IRS Refund Sent to Wrong Account - How to Fix Incorrect Routing Number?
Hey everyone, I'm in a bit of a pickle. I just found out that my tax refund was issued on February 13th, but the routing number I provided was incorrect. Now I'm not sure how to get my refund. Has anyone dealt with this before? What's the best way to contact the IRS and fix this issue? Any advice would be really appreciated!

Ugh, that sucks! I've been there before. Here's what you need to do: 1. Call the IRS directly at 1-800-829-1040 2. Have your Social Security Number ready 3. Explain the situation calmly 4. Ask them how to update your routing number 5. Follow their instructions carefully Be prepared to wait on hold for a while. The IRS is notoriously slow to answer calls. Good luck!

•This is solid advice. I had to do something similar last year. Just be patient and polite, and they'll help you out.

•Yeah, the wait times can be brutal. But it's worth it to get your refund!

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

Have you tried checking the 'Where's My Refund' tool on the IRS website? Sometimes they have updates there about issues with refunds.

This happened to my cousin last year. It took a while, but he eventually got his refund. Just keep at it and don't give up!

•If I remember right, it took about 6-8 weeks from when he first contacted them. The IRS moves at a snails pace 🐌

Pro tip: if you can't get through on the main IRS line, try calling your local Taxpayer Advocate Service. They can sometimes help with these issues and are easier to reach.

Whatever you do, DON'T fall for any scams promising to get your refund faster. Stick to official IRS channels only!
