IRS Refund Delays: 2+ Years Waiting for State & Federal Tax Returns - What to Do?

Has anyone else been waiting forever for their tax refunds? I filed my 2022 state return and 2023 federal return, but haven't received either of them yet. It's been over 2 years for the state refund! I'm starting to wonder if I missed something or if they sent me a letter that I didn't get. Anyone else in the same boat or have any advice on what to do? I'm getting pretty frustrated with the whole situation.

I found a way to solve delayed tax refund issues, watch this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4sfEzf-WwkM

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Jc9x-gysK0

Sounds too good to be true. Does it really work? $20 seems steep just to talk to someone.

It really does work! I was skeptical too, but I was desperate. Saved me hours of hold time.

Idk man, seems kinda sketchy. Has anyone else tried this?

I've tried Claimyr, and it worked for me too. But I agree, it would be nice if there were more budget-friendly options for those of us just trying to get answers.

Has anyone tried sacrificing a goat to the IRS gods? Asking for a friend... 🐐

Instructions unclear. Sacrificed my W-2 instead. Now what? 😅

At this point, I'm willing to try anything! Where do I get a goat? 😂

In all seriousness, sometimes it feels like it might take a miracle to get through to the IRS.

Have you considered reaching out to your local congressperson's office? They often have liaisons who can help with IRS issues. It's worth a shot!

Mikayla Davison

I didn't even know that was an option. Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely look into it.

This! 👆 My friend did this and got her refund within weeks after waiting for months.

I always thought contacting a congressperson was a last resort. Interesting to hear it actually works!

Two years?! That's insane. You should definitely follow up on that. Have you checked the 'Where's My Refund' tool on the IRS website? Sometimes that can give you more info.

0 coins

-

Mikayla Davison

Yeah, I've checked that tool like a million times. It just says 'still processing' every time. So frustrating!

0 coins

-

7M

Lilly Curtis

Same here. That tool is useless. It's been saying 'still processing' for months now. 🤦‍♂️

I heard that sometimes the tool updates at midnight. Maybe try checking it then?

lol welcome to the club 🤡 been waiting on my refund since the stone age. The IRS is a joke!

Fr tho 😂 I swear they're using carrier pigeons to process our returns

Mikayla Davison

Seriously! At this point, I'm wondering if they lost my return in a time warp or something 😅

Rachel Tao

It really does feel archaic. Maybe they could at least send us a nice letter while we wait?

0 coins

-

7M

Nia Watson

Guys, I think I figured it out. The real reason for the delay is that the IRS is using our refunds to fund the construction of a Death Star. It's the only logical explanation. 🌟💀

0 coins

-

Alberto Souchard

That's ridiculous. Everyone knows they're using it to hide the fact that the earth is flat. Wake up, sheeple! 🐑

0 coins

-

7M

Mikayla Davison

If that's true, do you think they'll let us take a ride on it once it's built? Might be worth the wait then 😂

Or maybe they're finally building that wall around Area 51. Priorities, right?

Y'all ever think about how wild it is that we have to do all this complicated math just to figure out if we paid the right amount of taxes? And then wait forever to get our own money back? The system is broken, man.

Preach! 🙌 It's like they're purposely making it complicated

For real. I feel like I need a PhD just to file my taxes correctly.

It's definitely not user-friendly. Makes you wonder about the efficiency of the whole process.

I hate to be that guy, but... have you considered hiring a tax professional? They might be able to figure out what's going on and expedite the process.

I've thought about it, but I'm hesitant to spend more money when I'm already waiting on refunds. But maybe it's worth it at this point...

A tax pro could also find deductions or credits you might have missed. They can pay for themselves!

Pro tip: If you owe taxes instead of getting a refund, they process it real quick. Maybe next year we should all aim to owe $1 just to speed things up 😂

0 coins

-

Mikayla Davison

Lol, watch them take a year to process that $1 payment tho

Just make sure whatever you do is legal. IRS probably has a rule against that somewhere.

Unpopular opinion: maybe we should all just be grateful we're getting refunds at all? The government could just keep all our money... 🤷‍♂️

Bruh, it's OUR money. We shouldn't have to be grateful for getting back what's rightfully ours.

I get what you're saying, but when you're counting on that money and it doesn't come, it's really stressful.

It's true that other countries have different tax systems, but it's still frustrating to wait for so long.

0 coins

-

Plot twist: the IRS is actually a front for a secret government time travel experiment, and our tax returns are funding it. That's why it takes so long - they're literally sending our money to the future! 🕰️👽

0 coins

-

Anna Kerber

Bruh 🤣 This actually makes more sense than the real explanation

0 coins

-

7M

Mikayla Davison

LOL if that's true, can they at least bring back some future tech to process our returns faster? 😂

0 coins

Imagine if we got some futuristic interest on our delayed refunds. That'd be nice.

Ugh, I feel your pain! I've been waiting on my 2022 refund for over a year now. It's ridiculous how long they make us wait. Have you tried calling the IRS or your state tax agency?

0 coins

-

Mikayla Davison

I've tried calling so many times, but I can never get through. It's like they don't want us to talk to a real person 🙄

0 coins

Pro tip: call right when they open in the morning. That's how I finally got through after months of trying!

It sounds like the phone lines are a nightmare. Has anyone tried calling at unconventional times, like late afternoon or close to closing?

Have you checked if there were any errors on your return? Sometimes even a small mistake can cause major delays. Might be worth going over everything with a fine-tooth comb.

Good point, even a minor typo can mess things up. Better safe than sorry!

I understand the frustration everyone is facing. Tax refund delays can be incredibly stressful, especially when you're counting on that money. While services like Claimyr can be a lifeline for some, especially when you have exhausted other means of contact, it's essential to weigh the cost against potential benefits. Always verify the legitimacy of such services through reviews or recommendations. The IRS's processing times have been impacted by staffing shortages and pandemic-related delays, which can explain some of the prolonged wait times. However, it's your right to receive timely communication regarding your refunds. If calling or online tools have not worked, consider using traditional mail for official queries or leveraging the Taxpayer Advocate Service if you're in a financial bind due to these delays. Additionally, check with local tax professionals to ensure all your paperwork was filed correctly. They can also offer advice on effective follow-ups and potential avenues you might not have considered. Flexibility and patience are key, along with persistent efforts to reach out to the right channels for assistance.

Here's what you need to do: 1. Double-check all your paperwork. Make sure you didn't miss any forms or make any errors. 2. Use the 'Get Transcript' tool on the IRS website to see if they've sent you any notices. 3. If you can't get through on the phone, try contacting them by mail. Send a letter explaining your situation and requesting an update. 4. Consider using the Taxpayer Advocate Service. They can help if you're experiencing financial hardship due to the delay. 5. As someone else mentioned, contacting your congressperson is a good option too. Remember, persistence is key. Don't give up! The squeaky wheel gets the grease, as they say.
