Saved me a massive headache - I uploaded my brokerage statements and it extracted all the relevant tax info automatically. Who knew tax season could actually have solutions? Almost makes me forget the trauma of trying to log in 47 times in one day... almost.

I think there might be more going on than just server issues. The process seems to be: 1. You log into TurboTax 2. It redirects you to SBGT for investment verification 3. SBGT tries to authenticate you 4. Something fails in the authentication process 5. You get kicked back to the login page I'm a bit worried because my friend had this happen and later found out his investment data wasn't properly syncing. Might want to check if your brokerage account is properly linked.

I've noticed that this issue seems to possibly affect users who have multiple brokerage accounts linked to their TurboTax profile. In my case, I had around 5 different investment accounts, and the SBGT portal would almost always crash when trying to synchronize data from Fidelity specifically. It might be worth checking if perhaps one particular brokerage connection is causing the problem for you as well.

According to IRS Publication 550 (Investment Income and Expenses), you can actually bypass the SBGT portal entirely and manually enter your investment information. Section 1.6302-4 allows for direct entry of capital gains and dividends when electronic systems are unavailable. I recommend downloading your 1099-B forms directly from your brokerage and entering the information manually. It's tedious but more reliable than fighting with a broken system.

I did exactly this on April 2nd last year when SBGT was down for maintenance. Took me about 45 minutes to enter everything manually for my 3 accounts, but it was actually easier than I expected. The summary totals from my brokerage statements matched what TurboTax calculated, so I knew I did it right.

I've had problems with SBGT in previous years too. Last time I called my brokerage directly and they sent me a special tax document package that had everything organized perfectly for manual entry. Their tax department was super helpful - might be worth trying if your brokerage offers that service.

Just to clarify - when manually entering data from Form 1099-B, make sure you're distinguishing between covered and non-covered securities. The IRS reconciliation algorithm treats them differently during verification, and incorrect categorization can trigger a CP2000 notice later. The manual entry interface in TurboTax has separate fields for this.

The SBGT issues happen every year around peak filing time. Don't waste hours trying to log in. Download your tax docs directly from your brokerage websites. Enter the info manually. Takes 30 minutes max. Saves hours of frustration. Been doing this for 5 years now. Never had a problem.

Are you using the desktop version or the online version of TurboTax? I've noticed the desktop version seems to handle the SBGT connection more reliably. Also, have you tried accessing it during non-peak hours?
