Michigan Refund Status: Anyone Under Review Now Showing Completed?

Michigan tax folks - quick question. Has anyone here who was stuck in the dreaded "under review" status recently moved to "completed" status? If so, have you actually received your refund or gotten any info from the state about when they'll actually release the money? (The waiting game is killing me, haha.) I'm trying to plan my quarterly estimated payments and this delay is throwing a wrench in things. šŸ”§

Mine went from review to completed last Thursday. But has my refund hit my account yet? Nope. Called the MI Treasury yesterday and was told they're processing a backlog of returns that were flagged for review. Apparently they're working through them in batches based on filing date. Have they given a timeframe for when we'll actually see our money? Of course not. They just said "within 14 business days of completion status" which feels like forever when you're waiting, doesn't it?

I'm in exactly the same boat. My return moved to completed exactly 8 days ago, but still no deposit. Did they mention if there's any way to check if your direct deposit information was processed correctly? I'm worried because I changed banks since last year's filing.

0 coins

I'm not entirely sure, but... do you know if this delay applies to everyone or just certain types of returns? I filed as an independent contractor with some business deductions, so I'm wondering if that's why mine got flagged for review in the first place.

0 coins

Anyone know if we're supposed to get a letter or something when it completes? My status changed to completed but tbh I'm not convinced they're actually gonna send the money without more hassle.

0 coins

I believe they might send an email notification, at least they did for me last year. The system seems to be moving a bit slower this year, possibly due to increased verification procedures, but most people should receive their funds within about 7-10 business days after the completed status appears.

I've been monitoring this situation closely. The Michigan Treasury Department has implemented enhanced verification protocols this tax season, particularly for returns claiming certain credits or with Schedule C income. According to their internal processing timeline, returns that transition from "Under Review" to "Completed" status typically have a 5-7 business day disbursement window before the refund is released to your financial institution. Additionally, your banking institution may hold funds for 1-3 business days after receipt, creating what appears to be further delay in availability.

Has anyone actually managed to talk to a real person at Michigan Treasury? I've been calling the number on their website for three days straight and keep getting the automated system that hangs up on me when the queue is full. I'm really worried because my status changed to completed 10 days ago but no deposit yet. My friend told me about this service called Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) that got him through to an actual Michigan Treasury agent in about 30 minutes instead of endless redials. Has anyone tried this? Would it work for state tax departments too or just the IRS?

0 coins

Wait, you can pay a service to call the tax department for you? That sounds too good to be true. Wouldn't they need your personal information to discuss your specific tax situation? I'm not sure I'd be comfortable with that.

0 coins

I've looked into services like this before. How exactly does it work? Does it: • Actually connect you personally to the agent? • Keep your information private? • Cost a lot for the service? Just trying to understand if this is worth trying since I'm in the same situation.

I've used Claimyr for reaching the IRS before, and it works differently than you might think. It's comparable to having someone repeatedly dial for you until they get through, then they connect you directly to the agent. You're the one who talks to the tax representative, not them. Much better than spending your entire day hitting redial like I was doing with the California FTB last year.

Does it work for Michigan specifically though? I'd pay good money right now to actually talk to someone who can tell me what's happening with my refund.

Oh my goodness, I'm SO GLAD I found this thread! I was starting to think I was the only one with this problem! My Michigan return went from "under review" to "completed" 9 days ago, but still no money in my account. I've been meticulously tracking everything in a spreadsheet (yes, I know I'm that person šŸ˜…) and have noticed that even after completion, there seems to be an additional processing delay this year compared to previous years. I'm feeling much better knowing others are experiencing the same timeline!

I appreciate your tracking approach. Have you noticed any pattern between when you filed (exact date) and when your status changed to completed? I filed on February 3rd and mine just changed to completed yesterday, April 8th.

According to Michigan Treasury Regulation 206.30, once a return moves to "completed" status, the refund must be processed within 15 business days unless additional verification is required. The Michigan Department of Treasury has confirmed they're experiencing higher than normal review volumes this year, particularly for returns with business income or claiming certain credits. Their current published backlog is approximately 12-14 business days from completion to disbursement, which is within their statutory requirements but longer than previous years. I've confirmed this directly with a Treasury representative earlier this week.

I was in this exact situation last month. Here's what happened and what worked for me: Step 1: My return was under review for 38 days Step 2: Status changed to completed on March 15th Step 3: No refund after 10 business days Step 4: Called MI Treasury at 517-636-4486 early morning (right when they open at 8:30am) Step 5: After 45 minute wait, spoke with representative who confirmed my refund was approved but stuck in final verification Step 6: Representative manually released the hold Step 7: Received direct deposit exactly 2 business days later The key was getting a representative who could actually see that my refund was approved but hadn't been released yet. Patience is important, but sometimes you need to advocate for yourself.

