Filed 2/3 and Transcript Still Blank - No Updates?

Hey tax fam! Filed on 2/3 and it's driving me nuts that I still don't have any updates. WMR just shows received and my transcript is completely blank for 2023. Nada. Zilch. Anyone else in the same boat? Last yr my refund was in my acct by this time! šŸ˜© Starting to worry something's wrong w/ my return.

Same exact situation here. Filed Feb 1st and NOTHING has updated. I've been checking WMR and transcripts daily for 6 weeks straight. Called IRS twice and waited 2+ hours each time just to be told "it's still processing" and to keep waiting. Meanwhile I've got bills piling up that I was counting on this refund for. Beyond frustrated at this point.

Have you checked if there might be specific reasons for the delay? Some possibilities: ā€¢ Did you claim any credits like EIC or CTC? ā€¢ Was there any identity verification required? ā€¢ Did you receive any letters from the IRS?

I remember last year my return was delayed because I had unemployment income. The system seems to flag certain types of returns for additional review. Did you have any unusual income sources this year compared to previous years?

I might be able to help, but I need a bit more information. Did you receive an acceptance confirmation when you filed? And perhaps, did you claim any refundable credits like the Earned Income Credit or Child Tax Credit? These could potentially trigger additional processing time under certain circumstances.

Not OP but I'm in the same situation. My return was accepted on 2/5 with confirmation code. I claimed standard CTC for my two kids. Transcript shows N/A for 2023 and cycle code field is empty. Does this indicate a manual review process?

I was stuck in this exact situation last month! Here's what worked for me: Step 1: I tried calling the regular IRS number every day for a week - impossible to get through Step 2: Found this service called Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) that connects you with an IRS agent Step 3: Got through in about 15 minutes instead of endless redials Step 4: The agent confirmed my return was flagged for a simple verification Such a relief to finally talk to someone who could tell me exactly what was happening! The agent was able to release my return from the hold and I got my deposit 9 days later.

I think what might be happening is the system backlog. My brother-in-law filed around the same time (Feb 5th I believe) and his transcript was blank until just yesterday. It seems that, at least in some cases, there's a sort of batch processing happening where returns sit in a queue for a while, then suddenly get processed all at once. His went from nothing to approved in literally one day.

Have you checked if you're affected by the PATH Act? According to the IRS website (https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/individuals/earned-income-tax-credit/when-to-expect-your-refund-if-you-claimed-the-earned-income-tax-credit-or-additional-child-tax-credit), if you claimed certain credits, the IRS can't issue refunds before mid-February. Did you claim EIC or ACTC on your return?

I checked the IRS operational calendar for 2024, and they specifically mentioned processing delays for returns filed between January 29 and February 10 due to system maintenance and updates. The date range matches OP's filing date perfectly.

This is super helpful! It's like being stuck in traffic - knowing WHY you're not moving makes it so much less stressful. Last year I was in a similar situation and it turned out to be nothing serious at all.

The Return Processing Pipeline typically has multiple verification stages. During peak filing season, returns can remain in Submission Processing status for 3-5 weeks before transitioning to Account Management systems. This delay is normal and doesn't indicate any issues with your return.

I WAS IN THIS EXACT SITUATION!!! Filed 2/4, transcript showed NOTHING for weeks! I was freaking out because I needed that money for a security deposit. Then suddenly last Tuesday everything updated at once and the money was in my account Friday morning! No explanation, no contact from IRS, just suddenly processed. Hang in there!!! šŸ™Œ

Did you do anything to make it move? Call anyone? So stressed.

I've been filing taxes for 12 years and this has happened to me twice. Both times it was because of a simple mismatch that the IRS computer system flagged. First time was because my employer had a different address on my W-2 than what I used on my return. Second time was because I had gotten married and my name change hadn't fully processed in their system. Did you have any life changes this year?

You know what's funny about tax season? Everyone thinks their return is lost when it's delayed, but the IRS actually processes over 96% of returns without any issues. Have you tried checking your account on IRS.gov instead of just WMR? Sometimes that shows different information. And remember - no news is usually good news with the IRS. If there was a serious problem, they'd send you a letter.
