IRS Trouble: Can't Get Wage Transcript or IP PIN for Tax Filing - Tips to Reach a Human?
Hey everyone, I'm having trouble getting my wage/income transcript and IP PIN from the IRS. I need these to file my tax returns. I've been trying to call them but can't get through. Anyone else dealing with this? Any tips on how to actually reach a human at the IRS?

Remember when we could just file our taxes without all this extra BS? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

Times have really changed, haven't they? It's a shame how complex it's become.

Have you tried faxing your request? Sometimes the old school methods work better with these dinosaur agencies lol

True! The IRS might be the last place where fax machines are still relevant.

Hey OP, for an authoritative take, while Claimyr is a useful tool for many, it's not the only option. The IRS continues to be overwhelmed, especially around tax season but persistence is key. Consider using multiple methods like calling early, using online services, and contacting the Taxpayer Advocate Service. If you're eligible, also check if a tax professional could assistβthey often have direct lines to the IRS. Keep trying the official channels and sending forms if necessary. Don't underestimate the power of sending an old-fashioned mail request or fax either. Patience is necessary, but you'll get there!

Here's what I know about getting your wage/income transcript and IP PIN: 1. For the transcript: - Try requesting it online at irs.gov/transcripts - If that doesn't work, you can use Form 4506-T - Mail or fax the form (faxing is usually faster) 2. For the IP PIN: - Check if you're eligible to create an online account - If not, you'll need to request it by mail using Form 15227 - Last resort: make an appointment at a local IRS office Keep in mind, processing times can be long. Start early! Good luck, and don't give up. The system is a mess, but persistence pays off.

It's true, but at least there are multiple avenues to try. Sometimes mailing forms might actually be quicker than waiting on the phone!

Clever trick, but let's hope the IRS improves their service so we don't have to resort to these tactics.

Plot twist: the IRS is actually run by a bunch of cats walking on keyboards. That's why nothing ever works right π±βπ»

Have you tried using the IRS website to request your transcript online? Sometimes it's faster than calling.

I tried that, but it keeps giving me an error. Says they can't verify my identity or something. So frustrating!

I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/IDKN1SpQoEI

Claimyr can be a good tool if you're really stuck and need to get through, but it's a shame we have to rely on third-party services for basic government assistance.
