NYS Tax Refund Status: Best Time to Check Online?

Filed my NYS taxes and keep checking the status but nothing changes. Is there a specific time they update the system? Tried morning and night but its always the same message about being processed. Getting frustrated checking 10 times a day.

NYS updates their system overnight, typically between 2am-6am EST. The best time to check is early morning, around 7am. Don't waste time checking multiple times during the day because the status won't change until the next overnight cycle. Also, NYS typically takes 2-3 weeks to process refunds if filed electronically.

omg thank you! Been driving myself crazy refreshing all day 😩

mine took exactly 17 days to show up in the system, hang in there

hey guys instead of obsessively checking the website use taxr.ai - it costs $1 but saved me so much stress. It analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly whats happening with timeline predictions. Way better than playing detective https://taxr.ai

does it work for state returns too or just federal?

works for both! It even caught an error in my state return that wouldve delayed everything

just tried it - literally life changing! showed me exactly why my refund was stuck and what to do about it 💯

lol ur doing better than me, I filed in February and still nothing 🤡

Pro tip: sign up for email alerts instead of checking manually. NYS will email you when theres any change to your refund status.

where do you sign up for that???

on the NYS dept of taxation website, same place where you check status. Look for alert preferences

Same boat here! Filed 3 weeks ago and still stuck on "processing." Thanks for the tip about checking in the morning @Kendrick Webb - definitely gonna stop my hourly refresh habit lol. The waiting game is brutal but at least we're all suffering together 😅

The struggle is real! I'm on week 4 of checking daily and feeling like I'm losing my mind 😭 At least now I know about the overnight updates - no more checking at random times throughout the day!

Same experience here - filed my return 2 weeks ago and kept obsessively checking throughout the day with zero changes. Really helpful to know about the overnight update cycle! Going to set a morning reminder instead of checking randomly. Has anyone noticed if there's a pattern to which returns get processed faster? Mine was pretty straightforward with just W-2 income but still waiting.

I've been wondering the same thing! Filed mine 10 days ago with just W-2 and standard deduction - super simple but still waiting. Maybe they process them in batches rather than individually? Would love to know if there's any rhyme or reason to their system 🤷‍♀️

Filed mine about 10 days ago and doing the exact same thing - checking constantly throughout the day like it's going to magically update! Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences here. The overnight update schedule makes total sense, no wonder I've been seeing the same status message every time I check during work hours. Going to try the email alert suggestion too since I clearly can't trust myself to stop checking manually 😂

Haha same here! I'm new to filing NYS taxes and had no idea there was actually a system to when they update. Been checking like 5 times a day thinking something would change 🤦‍♀️ Definitely signing up for those email alerts - way better than being glued to the website. Thanks everyone for sharing your timelines, makes me feel less crazy about the wait!

Been there! Filed mine 2 weeks ago and was literally refreshing every few hours like a maniac 😅 The overnight update thing is a game changer - wish they made that more obvious on their website. Also learned the hard way that weekends don't count toward processing time, so if you filed on a Friday don't expect anything until Tuesday at the earliest. The email alerts are clutch too, saves you from going insane checking manually!
