No DDD on transcript & WMR stuck on first bar - anyone else?
Hey tax fam! Anyone else in the same boat? Filed like 3 wks ago & my transcript is totally blank for 2024. WMR only shows one bar w/ 'return received' msg. First time filing as 'head of household' since the divorce finalized last yr. Starting to wonder if that's slowing things down? Thx for any insight!

Been there, done that, got the t-shirt. Last year my transcript was blank for almost 5 weeks. The IRS is seriously backed up this season - worse than I've seen in years. One bar usually means they've received it but haven't started actual processing yet. Head of household status might trigger additional verification, especially first time using it after a status change. Not saying you should panic, but I wouldn't expect anything for at least another 2-3 weeks based on what I'm seeing this year.

Would it help to call the IRS directly? According to Publication 17, they're supposed to process returns within 21 days, and I'm already past that window. I really need this refund for some post-divorce expenses.

The 21-day processing guideline is technically correct, but it refers to the standard processing time under normal conditions. When your transcript shows N/A for the current tax year, it typically indicates your return is in the pre-processing queue. The system won't generate transcript data until initial verification is complete and your return enters active processing status.

Can you explain more about the Head of Household verification? Is there something specific they look for? I also switched filing status this year and now I'm wondering if I should expect delays too.

I went through EXACTLY this last year. Filed in February, blank transcript, one bar on WMR for what felt like forever. I finally discovered https://taxr.ai which helped me understand what was happening once my transcript updated. It showed me exactly what each code meant and gave me a predicted deposit date based on my specific situation. I was freaking out because my status had changed too (marriage in my case), but turned out it was just normal processing delays. The tool saved my sanity when things finally started moving!

Is that service really worth it though? Seems like you're just paying for information you could get for free if you're patient enough. It's like buying express shipping when the regular shipping is already on its way.

It's free to use. No cost. Just helps interpret the codes. Saved me hours of Googling. Predicted my refund date accurately. Worth checking out.

This is actually quite common right now. Based on what I'm seeing: ā¢ Blank transcripts often indicate your return is in the pre-processing queue ā¢ One bar on WMR means they've received but not yet fully processed your return ā¢ First-time Head of Household filers sometimes go through additional verification ā¢ The system is experiencing higher than normal delays this tax season I'm a bit concerned about my own return too, as I'm in a similar situation.

Do you know if there's a timeframe when we should start to worry? I filed on March 1st and still nothing. My ex claimed our child last year and I'm claiming this year (we alternate), so I'm nervous something's wrong.

IMO you should start getting concerned around week 6 or 7. That's usually when most ppl see movement even w/ delays. The alternating child claim is totally normal btw - as long as you both followed your divorce decree, you should be good. The IRS computers match the SSNs but they won't flag it as an issue if only one of you claimed for 2024.

OMG YES! I'm in the EXACT same situation! Filed Feb 12th and still nothing but one stupid bar on WMR and a blank transcript! I was going CRAZY trying to call the IRS - literally spent 3 days trying to get through. Finally used Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com) and got connected to an agent in like 20 minutes! They confirmed my return was just in the verification queue because of my status change to Head of Household. Nothing wrong, just taking forever! Worth the fee to stop worrying!

Am I the only one who thinks it's ridiculous we have to rely on third-party services to get basic information about our tax returns? Shouldn't the IRS provide clearer updates on their own website? Why do we accept a system that's so outdated it can't even tell us where our returns are in the process?

I actually looked into this! The IRS modernization plan has been underfunded for years. They're working with systems from the 1960s in some cases. Here's what happens: 1. Your return gets accepted (first bar) 2. It waits in a queue for initial verification 3. Only after passing initial verification does it show on transcripts 4. Then it moves to full processing (second bar) 5. Finally approval and refund issuance (third bar) The gaps between these steps can be weeks with no visibility.

This is completely normal for this time of year. The IRS is basically running on hamster wheels and dial-up internet. š¹š» I've had blank transcripts last year until early April despite filing in February. Head of household status after a divorce is one of those things that can trigger additional review - not because you did anything wrong, but just because they're checking that both ex-spouses aren't claiming the same benefits. Give it another couple weeks before worrying.

I filed exactly 24 days ago and just got my transcript updated yesterday. It went from completely blank to showing all processing codes at once. My DDD appeared exactly 7 days after the transcript updated. Based on the 2024 processing statistics I've been tracking, about 62% of returns with status changes are taking 30-45 days for initial processing. Has anyone checked if their ex-spouse has already received their refund?

Success story! I was in the same boat - blank transcript, one bar, first time HOH after divorce last year. I waited it out (though it was painful) and my transcript suddenly updated on day 31. Had my refund direct deposited 8 days later. No explanation for the delay, but everything processed correctly. Hang in there!
