IRS Transaction Code 971 on 2024 Refund - What Does It Mean?
Hey everyone, I'm trying to get my refund for 2024 and I'm hitting a wall. I got this transaction code 971 from the IRS. Anyone know what that means? I'm not sure if I should be worried or if this is just part of the process. Any help would be appreciated!

Transaction code 971 usually means the IRS sent you a notice or letter. Have you checked your mail lately? They might have sent you something important about your refund.

β’Make sure to check your spam folder too if you opted for electronic communications. Sometimes important stuff ends up there π€¦ββοΈ

I had the same issue last year. It turned out they needed additional information from me. Don't panic, just wait for the letter and follow their instructions. It'll probably delay your refund a bit tho π

Hey, I found a way to actually get someone on the phone at the IRS. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

β’I get the skepticism, but it seriously saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo. Plus, I got my issue resolved in one call.

Here's what I know about transaction code 971: β’ It's a general code for "Notice Issued" β’ Could be about various things: additional info needed, explaining a change to your return, or even good news about your refund β’ Doesn't necessarily mean there's a problem β’ Usually followed by another transaction code that gives more specifics Best thing to do is wait for the notice and read it carefully. If you don't get anything in a couple weeks, call the IRS (use the trick mentioned above if you're having trouble getting through). Don't stress too much, OP. This happens to a lot of people and it's usually not a big deal. Keep us posted!

Have you checked your transcript online? Sometimes you can see more info there before you get the actual notice in the mail.

β’I didn't even know that was a thing! How do I access my transcript?

β’Go to the IRS website and look for 'Get Transcript Online'. You'll need to create an account if you haven't already. It shows a lot of useful info!
