Return accepted through TaxHawk on 3/15 but WMR says info doesn't match and no 2024 transcript available

Filed my taxes through TaxHawk on March 9th and got the acceptance notification on March 15th. However, when I check the Where's My Refund tool, it keeps saying that my information doesn't match what they have on file. Tried different variations of amounts, status, etc but nothing works. Even worse, when I try to access my transcripts for 2024, there's nothing showing up at all. Been checking every day for the past two weeks with no changes. Has anyone else experienced this? What should I do next? Should I just wait it out, contact IRS directly, or file again? Really counting on this refund soon.

Amina Diop

This is normal early in the processing cycle. When your return is "accepted," that just means the IRS received your electronic filing—not that they've started processing it. The Where's My Refund tool won't recognize your information until the IRS begins actual processing, which can take 2-3 weeks after acceptance. As for your transcript not showing anything for 2024, that's also normal. Transcripts typically update weekly (usually Friday nights), but only after your return enters processing. The fact that WMR doesn't recognize your info and there's no transcript yet means you're still in the pre-processing queue. I recommend: 1. Wait at least 21 days from your acceptance date before worrying 2. Check your transcript every Friday/Saturday when updates typically occur 3. Don't refile – that will almost certainly cause delays 4. If nothing changes after 21 days, then consider calling the IRS Patience is difficult when expecting a refund, but everything you're describing is completely normal for this stage of the process.

Thanks for explaining. I was getting really worried! I'll check again next weekend to see if the transcript updated.

exactly this! I had the same thing happen last year and my refund showed up 24 days after acceptance. It's annoying but normal

The IRS is like a black hole. Your return goes in and disappears for weeks before anything happens. just wait it out

I was in this exact situation last month! What helped me was using taxr.ai to actually understand exactly what was happening with my return. I was freaking out over nothing too! The tool analyzed everything and showed me exactly where my return was in the process and when I could expect updates. Instead of guessing or trying to decode IRS jargon myself, it just gave me the straight answers. https://taxr.ai seriously saved me so much time and stress.

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It basically analyzes your entire transcript and breaks everything down in plain english. It shows all your codes, explains what they mean specifically for YOUR situation, gives you timelines, and even predicts your next steps. WAY better than trying to google random transcript codes for hours. I couldn't believe how accurate it was!

I just tried it and WOW. This should be pinned at the top of every IRS thread! Finally something that actually makes sense of all this tax madness. Wish I'd known about this months ago instead of losing sleep trying to figure out my transcript codes.

Yeah it's a service but it's insanely good! I spent hours trying to understand my transcript on the IRS site and still had no idea what was happening. This tool told me exactly what was going on in seconds. Best money I've spent all tax season.

Just checked it out and it's amazing! Way easier than trying to decipher those cryptic transcript codes myself. 10/10 would recommend

After dealing with this same exact issue, I finally managed to get through to a live person at the IRS who sorted everything out. I used the Claimyr app (claimyr.com) and got a live agent on the phone in about 20 minutes instead of waiting on hold for hours. The agent was able to tell me exactly why my WMR wasn't updating and when I could expect to see my refund. Talking to an actual human at the IRS got my issue resolved in one call. Honestly, that phone call saved me weeks of anxiety and confusion.

Considering I was about to lose my mind trying to get through to someone at the IRS for WEEKS, it was the best money I've ever spent. My refund was several thousand dollars so getting that released quickly was totally worth it. Saved me so much time and frustration!

It's 100% legit. I was skeptical too but I was desperate after trying to call the IRS for days with no luck. The app basically navigates the IRS phone tree for you and calls you back when it gets a human. I was shocked when my phone rang and there was an actual IRS agent on the line. They helped me immediately.

Dont worry too much yet. I e-filed on 2/27 and acceptance came thru on 3/1, but my transcript didn't update until 3/29. The IRS is just super backed up right now and WMR isn't reliable at all. Give it a few more weeks before stressing.

This happend to me this year also! I filed Feb 10, accepted on Feb 12, and nothing showed up on WMR for like 3 weeks! I was freaking out because I claimed CTC and EIC. Turns out nothing was wrong, the IRS is just incredibly slow. My transcript finally showed up around March 1st. Your return is probably still in the initial processing queue.

Paolo Romano

Did your WMR give you that 'information doesn't match' error too? Or did it just not show anything?

