Need help verifying employer names on 2020 IRS tax transcript - any advice?
Hey everyone, I'm having trouble with my 2020 tax wages. I need to verify some employer names on my tax transcript but I'm not sure how to go about it. Has anyone dealt with this before? Any advice on how to get this information from the IRS?

I had a similar issue last year. Have you tried calling the IRS directly? They should be able to help you verify the employer names on your transcript.

•Ugh, I feel ya. The IRS phone system is a nightmare. Have you tried calling right when they open? Sometimes that works better.

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at the IRS. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's the link: https://www.claimyr.com

•Sounds kinda sketchy. Is it legit?

•Yeah, it's totally legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imo.

Have you checked your online IRS account? Sometimes you can access your transcripts there without having to call.

•I tried that, but the employer names were still unclear. I think I need to speak with someone to get it sorted out.

Ugh, the IRS is such a mess. I've been dealing with issues from my 2019 taxes for over a year now. The whole system needs an overhaul.

Here's what you need to do to verify employer names on your 2020 tax transcript: 1. First, try accessing your transcript online through the IRS website. Go to irs.gov and look for the 'Get Transcript' option. 2. If that doesn't work, you'll need to request a transcript by mail using Form 4506-T. Fill it out carefully and make sure to check box 8 for the wage and income transcript. 3. Once you receive the transcript, compare the employer names and EINs with your W-2 forms from 2020. 4. If there are discrepancies, gather any supporting documents (pay stubs, W-2s, etc.) that show the correct information. 5. Contact the IRS and explain the situation. Be prepared to fax or mail the supporting documents. 6. If the error is on the employer's end, you may need to contact them to issue a corrected W-2. Remember, patience is key when dealing with the IRS. Good luck!

Pro tip: if you need to call the IRS, use a VOIP number or Google Voice. That way you can stay on hold forever without tying up your main phone line.

Have you considered hiring a tax professional to help you out? Sometimes it's worth paying someone who knows how to navigate the system.

•I've thought about it, but was hoping to avoid the extra expense. Might have to bite the bullet though if I can't get this sorted soon.

Another option is to try calling the IRS early in the morning (like 7 AM sharp when they open) or during lunch hours when call volume might be lower. I've had better luck getting through during those times. Also, if you have any local IRS Taxpayer Assistance Centers near you, you might be able to schedule an in-person appointment - sometimes that's faster than trying to get through on the phone. Just make sure to bring all your documents with you!