Last year I had the weirdest experience with Michigan taxes! My return went to completed status but then sat there for almost 3 weeks. I was about to call them when suddenly the money appeared in my account with no warning. What surprised me was that the deposit came through on a Saturday! I didn't even know state governments processed payments on weekends. So maybe check your account even on weekends? The whole Michigan system seems to operate on its own mysterious timeline.

Been through this rodeo before. Last year my Michigan return was under review for nearly 6 weeks, then showed completed for another 2 weeks before I got my money. This year was almost identical - 5 weeks under review, then 11 days from completed status to actual deposit. From what I've gathered talking to others and from my previous experience, the "completed" status just means they've finished reviewing your return, not that they've actually processed the payment. It's frustrating that they don't make this clearer on their website.

Important info. Michigan Treasury is handling reviews differently this year. They're doing batch processing. Returns are grouped by filing date. Each batch moves through the system together. Your completion date doesn't guarantee immediate payment. There's still a payment queue. Current wait is 7-14 days after completion. Direct deposits are processed Monday, Wednesday, Friday. Paper checks only go out Tuesdays and Thursdays. This explains weekend delays too.

It's been 69 days since the MI Treasury rcvd my paper return on March 11. I filed the simplest 1040EZ form with zero income and only receiving part of my property tax as a refund (I'm disabled with no insurance, living off savings). I've checked their website at least 3 times a week for the last 8 weeks, and it always says under review. I finally called and got through to an agent, who stonewalled me and said "it can take up to 16 weeks to process". Unfreakinbelievable... This ONLY happens when you really NEED the money! In the past I have always e-filed and rcvd my refund within 2 weeks. This year, b/c my income was less than my expenses, I was ineligible (per TaxAct) to file electronically. NEVER AGAIN! What a display of total incompetence.

Wow, 69 days is absolutely ridiculous! I'm so sorry you're dealing with this, especially when you're in a situation where you really need that money. The "up to 16 weeks" line they gave you is just salt in the wound. Thank you for sharing about the paper vs. electronic filing difference. That's really valuable information - I had no idea paper returns could cause such extreme delays. The system seems designed to punish people who can't e-file, which is completely unfair given your circumstances. I'm still stuck in "under review" myself, though not quite as long as you've been waiting. It's incredibly frustrating when you're trying to plan finances and the state just leaves you hanging. I hope they process your return soon. The fact that you're dealing with this while managing disability and financial concerns makes their bureaucratic stonewalling even more infuriating. Fingers crossed you see movement on your refund very soon.

This is incredibly helpful information from everyone! I'm in a similar situation - my return moved to "completed" status 6 days ago but no refund yet. Reading through all these experiences, it sounds like the 7-14 day wait after completion is pretty standard this year, which is frustrating but at least now I know what to expect. @Sean Kelly - thanks for sharing the specific phone number and timing strategy. I'm going to try calling at 8:30am sharp tomorrow to see if I can get through to someone who can check if there are any holds on my account. @Barab'bas - 69 days is absolutely unacceptable, especially for such a simple return. The difference in processing times between e-filed and paper returns seems extreme this year. I really hope they get your refund processed soon. One thing I'm curious about - has anyone noticed if certain banks seem to receive Michigan Treasury deposits faster than others? I bank with a smaller credit union and wondering if that might add additional processing time on their end.

I've been tracking Michigan refund processing times for the past three years, and this year is definitely an outlier. Based on what I'm seeing here and from other forums, the "completed" status seems to be more of a milestone checkpoint rather than an actual completion indicator. For those still waiting, here's what I've observed: - E-filed returns: 7-12 business days from "completed" to deposit - Paper returns: 14-21 business days (sometimes longer, as @Barab'bas unfortunately experienced) - Returns with business income/Schedule C: Often an additional 3-5 days @Isaiah Thompson - regarding bank processing, I haven't noticed significant differences between major banks, but credit unions can sometimes take 1-2 extra days to post ACH deposits. My local credit union always posts state refunds on the next business day after receiving them, while my friend's big bank posts them same-day. The batch processing system @GalaxyGazer mentioned explains a lot. If you're not in the current batch being processed, you're basically waiting for the next cycle. It's inefficient but seems to be their current method for managing the review backlog. Hang in there everyone - based on the patterns I'm seeing, most people do eventually get their refunds, just with more waiting than usual this year.