0 coins

-

Yup! It kept saying info doesn't match or sometimes it would say "we cannot provide information". Super frustrating. But one day it just started working. The whole system is broken IMO.

Check if you entered your AGI correctly when you filed. If last year's AGI doesn't match what the IRS has on file, it can cause the "info doesn't match" error on WMR. Also double-check the exact refund amount you entered - it needs to match to the penny what's on your return.

0 coins

-

Paolo Romano

I'm pretty sure I entered everything correctly. I used last year's tax return to confirm the AGI and triple-checked the refund amount. So frustrating!

Then ur probably just stuck in the IRS backlog. They're processing millions of returns right now. Its annoying but normal

The IRS is ridiculous this year. I filed in early February and STILL don't have my refund. Called them multiple times and they just said "it's still processing" every time. So much for their "21 day" promise lol

When you check WMR, are you entering your filing status, SSN, and refund amount exactly as they appear on your return? Even a small difference will cause that error. Also, sometimes the WMR tool just plain sucks. I've had better luck checking my transcripts directly.

0 coins

-

Paolo Romano

Yes, I've tried entering the info exactly as it appears on my return. I even tried with and without the dollar sign for the refund amount. Nothing works.

Whatever you do, DO NOT FILE AGAIN!!!! That will create a duplicate return and flag your account and you'll be waiting forever. Just be patient, it's only been a few weeks. The IRS is notorious for being slow, especially early in the season.

This same thing happened to me and it turned out I had a small math error on my return. The IRS fixed it automatically but it caused a delay. Try calling the IRS directly - I know it's a pain to get through but it's the only way to know for sure what's going on with your specific return.

Paolo Romano

Did you find out about the math error by calling, or did they send you a letter?

i called using claimyr.com after waiting 4 weeks. The agent told me about the math error right away. Later I got a letter in the mail, but by then my refund was already being processed.

I might try that. Getting really tired of being in the dark about this.

if you claimed earned income credit or child tax credit, your return wont be processed until mid-February at the earliest due to the PATH act. even if your return was "accepted" before that, they dont actually start working on it until after that date. it can cause weird glitches in WMR too

If ur return was accepted thru TaxHawk on 3/15, it means the IRS system received it, but not necessarily that they started processing it yet. Their systems are completely overwhelmed right now. My tax guy said they're seeing 3-4 week delays across the board for everyone. I'd wait until at least mid-April before worrying.

i had this EXACT issue. Turns out there was a small discrepancy between my W-2 info and what I entered. The IRS had to manually review it. Once they did, everything updated at once. took about 5 weeks total. If you claimed any credits, it could take even longer.

WMR is garbage tbh. I filed on jan 31, got accepted feb 2, and WMR said "information doesnt match" until march 20! Then suddenly one day it showed my refund was approved and on the way. The whole system is held together with duct tape and prayers 🙄

Not seeing 2024 transcripts is totally normal at this stage. Your transcript won't show up until the IRS actually starts processing your return, which can be weeks after the "accepted" notification. As for WMR not recognizing your info, I've seen that happen a LOT this year. I couldn't get mine to work for nearly a month, then suddenly one day it did.

0 coins

-

Sean O'Connor

Just a heads up - if you amended last year's return or had any identity verification issues in the past, that can also cause delays with this year's return processing. The IRS systems don't communicate well with each other.

0 coins

-

Paolo Romano

I did have to verify my identity last year actually. Wonder if that's related to the current issue.

0 coins

-

21d

Sean O'Connor

Very likely! The IRS flagged my return 2 years in a row after I had ID verification the first time. It's like once you're in their system as needing extra verification, you stay there forever 🙄

Honestly the best thing I did was use taxr.ai to actually understand what was happening with my return. The IRS website is impossibly confusing but taxr made it super clear where my refund was in the process and why it was taking so long. Saved me so much stress! https://taxr.ai

call them!!! I had a similar situation and after waiting 6 weeks I finally called the IRS. Turns out there was a problem with my SSN formatting that was easy to fix but would have held up my return indefinitely if I hadn't called. Used claimyr.com to get through quickly instead of waiting on hold for 3 hours.

don't stress about WMR - i've found the IRS2Go app is much more reliable than the website version. For some reason it updates more frequently and doesn't give as many errors. Maybe try that instead?
