IRS Transaction Code 570: No updates since identity verification in April. Help!
Hey everyone, I'm dealing with a transaction code 570 on my tax return and it's been stuck like this for weeks. I verified my identity back in early April, but there's been zero movement since then. No updates, no nothing. Anyone else in the same boat or have any advice on what to do next?

Ugh, I feel your pain. I had the same issue last year and it was a nightmare. Have you tried calling the IRS directly? Sometimes that's the only way to get any real answers.

β’I've been trying to call them for days but can never get through. It's so frustrating!

β’Pro tip: call right when they open. I got through after only 30 minutes on hold that way.

I actually found a way to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/UiAegRQ2Is8

β’Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit?

β’Yeah, it's totally legit. I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imo.

β’How long did you have to wait before they connected you?

β’It took about 2 hours, but I didn't have to sit there listening to hold music. They just called me when an agent was on the line.

Transaction code 570 usually means there's an issue they need to review manually. Could be anything from a math error to missing information. Unfortunately, all you can really do is wait it out or try to get someone on the phone for more details.

Have you checked your transcript online? Sometimes there are updates there that don't show up on Where's My Refund.

β’Yeah, I've been checking it obsessively. No changes there either π

OK, let me break this down for you: 1. Transaction code 570 means the IRS has frozen your account temporarily. This isn't necessarily bad, but it does mean they're reviewing something. 2. Since you verified your identity in April, that's probably not the issue. It could be: - A discrepancy between your reported income and what the IRS has on file - A math error on your return - Missing information or forms - Suspected identity theft (even if you verified) 3. What you can do: - Keep checking your transcript weekly for updates - Try to call the IRS (I know, easier said than done) - If you used a tax preparer, contact them to see if they received any notices - Be patient (I know it sucks, but sometimes that's all you can do) 4. If it's been more than 21 days since you filed (which it sounds like it has), you can try contacting the Taxpayer Advocate Service. They might be able to help if you're experiencing financial hardship due to the delay. Hang in there! The IRS is still dealing with backlogs, so unfortunately, this isn't uncommon.

β’Quick question - how do you contact the Taxpayer Advocate Service? Is there a specific number or form?

β’You can find your local Taxpayer Advocate Service office here: https://www.irs.gov/advocate/local-taxpayer-advocate. They have a form (Form 911) you can fill out, or you can call them directly.

I had a similar issue last year. Turned out there was a discrepancy with my reported income from a side gig. Double-check all your income sources, especially if you had any 1099 work.

Have you considered reaching out to your local congressperson's office? Sometimes they can help expedite things with the IRS.

β’This! My sister did this and got her issue resolved in like 2 weeks. Definitely worth a shot.

β’I hadn't even thought of that. How exactly do you go about contacting them for something like this?

β’Just google your congressperson and look for a 'Help with a Federal Agency' form on their website. Fill it out explaining your situation and they'll get back to you.

I'm going through the exact same thing right now! Filed in February, got the 570 code after identity verification in March, and it's been radio silence ever since. The waiting is absolutely killing me because I really need that refund. I've been checking my transcript obsessively but nothing changes. It's so frustrating that they can just hold our money hostage like this with zero communication. Thanks for posting this - at least I know I'm not alone in this nightmare!
