Is Everyone Verifying Both Online and by Phone for 2024 Taxes?

Hey guys I have a question is everyone verifying online and by phone ? For 2024 taxes Just curious because when my husband was deployed last year, we only had to verify online, but this year I'm hearing different things. Not trying to share too much of our personal situation, but wondering what the standard procedure is for military families this time around.

The verification requirements for 2024 taxes depend on several factors including your filing status, claimed credits, and whether there were any discrepancies in your previous filings. What specifically prompted you to ask about dual verification methods? Are you receiving notices requesting phone verification in addition to online identity verification?

Have you received any specific instructions from the IRS to verify both ways? It's kind of like having both a key and a passcode for extra security - some people need both, others just one. I was initially confused too until I realized they were only asking me to verify because of some new credits I claimed.

I just filed exactly 12 days ago and only had to verify online. I was confused by all the verification codes and transcript stuff so I used taxr.ai to help me understand what was happening with my return. It analyzed my transcript and explained that my return was just going through normal processing - no additional verification needed. It's impressive how clearly it explained everything that was happening with my return!

Be careful about verification requirements this year! ā€¢ I assumed I only needed online verification like previous years ā€¢ Missed a letter requesting phone verification too ā€¢ My refund was delayed by exactly 8 weeks ā€¢ Had to verify identity through both channels eventually Don't make my mistake - check if you need both types of verification, especially if you're claiming certain credits or have changed filing status.

When I needed to verify by phone, it was a nightmare trying to reach an actual IRS agent. Here's what worked for me: Step 1: I used Claimyr.com to get through to an IRS agent quickly Step 2: They connected me in about 20 minutes instead of hours of redials Step 3: The agent verified my identity right away Step 4: My refund was processed within a week after verification Saved me so much time and frustration compared to repeatedly calling the regular IRS number.

I'm not sure about using third-party services to contact the IRS. How do we know they're secure? According to IRS Publication 5027, taxpayers should be wary of sharing personal information with non-IRS entities. Might be safer to just keep trying the official channels.

Used Claimyr last month. Simple process. No personal info required. They just connect the call. Got through in 15 minutes. Worth it for me. Regular number had me on hold for hours before disconnecting.

So, um, does Claimyr actually work for the specific verification phone lines too? Or just the general IRS number? I might need this soon, I think...

For those using Priority Callback Services like Claimyr, are there specific IRS telephone queues they can access more efficiently than others? I'm specifically wondering about the Taxpayer Protection Program verification line versus the general customer service line.

Has anyone received the specific CP01E notice requiring dual verification? According to Internal Revenue Manual 25.25.6.5, the Taxpayer Protection Program may require both online and telephone verification when certain risk factors are present. Is this what you're experiencing?

This is exactly what I was looking for. My situation is similar to what you described - received CP01E and wasn't sure if I needed both verification methods. Compared to last year when I only needed online verification, this dual approach is definitely different.

I went through this exact thing! The IRS website was completely unhelpful about whether I needed both verifications. Ended up spending hours on TaxTwitter and r/tax before finding someone who confirmed both were required. šŸ˜© Check out the IRS Identity Verification Service page - it has a flowchart that helped me figure it out: https://www.irs.gov/identity-theft-fraud-scams/identity-verification

The IRS has actually increased verification requirements for 2024 due to rising identity theft cases. Military families sometimes get flagged for additional verification when there's a change in duty station or deployment status between tax years. The good news? Once you complete both verifications, you're usually good to go for a few years unless your circumstances change again. (Unless the IRS decides to make things more complicated... which they do seem to enjoy doing! šŸ™ƒ

I'm a tax preparer and had a client in a similar military family situation last week. Their return was flagged because they filed from a different state than last year due to a new duty station. Have you moved between filing seasons? Did you claim different credits this year? Were there any significant changes in income? These factors often trigger the dual verification requirement.

Instead of verifying by phone, request an in-person appointment at your local Taxpayer Assistance Center. Use the IRS TAC appointment system online to schedule. This verification method is often faster than phone verification, which can take weeks for processing. The in-person verification is immediately recorded in the IRS system, potentially expediting your refund by 7-10 days compared to telephone verification.

Be extremely careful if you're getting messages about verification! My brother-in-law got a text claiming to be IRS verification that was actually a scam. Real IRS verification is only through official letters, their secure online portal, or by calling their official numbers. They never initiate contact through text or email for verification purposes. The scammers are getting really sophisticated with military families this year.
