IRS Refund Delays: 2022 State and 2023 Federal Still Missing - Help Needed
I've been waiting for my tax refunds for ages and I'm at my wits end. Filed my state taxes for 2022 two years ago and still nothing. And now my 2023 federal refund is MIA too. I filed in March and expected it to be quicker. Anyone else dealing with this? Any advice on how to get through to someone who can actually help?

Pro tip: if you're expecting a large refund, consider adjusting your withholdings for next year. It's better to have the money throughout the year than to wait for a refund that may never come.

I've got a method that actually works to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of hold time. Worth every penny imho.

Claimyr has good reviews, but paying to connect to the IRS feels wrong. Hopefully, they'll improve their free systems soon.

Ugh, I feel your pain. The IRS and state tax agencies are like black holes where our money disappears. Have you tried using the "Where's My Refund?" tool on the IRS website? Sometimes it gives updates.

Yeah, I've been checking that tool obsessively. It just says "processing" for months now. So frustrating!

I tried it, and all I got was 'we're working on it.' It's like waiting for paint to dry.

Have you considered that there might be an error on your return? Sometimes small mistakes can cause big delays. Might be worth double-checking everything.

I've gone over it a million times, but maybe I'll take another look. At this point, I'm willing to try anything!

Tax software like TurboTax or H&R Block can help spot errors before filing.

Two years for a state refund?! That's insane. Have you tried contacting your local representative? Sometimes they can light a fire under these agencies.

Here's what you need to do to get this sorted: 1. Gather all your documents: tax returns, W-2s, any correspondence you've received. 2. Call the IRS early in the morning, right when they open. Less wait time. 3. Be polite but firm. Ask for a specific timeline and next steps. 4. Get a case number or reference ID for follow-up. 5. If they can't help, ask to speak with a supervisor. 6. For the state refund, contact your state tax agency separately. 7. Consider reaching out to your local Taxpayer Advocate Service for help. Don't give up! Keep pushing until you get answers. Good luck!

This is solid advice. I'd add: keep a log of every call, including who you spoke to and what they said. It helps if you need to escalate later.

Y'all ever think about how we're basically forced to do unpaid work (taxes) for the government, and then they have the audacity to make us wait for our own money back? π€ The system is rigged, man.

Unpopular opinion: maybe we should just get rid of tax refunds altogether and adjust withholdings so we break even each year. No more waiting game.

I work in accounting, and sadly, this is becoming more common. The IRS is understaffed and overworked. Your best bet is to keep calling and documenting everything. If you can prove financial hardship, sometimes they'll expedite your case.

This happened to me last year. Turns out there was a flag on my account due to potential identity theft. Took forever to sort out. Might be worth asking if there's any specific hold on your refund.

Oh man, I hadn't even thought of that. How did you find out about the flag?