This is really helpful analysis, thank you for tracking this! Your data aligns with what I've been experiencing. I'm currently on day 8 since my status changed to "completed" with an e-filed return, so based on your observations I should hopefully see something in the next few days. The batch processing explanation makes so much sense - it's like we're all waiting in different queues without knowing which one we're in. It's frustrating from a taxpayer perspective, but I can see how they might have implemented this system to manage their review workload more efficiently. @Luca Esposito - do you know if there s'any way to tell which batch "your" return might be in, or is it just a waiting game? Also, have you noticed any correlation between filing date and batch processing order? Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences here. It s'making this whole waiting process much less stressful knowing others are going through the same thing and that there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel.

Just wanted to add my experience to this helpful thread! My Michigan return went from "under review" to "completed" exactly 10 days ago, and I finally received my direct deposit this morning. So for those counting days, that puts me right in the middle of the 7-14 day range that several people have mentioned. What's interesting is that I received the deposit on a Tuesday, which aligns with @GalaxyGazer's observation about Michigan processing direct deposits on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Mine must have been processed yesterday (Monday) and hit my account today. I did try calling the Treasury office twice last week using @Sean Kelly's strategy of calling right at 8:30am, but couldn't get through either time. Fortunately I didn't need to since the refund came through on its own timeline. For anyone still waiting - hang in there! Based on all the experiences shared here, it really does seem like the money eventually comes through, just with more patience required than in previous years. The "completed" status appears to be legitimate, just with that additional 1-2 week processing buffer that wasn't as common before. Thanks to everyone for sharing their timelines and experiences. This community knowledge has been way more helpful than anything on the official Michigan Treasury website!

That's such great news and really encouraging to hear! Thanks for coming back to update us with your actual timeline - getting your deposit on day 10 after "completed" status is really helpful data. It's reassuring to see the system is actually working, just slower than we'd all prefer. The Monday processing/Tuesday deposit pattern you mentioned is really interesting too. I'm going to keep that in mind when checking my account - sounds like Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays might be the key days to watch for deposits based on their processing schedule. I completely agree that this thread has been infinitely more helpful than the official Michigan Treasury website. Their status updates are so vague, and there's no real information about what to expect for timing after you hit "completed" status. Having real experiences from actual people going through this makes such a difference for managing expectations and stress levels. Congrats on finally getting your refund! Here's hoping the rest of us still waiting see similar movement in the next few days. šŸ¤ž

This thread has been incredibly helpful! I'm currently on day 5 since my Michigan return moved to "completed" status, and reading everyone's experiences has really helped set realistic expectations. Based on what I'm seeing here, it sounds like the 7-14 day window after "completed" is pretty standard this year, which is frustrating but at least predictable. I'm particularly interested in the batch processing system that @GalaxyGazer mentioned - it explains why some people seem to get their refunds quickly while others wait the full two weeks even with similar filing circumstances. @QuantumQuasar - congratulations on getting your deposit! Your 10-day timeline gives me hope that I should see movement soon. I'm also going to keep an eye out on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays based on the processing schedule pattern people have identified. One question for the group: has anyone noticed if the Michigan Treasury website shows any additional status updates between "completed" and actually receiving the deposit? Or does it just stay at "completed" until the money hits your account? I've been checking obsessively and wondering if there might be another status I should watch for. Thanks again to everyone sharing their experiences - this community knowledge is so much more valuable than the vague information on the official site!

Welcome to the waiting club! Day 5 isn't too bad - you're right in that sweet spot where most people start seeing movement soon based on what everyone's shared here. To answer your question about status updates: unfortunately, the Michigan Treasury website pretty much just stays at "completed" until your refund actually processes. There's no intermediate status like "payment scheduled" or "funds disbursed" that would be helpful. It's basically "completed" and then suddenly money appears in your account one day, which is why everyone's been obsessively checking their bank accounts instead of the Treasury site. The batch processing explanation really does make sense of the seemingly random timing. It sounds like once you hit "completed," you're basically in a queue waiting for your batch's turn to be processed for payment, which explains why some people get lucky and hit their refund quickly while others wait closer to that 14-day mark. Keep us posted on when yours comes through! It's really helpful when people circle back with their actual timelines like @QuantumQuasar did. Fingers crossed you're one of the lucky ones who gets processed in the next batch cycle. šŸ¤ž

I'm in a very similar situation and this thread has been a lifesaver! My Michigan return moved to "completed" status 8 days ago, and I was starting to panic thinking something went wrong. Reading everyone's experiences here has really helped me understand that this extended wait after "completed" is just the new normal this year. The batch processing system explanation makes so much sense - it's like we're all in different invisible queues waiting for our turn. I filed electronically in early February with some freelance income (Schedule C), so based on @Luca Esposito's observations, I might be looking at the longer end of that 7-12 day window plus the additional 3-5 days for business income. @Sean Kelly - I'm definitely going to try your 8:30am calling strategy if I don't see movement by early next week. It's good to know there might be representatives who can actually see if there are any holds or issues. @Barab'bas - I'm so sorry you're dealing with such an extreme delay. 69 days is absolutely unacceptable, especially for such a straightforward return. The paper filing vs e-filing difference this year seems to be creating a two-tiered system that really disadvantages people who can't e-file for various reasons. Thanks to everyone for sharing your timelines and strategies. This community knowledge is so much better than anything on the official Michigan Treasury site!

