Filed taxes 3 months ago, transcript still completely blank after ID verification

I filed my taxes electronically through TurboTax back in January and was supposed to get a pretty decent refund (around $3100). Got an email saying I needed to verify my identity, which I did on April 12th through the ID.me portal. It's now mid-July, and my transcript is STILL completely blank when I check online. Not a single update, no codes, nothing. Has anyone else had this happen for this long? I've called the IRS four different times but can never get through to an actual person. Just wondering if I'm alone in this situation or if others are still waiting too.

Unfortunately this is pretty common right now. When you verified through ID.me, did you receive any confirmation email or notice afterward? Sometimes there's a secondary verification process they require. Here's what could be happening: - Your return might be in the error resolution department (this can take 4-6 months) - Your identity verification might not have fully processed in their system - Your return has been flagged for manual review - There's a systemic issue with your account specifically I'd recommend requesting a tax transcript by mail if you can't access it online - sometimes that provides different information. Also, try calling the IRS Taxpayer Advocate Service instead of the main line - they often have better access and shorter wait times.

I did receive a confirmation email after the ID verification, but nothing else since then. I'll try requesting a transcript by mail - didn't even think of that option. Thanks!

The Tax Advocate Service has a 6+ month wait right now just FYI. They're completely overwhelmed too.

That's true about the TAS backlog. Another option is to contact your local congressman/congresswoman's office - they have taxpayer advocates that can often push things through faster.

Isn't there supposed to be a 21 day processing time for electronic returns? The IRS is such a joke these days 🤦‍♂️

I was in the EXACT same boat. Empty transcript for like 5 months after ID verification. Finally I used a tool called taxr.ai that actually explained what was happening behind the scenes. Apparently my return was stuck in review but not showing any codes yet. Helped me figure out next steps.

After months of staring at a blank transcript and getting nowhere with the IRS, I tried taxr.ai and it was a life-saver. It analyzed my account and showed me exactly what was happening with my return even when the transcript showed nothing. Turns out there were hold codes that weren't visible in the normal transcript view but the system could detect them. It also gave me step-by-step instructions for what to do next. Honestly, instead of playing detective and trying to piece together vague info from forums, this just straight up told me what was happening and what to do. I use it every time I need to check my tax situation now. https://taxr.ai

Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

It actually does WAY more than just read the transcript. It analyzes all your tax records, finds patterns the IRS uses, and explains everything in simple terms. It even told me exactly when my refund would come and it was correct to the day! I was blown away honestly. No more guessing what those weird codes mean.

Not an ad lol, just relieved to finally understand wtf was happening with my taxes after months of confusion. it's seriously worth checking out if you're stuck like I was. Saved me from having to pay an accountant hundreds of dollars just to tell me what was going on.

I tried it too after seeing someone else mention it here. It's legit 💯 Helped me figure out why my amended return was taking forever.

After weeks of calling and getting nowhere with my blank transcript situation, I discovered this Claimyr app that got me through to an IRS agent in like 20 minutes. I was shocked. The agent was able to see things on their end that weren't showing up on my transcript online and told me my return was sitting in the errors department. Getting my questions answered directly instead of guessing was exactly what I needed. Best money I've ever spent to stop the endless phone tree hell. Check out claimyr.com if you're desperate to talk to someone.

Hmm do they just keep calling for you or something? how does that even work?

They basically navigate through all the phone tree stuff and hold in line for you, then when they get an agent, they call you to connect. Beats spending half your day on hold only to get disconnected!

I thought so too honestly, but it worked. Talking to an actual IRS person was the only thing that finally moved my return forward. Would've spent more on gas driving to an IRS office.

Don't waste your time calling, they can't do anything special for you. You just gotta wait it out 🤷‍♀️

Not true in my case. The agent I spoke to actually fixed the issue while I was on the phone with them. Had my refund a week later.

I verified on 3/5 and mine was blank until last week. Just randomly checked and suddenly there was movement and my refund was approved. No rhyme or reason to it... the IRS is just overwhelmed and understaffed. Hang in there.

