SBTG Account Not Found Despite Having DDD of 3/15 - TurboTax Confusion
Anyone else using Santa Barbara Tax Group showing 'account not found'? I filed through TurboTax and have a direct deposit date of 3/15 according to WMR but still haven't received anything. I thought online banks like Chime usually post a few days earlier so I'm getting confused... Also noticed a message on my TT account saying they 'couldn't expedite my refund' so I wasn't charged anything. Don't even remember signing up for that option. Checked the IRS2Go app and SBTG website multiple times with same results. Wondering if this is normal or if something's wrong?

This is a known issue with SBTG right now. Their system is having problems tracking refunds that are actually in process. Your DDD of 3/15 is what matters - that's directly from the IRS, not SBTG. The 'account not found' message doesn't mean your refund isn't coming. As for the TurboTax message, they try to upsell their refund advance service during filing, and if you didn't qualify or it wasn't processed in time, that's the message you get. Don't worry about it - you weren't charged.

Just to add some context - I had this exact issue on March 2nd last year. The SBTG portal showed 'account not found' but my refund still arrived exactly on my DDD. The IRS processing system and SBTG's tracking system don't always sync properly during peak filing season (which we're in right now).

So ur saying even tho SBTG can't find the acct, the $$ could still be on the way? My DDD is 3/17 and I'm seeing the same msg. Getting worried cuz I need this refund asap for car repairs.

Thank you for explaining this! I've been panicking because I couldn't understand why my account wasn't found when WMR shows a DDD. This makes so much more sense now.

Have you checked if your refund is coming via direct deposit or check? I had a similar situation last year where I thought it was direct deposit but they actually mailed a check. Also, did you have any fees taken out of your refund for TurboTax services? When you pay for tax prep from your refund, it goes through SBTG first, they take their cut, then send the rest to you - which can cause these 'account not found' messages and delays.

This is a good point about checking your exact refund method. Here's what you should verify: • Confirm your refund method on your actual tax return (Form 1040) • Check if you opted for fees to be deducted from your refund • Verify the correct bank account info was entered • Make sure you don't have any offsets (past due debts) that could intercept your refund

Doesn't the WMR tool specifically tell you whether it's coming by direct deposit or check? I've always had issues with TurboTax and their 'partners' like SBTG adding extra days to the process. Why do they even need to use these third-party banks instead of just having the IRS deposit directly to our accounts?

Based on the technical aspects of your situation, you're experiencing what's called a 'refund transfer visibility gap.' SBTG creates temporary accounts for processing refunds that sometimes don't appear in their customer-facing system. If you need immediate clarification on your refund status, you might want to try Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) to get through to an IRS agent quickly. I used it last week when my SBTG account showed similar issues, and the agent confirmed my refund was still processing normally despite the error message. Much better than spending hours on hold.

I've been monitoring this issue pretty closely, and it seems to be affecting quite a few TurboTax filers who used the refund transfer option. The SBTG system is likely experiencing some technical difficulties due to the high volume of returns being processed. In most cases I've observed, the refunds still arrive on or shortly after the DDD, regardless of the 'account not found' message. The expedited refund message is probably referring to TurboTax's 'Refund Advance' product, which is essentially a loan against your expected refund that you may have inadvertently been considered for during the filing process.

I'm in the same boat and it feels like being stuck in tax limbo! It's like SBTG and TurboTax are playing hot potato with our money while we're left in the dark. I've been refreshing like crazy for days. Has anyone actually gotten their refund after seeing this message? I'm starting to think my money is like a ghost in their system - everyone talks about it but no one can actually see it.

I completely understand how frustrating this uncertainty is. In my experience working with tax clients, these temporary glitches rarely impact the actual refund delivery. The IRS processing system operates independently from SBTG's tracking portal. Your refund is likely still on track based on your DDD, even if the visibility tools aren't working properly.

According to IRS Publication 1345 (Guide for Authorized IRS e-file Providers), when you choose to have your preparation fees taken from your refund, your money must pass through a third-party bank like SBTG. This creates a temporary account that receives your refund, deducts fees, then forwards the remainder to you. This can add 1-5 business days to your wait time beyond your official DDD. The 'account not found' error is frustrating but surprisingly common - I never realized how complicated this process was until I started researching it!

That's exactly right. It's also worth noting that different banks process these transfers at different speeds. Online banks like Chime sometimes post early, but traditional banks might hold the funds for 1-2 business days after receiving them from SBTG.

This is why I always recommend paying for tax prep upfront instead of from your refund. Yes, it hurts to pay now, but you get your full refund directly from the IRS without these middlemen slowing things down. Saved me a week of waiting last year.
