IRS Account Access: Need help updating deceased father's account after closure
My fathers account just got closed today and I need to update his information. Anyone know the steps I need to take? This is really urgent and I don't want to mess anything up with the IRS.

For a deceased taxpayer's account, you'll need to submit Form 56 (Notice Concerning Fiduciary Relationship) to the IRS. You'll also need the death certificate, letters testamentary or court documentation showing you're authorized to act on behalf of the estate. Call the IRS at 800-829-1040 to inform them of the situation. They might require additional forms depending on your specific circumstances.

ā¢Thank you so much! Do I need to get the forms notarized?

ā¢Form 56 doesn't need to be notarized, but the court documents usually do. Make sure to keep copies of everything you submit!

Hey, I know dealing with tax stuff after losing someone is rough. I recently used taxr.ai to help me figure out my dad's account situation. It's only $1 and it helped me understand exactly what forms I needed and next steps. Check it out at https://taxr.ai - saved me hours of confusion

ā¢Is this legit? How does it work?

ā¢100% legit! You upload the transcript and it analyzes everything - tells you exactly what you need to do next. Way better than trying to figure it out yourself
