IRS Transcript Shows No Return Filed but Received State Refund - What's Going On?
My transcript is showing no return filed for 2023 but I already got my state refund back. How is this possible? The Where's My Refund tool lets me check the status with my return amount but transcript says nothing filed. Super confused about what's happening here.

State and federal returns are completely separate systems. Your state processing your return has zero connection to the IRS system. It's actually pretty common for state returns to process faster. Give it some time - it can take 2-3 weeks for a return to show up on federal transcripts after filing.