Hey Maya! I'm right there with you - day 8 feels like forever when you're waiting for money you're counting on. It's so reassuring to see others in similar timelines though. The Schedule C factor you mentioned is really interesting - I hadn't considered that business income might add extra processing time, but it makes sense they'd want to verify those deductions more carefully. I'm also planning to try the early morning calling strategy if needed, though honestly after reading @QuantumQuasar's success story of getting their deposit on day 10, I'm feeling more optimistic that the system is actually working, just slowly. The batch processing explanation has been a game-changer for my stress levels - at least now I know I'm in a queue rather than wondering if my return got lost somewhere in the system. @Barab'bas's situation with the paper filing delays is absolutely heartbreaking. It really highlights how the system seems designed to work best for people who can e-file, which creates unfair disadvantages for folks who can't for legitimate reasons. Fingers crossed we both see movement soon! Based on all the timelines shared here, it feels like we should be getting close to that magical deposit day. Will definitely update if I see any movement - this thread has been such a lifeline during the waiting game.

This is exactly the kind of thread I needed to find! I'm currently on day 6 since my Michigan return moved to "completed" status, and I was starting to wonder if something had gone wrong with my direct deposit information or if there was an issue with my return. Reading through everyone's experiences here has been so helpful - it's clear that this 7-14 day wait after "completed" status is just the reality this year, even though it's frustrating. The batch processing explanation makes total sense and explains why the timing seems so random from a taxpayer perspective. @QuantumQuasar - thanks for coming back to share your actual timeline! Getting your deposit on day 10 gives me hope that I should see movement soon. I'll definitely be watching for deposits on Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday based on the processing patterns people have identified. @Barab'bas - I'm so sorry about your 69-day wait. That's completely unacceptable, especially when you're dealing with financial hardship. The disparity between e-filing and paper filing processing times this year seems extreme. For everyone still waiting - this community knowledge has been infinitely more valuable than anything on the Michigan Treasury website. It's reassuring to know we're all in the same boat and that the refunds do eventually come through, just with more patience required than usual this year. I'll make sure to update when mine processes to add another data point to our collective timeline tracking!

Welcome to the waiting club! I'm actually a newcomer to this whole Michigan tax situation myself, but wow, reading through everyone's experiences here has been incredibly eye-opening. I had no idea that state tax processing could be this complex and unpredictable. As someone who's new to this community, I'm really impressed by how supportive everyone is being with sharing their timelines and strategies. @QuantumQuasar's success story on day 10 is definitely encouraging, and the pattern recognition that @Luca Esposito has been doing is fascinating - it s'like crowdsourced data analysis of the Michigan Treasury system! The batch processing explanation makes so much sense from a systems perspective, even though it s'frustrating as taxpayers. It sounds like Michigan Treasury is basically running their refund processing like a manufacturing assembly line rather than individual case processing. @Barab bas'- I m'so sorry about your situation. 69 days for such a simple return seems completely unreasonable, especially when you re'in a tough financial spot. The paper vs e-filing disparity this year sounds particularly harsh. Thanks to everyone for creating such a helpful resource here. As a newcomer, this thread has taught me more about Michigan tax processing than hours of trying to navigate their official website. Fingers crossed for everyone still waiting!

New to Michigan taxes this year and honestly had no idea what I was getting into! I moved here from Ohio where state refunds were pretty straightforward and quick. My Michigan return has been sitting at "completed" status for 4 days now, and I was starting to panic thinking I did something wrong with my filing. This thread has been absolutely invaluable - thank you to everyone sharing your experiences and timelines! The batch processing explanation makes so much sense, even though it's frustrating to be stuck in an invisible queue. It sounds like 7-14 days after "completed" status is the new reality this year. @QuantumQuasar - congrats on getting your deposit on day 10! That gives me hope I should see movement soon. @Luca Esposito - your tracking and analysis has been incredibly helpful for setting expectations. And @Barab'bas - I'm so sorry about your 69-day ordeal with the paper filing. That's completely unacceptable. I'll definitely update here when my refund processes to add another data point. This community knowledge is so much better than trying to decode the vague status messages on the official Michigan Treasury website! Fingers crossed for everyone still waiting. šŸ¤ž
