IRS Refund Delay: Missing Document or Return Issue? Need Advice for IRS Call Prep
Hey everyone, I'm having some issues with my tax refund. There's a delay and I'm not sure why. Has anyone else experienced this? I'm wondering if it's because of a missing document or something wrong with my return. Any advice on what I should do to prepare for my call with the IRS? Should I be looking at my tax transcript for transaction codes?

Ugh, welcome to the club. 🙄 I've been waiting on my refund for MONTHS now. It's so frustrating! Have you tried checking the 'Where's My Refund' tool on the IRS website? Sometimes that gives you a clue about whats going on.

Thanks for the suggestion! I've checked it but it just says 'Your return is still being processed.' Not very helpful 😞

Classic IRS move. They're about as helpful as a chocolate teapot sometimes 🍫☕

I had a similar issue last year. Turns out there was a discrepancy between what my employer reported and what I put on my return. Definitely check your W-2 against your return if you haven't already. Also, pull your tax transcript - it can show if there are any issues the IRS has flagged.

Pro tip: When you call the IRS, be prepared to wait. And wait. And wait some more. 📞⏳ I swear, I aged 10 years last time I was on hold with them. Make sure you have plenty of snacks and maybe a good book or Netflix queue ready to go!

Hey guys, I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/Jc9x-gysK0

Sounds too good to be true. Is this legit? Has anyone else tried it?

Yep, it's legit! I was skeptical at first too, but it saved me hours of hold time. Totally worth the $20 imo.

Wait, we have to PAY to talk to the IRS now? That's messed up. 😤

I get it, but think about how much your time is worth. For me, not sitting on hold for 3+ hours was worth the cost.

Here's what you need to do to prepare for your call with the IRS: 1. Gather all relevant documents: tax returns, W-2s, 1099s, etc. 2. Pull your tax transcript from the IRS website. Look for any transaction codes that might indicate why there's a delay. 3. Write down your specific questions and concerns. 4. Be patient and polite with the IRS agent - they're usually trying their best to help. 5. Take notes during the call. 6. Ask for a reference number for your case. 7. If they can't resolve your issue, ask about the Taxpayer Advocate Service. Remember, the IRS is dealing with a backlog, so delays are common. But stay persistent! Good luck!

Has anyone else noticed that the IRS seems to be moving slower than molasses in January lately? I filed in February and I'm still waiting. It's June now! 😫

Same here! I think they're still catching up from the pandemic tbh

Molasses in January? More like molasses at the north pole during a blizzard 🥶

Quick question - did you file electronically or by paper? Paper returns are taking FOREVER to process right now.

I filed electronically. Thought that would make it faster, but I guess not 🤷♂️

Huh, that is weird then. Definitely worth giving them a call to see what's up.

Plot twist: the IRS is actually run by sloths. That's why everything takes so long. 🦥📑

Nah, sloths would be an improvement. At least they're cute.
