IRS Refund Nightmare: Can't Get Through on Phone. Any Success Stories or Tips?
Hey everyone, I'm having trouble getting a refund from the IRS. I've been trying to call them for weeks but can't get through. Has anyone had any luck recently? Any tips on how to actually speak with a human there? I'm at my wits' end!

Ugh, I feel your pain! š« I've been in the same boat for months. It's like they don't want us to get our money back. Have you tried calling right when they open? I heard that might help, but no luck for me so far.

Calling when they open is useless. I've tried that like 20 times already. Always get the 'high call volume' message. Its ridiculous!

Same here. I even tried calling 5 minutes before they officially open. No dice. š²

Thanks for the suggestions, but yeah, I've tried all the usual tricks. Still no luck getting through. š

I actually found a way to get someone on the phone! I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video explaining it: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

Sounds too good to be true. Are you sure it's legit? Has anyone else tried this?

$20 just to talk to someone? That's highway robbery! š¤¬ The IRS should be ashamed.

I get the skepticism, but it really did work for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Sometimes you gotta spend money to save money, ya know?

Pro tip: Use the Taxpayer Advocate Service. They can often help when you're getting nowhere with the regular IRS channels. It's free and they're actually helpful!

This! š The TAS helped me resolve a 2-year-old issue in just a few weeks. Definitely worth a try.

Have you tried sending a certified letter? Sometimes old school methods work best with these dinosaurs š¦

Okay, listen up folks. I've been dealing with IRS refund issues for years (tax professional here), and here's what you need to know: ā¢ First, check your transcript online. It might give you more info than 'Where's My Refund' ā¢ If you filed by paper, you're in for a long wait. They're seriously backlogged. ā¢ For phone calls, try the Taxpayer Advocate Service line instead of the main IRS number ā¢ If it's been more than 6 weeks since you e-filed, or 8 weeks since you paper filed, you can request a trace on your refund ā¢ Document EVERYTHING. Every call, every letter, every interaction. ā¢ If all else fails, contact your local Congressperson's office. They can often cut through red tape. Remember, patience is key. The IRS is understaffed and overworked. It sucks, but hang in there!

Yep, it really can! Their office has liaisons specifically for dealing with federal agencies. They can often get answers when we mere mortals can't.

Has anyone tried faxing? I know it sounds crazy, but I heard they actually respond to faxes faster than mail or phone calls.

What year is it, 1995? š But for real, if it works, I'm down to try. Anyone know the fax number?
