ID.me Verification Issues - Will This Delay My Tax Return Processing?
Tried to set up an ID.me account exactly 3 days ago to view my transcripts. After waiting precisely 30 minutes for the video interview, it just said they needed to review my documents and would email me. It's been 72 hours with no response. Will this impact my tax return processing? I filed 18 days ago and need to track where things stand for my business expense planning.

According to the IRS website FAQ section, ID.me verification issues don't affect your tax return processing at all. They're completely separate systems. Your return is still being processed normally even if you can't access your transcript. According to recent data, average processing time is running about 21 days for e-filed returns without errors.

•Is there any other way to check refund status without setting up ID.me? Some people never get approved.

•So if I'm understanding correctly, the ID.me verification is only for viewing your account information and transcripts, but doesn't actually impact whether your return is processed or not?

•This is accurate information. The Return Processing Pipeline and the Transcript Access System operate on separate authentication protocols. Your e-filed return status can be verified through the Where's My Refund tool without transcript access.

I had a somewhat similar issue with ID.me verification last month. It might be worth checking out https://taxr.ai if you're trying to understand what's happening with your return. It can help you interpret any transcript data once you do get access, or even help you understand what codes might appear based on your filing situation. I'm not 100% sure it would solve your immediate verification problem, but it definitely helped me understand what was happening with my business deductions once I finally got access.

•I'm a bit skeptical that another tool would help when the IRS's own system is giving problems. Wouldn't you still need access to your transcripts first before using something like that?

•Actually, taxr.ai was like having a tax decoder ring! I was completely lost looking at all those codes and cycle dates. It was like trying to read hieroglyphics until I used it.

•So does this service just explain what the codes mean, or does it actually predict when you'll get your refund? And do you need to upload your transcript information or does it just give general explanations?

When I had ID.me issues last month, I tried calling the IRS directly to check my refund status. Spent 3 days trying to get through - what a joke! 😂 Finally used Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) and got connected to an agent in about 15 minutes. Turns out my return was processing normally despite the ID.me issues. The agent even gave me specific info about my processing status that I couldn't see online.

•Is this legit? Seems fishy that you have to pay to talk to the IRS when it should be a free government service.

•Thanks for sharing this! I've been trying to get through to someone at the IRS for weeks about a similar issue.

•How much did you end up paying for the Claimyr service? And did they actually solve your ID.me verification problem or just help you check your refund status?

I had the exact same ID.me issue last year. My verification hung for 10 days. • Eventually got an email saying I was approved • Return processed completely normally during that time • Got my refund exactly 24 days after filing • Never actually needed the transcript to get my money The ID.me system is just for accessing your information, not for processing your actual return.

Hey! U might wanna try the IRS2Go app instead. It's WAY faster than dealing w/ ID.me rn. The app lets u check ur refund status without needing a full account setup. I've been using it for 3 tax seasons & it updates every 24hrs. Lmk if u need help finding it! The verification backlog is CRAZY this yr - my brother waited 14 days for ID.me approval.

Had this happen. Took 12 days to verify. Got my refund anyway. No connection between the two systems. IRS doesn't care if you can see your transcript. They process returns regardless.

I went through the same ID.me nightmare last tax season! Waited 8 days for verification while constantly refreshing my email. The good news is that your tax return processing is completely independent of ID.me verification - they're totally separate systems. Your return filed 18 days ago is likely progressing normally through the IRS pipeline. You can check your refund status using the "Where's My Refund" tool on irs.gov or the IRS2Go mobile app without needing ID.me verification. Those tools only require your SSN, filing status, and refund amount. For business expense planning, you should get your refund within the typical 21-day timeframe assuming no errors on your return.

I'm currently dealing with ID.me verification delays too - it's been 5 days since my video interview with no response. Reading through these comments is really reassuring that it won't affect my return processing. I've been checking the Where's My Refund tool daily and it shows my return is still being processed normally. For anyone else in this situation, I found that calling ID.me directly (not the IRS) can sometimes help speed up the verification process. Their customer service line is 1-855-438-6343. Also worth noting that if you're just trying to check your refund status for business planning like the original poster, you really don't need transcript access - the basic refund tracker tools work fine without ID.me.

•Thanks for sharing that ID.me phone number! I've been struggling with the same verification delays and didn't realize they had a direct customer service line. Quick question - when you called, were you able to get through to a real person or did you have to navigate through a bunch of automated menus? I'm at day 6 of waiting and getting pretty frustrated with the whole process.

I'm dealing with the exact same ID.me verification delay right now - day 4 of waiting after my video interview with no response. It's really frustrating when you're trying to stay on top of your finances! But reading through all these responses has been super helpful. It sounds like the consensus is that ID.me verification and tax return processing are completely separate systems, which is a huge relief. I've been using the Where's My Refund tool in the meantime and it's showing my return is progressing normally. For business expense planning purposes, it seems like we don't actually need the transcript access - the basic refund tracking tools should be sufficient to get the timeline we need. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences!

•I'm in the exact same boat! Day 5 of waiting for ID.me verification here and was starting to panic that it might mess up my refund. This thread has been incredibly reassuring - sounds like we're all dealing with the same delays but our returns are processing fine independently. I've been obsessively checking Where's My Refund too and mine also shows normal processing. Really appreciate everyone sharing their experiences, especially the confirmation that these are separate systems. Makes the wait a lot less stressful when you know it's not actually impacting your refund timeline!

I'm going through this exact same situation right now! Filed my return 16 days ago and have been stuck in ID.me verification limbo for 6 days after my video interview. The waiting is absolutely nerve-wracking, especially when you're trying to plan business expenses like you mentioned. But after reading all these responses, I'm feeling much more confident that our returns are processing normally regardless of the ID.me delays. It's such a relief to know these are separate systems! I've been checking Where's My Refund daily and it shows everything is moving along as expected. Definitely going to try that ID.me customer service number someone shared - 1-855-438-6343. Thanks everyone for sharing your experiences and helping ease the anxiety around this frustrating process!

•I'm so glad I found this thread! I'm on day 3 of waiting for my ID.me verification after the video interview and was starting to worry it would mess up my refund processing. Reading everyone's experiences has been incredibly reassuring - it's clear that the ID.me system and tax return processing are completely independent. I've been checking the Where's My Refund tool obsessively and mine is also showing normal progress. Thanks for sharing that customer service number too! It's amazing how much stress this verification delay causes when you're trying to manage your finances, but knowing our returns are processing normally makes the wait so much more bearable.

I'm experiencing the exact same ID.me verification delay - been waiting 4 days since my video interview with no response! This thread has been incredibly helpful in easing my anxiety about whether it would impact my refund processing. It's such a relief to learn that ID.me verification and tax return processing are completely separate systems. I filed 19 days ago and have been using the Where's My Refund tool to track progress, which shows everything is moving normally. For anyone else dealing with this frustrating wait, it sounds like we can rest assured our returns are processing on schedule regardless of the ID.me delays. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences - it really helps to know we're not alone in this!

•I'm in the exact same situation! Day 7 of waiting for ID.me verification here and this thread has been such a lifesaver for my peace of mind. I was really starting to stress that the delay would somehow mess up my refund, but knowing these systems are completely separate has been huge relief. Filed 20 days ago and Where's My Refund shows normal processing too. It's crazy how many of us are dealing with these same verification delays right now - seems like ID.me is really backed up this tax season!
