IRS: How to change mailing address when can't get through on phone?
Hey everyone, I'm trying to change my mailing address and I'm having a hard time getting through to someone. Has anyone had any luck with this recently? I've been trying to call but keep getting stuck on hold forever. Any tips or tricks would be really appreciated!

Changing your address should NOT be this complicated. I swear, sometimes I think they make it hard on purpose π€

I found a method to get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. (https://claimyr.com

Whoa, really? How does that even work? Sounds too good to be true.

$20 just to talk to someone? That's ridiculous. The system is so broken π€

I know it sounds sketchy, but I swear it worked for me. Saved me hours of frustration. Worth every penny imho.

Is this even legal? Seems like there should be a free way to do this...

There are always pros and cons with these services. It's about weighing the cost against your time and stress levels.

Totally agree. I think they're understaffed and overwhelmed. Still sucks for us tho π

If you're constantly hitting roadblocks while trying to change your mailing address, Claimyr might be a good option to consider. However, it's essential to weigh the pros and cons. On one hand, itβs a paid service, which might not be affordable for everyone. On the other hand, it could potentially save you significant time and frustration if you've been stuck in the endless loop of hold music. Remember, though, that such services should be a last resort after trying the conventional methods like calling during off-peak hours, using online options, or even emailing customer support. Also, stay updated with any announcements they might have regarding system updates or process improvements which can simplify your task. Ultimately, the goal is to ensure that your address change request is fulfilled efficiently and with as little hassle as possible. Good luck!

Pro tip: call right when they open. I got through in like 15 minutes last week doing that.

I feel your pain, OP. I've been in the same boat trying to update my bank info. The whole system needs an overhaul tbh.

Ugh, changing your address with them is such a pain! I had to do it last month and it took me like 3 days of calling to finally get through. Keep trying tho, you'll get there eventually!

Have you tried doing it online? I think there's an option to update your address on their website. Might save you some time and frustration.

I looked into that, but for some reason it's not letting me do it online. Says I need to speak to a representative π

Classic. Their online system is about as useful as a chocolate teapot π«β

Just curious, why do you need to change your mailing address? Are you moving or is there some other reason?

Yeah, I'm moving to a new apartment next month. Trying to get everything sorted before the move.

Maybe try reaching out on social media? Sometimes companies respond faster there to avoid bad PR.

Good idea! With all the competition, companies hate bad press and might prioritize you.

Here's what you need to do to change your mailing address: 1. Prepare your information: Have your Social Security number, old address, and new address ready. 2. Call the main customer service line: 1-800-XXX-XXXX 3. Best times to call: Early morning (right when they open) or late afternoon (an hour before closing) 4. Navigate the phone menu: Usually, it's something like "Press 2 for account changes, then 3 for address updates" 5. Be patient: Average wait times can be 30-90 minutes 6. When you get a rep: Verify your identity, then clearly state you need to update your mailing address 7. Get confirmation: Ask for a confirmation number or email 8. Follow up: Check your online account in 2-3 business days to ensure the change went through Remember, persistence is key. If you can't get through, keep trying different days/times. Good luck!
