Identity Verification: In-person vs waiting for IRS letter - which is faster?
Filed my return last month and got a message saying I need to verify my identity. Don't want to wait around for a letter to come in the mail if I can just go to an IRS office. Anyone know if in-person verification is allowed? Really need this refund asap and trying to figure out the fastest way to get this done.

You actually have both options available. You can either wait for the 5071C letter and verify online at ID.me, or schedule an appointment at your local TAC office. If you choose the in-person route, make sure to bring 2 forms of ID (drivers license and social security card work best) plus a copy of your tax return. The appointment wait times can be 2-3 weeks though, so online verification through ID.me might actually be faster once you get the letter.