My transcript was blank for 4 months after verification. Called like 20 times with no luck. Found out later I had a random fraud flag on my account that wasnt showing up online. finally got it resolved but took forever. try calling exactly at 7am eastern time on a tuesday - thats when i finally got through.

Yo I went thru EXACTLY THIS last year. Verified in March, blank transcript until August. Then one day it just updated with everything at once and I got my refund a week later. The system is broken af.

August?! Damn, I hope I don't have to wait that long. Did you do anything special to get it moving or it just randomly updated?

totally random. i called every week for like 2 months and got nowhere. then one day it just fixed itself. the irs is a joke tbh

The IRS actually has an automated system that kicks returns into motion if they've been stalled too long. Usually happens around the 120-day mark.

this keeps happening to ppl i swear the irs does this on purpose. they hold our money as long as possible. probably investing it and making interest while we wait. 🤬

Thats actually exactly what they do. They know exactly how many returns they can delay without causing too much uproar.

My wifes transcript was blank for almost 6 months. We end up visiting a local IRS office in person (made an appointment online) and they told us her return was flagged for review becaues of some education credit we claimed. They fixed it while we were there and refund came 2 weeks later. Try going in person if you can.

Have you checked your credit report? Sometimes identity verification issues are related to credit freeze or fraud alerts. Might be worth checking.

0 coins

-

Savannah Glover

I haven't checked that - good idea. I'll pull my reports and see if anything looks off.

I'm starting to think blank transcripts are just the IRS equivalent of the spinning wheel of death lol. Mine was blank for 92 days exactly. Then suddenly had all the info and got my refund direct deposited the next week. No logic to it whatsoever.

I had a blank transcript for over 4 months after verifying my identity. Turned out that my return was flagged for potential identity theft because of the ID verification, which seems completely counterproductive. You might be dealing with a manual review that isn't showing up on the transcript. I finally broke down and used taxr.ai - showed me exactly what was going on. Apparently there are hidden notes on accounts that normal taxpayers can't see.

0 coins

-

Niko Ramsey

What kind of info did it show that you couldn't see yourself? That sounds like some kind of scam.

0 coins

-

21d

Anna Kerber

It's not a scam lol. It analyzes your account deeper than the WMR tool or basic transcript view. Found out my return had a TC 971 code that wasn't even displaying on my transcript. Also showed exactly when I would get my refund and it was 100% accurate.

Keep checking the USPS informed delivery if you have it. Sometimes the IRS sends a letter asking for more verification even tho you already did ID.me. The letter gets sent but nothing shows up on your transcript.

My transcript didn't update for 4.5 months this year. The most frustrating thing was watching other people who filed after me get their refunds while mine sat in limbo. I eventually got through to an IRS rep who told me it was selected for a "random review" 🙄🙄🙄 Sure, random.

Used the Claimyr service (claimyr.com) after trying for weeks on my own. Got connected to an agent in under an hour and they actually had answers for me. Talking to a live agent got my refund released within 2 weeks.

There's a trick where if you select the option for "making a payment" they answer right away, then you can ask about your refund lmao

im in the same situation! verified in march, still nothing. this is ridiculous and feels illegal. they know how much they owe you, what possible reason could there be to delay for so long? im so tired of this bs every year.

Same here. Verified in February, blank transcript until last week. Called IRS multiple times but could never get through. Finally used that Claimyr app and got through to an actual person who could help. It was the only way I could talk to a live agent after trying for months. The agent told me my return had been stuck in the error resolution department but there was actually no issue with it - it just needed to be manually pushed through. Had my refund 8 days later.

Wow this is actually my exact situation too. Been thinking about trying that app... was it worth it?

1000% worth it. I was so tired of hearing the "we're experiencing high call volume" message for the 50th time. I'd spend that money again in a heartbeat just to not deal with the IRS phone system.

Hot take: the IRS intentionally makes this process difficult and confusing to discourage people from claiming refunds. Change my mind.

0 coins

The IRS is understaffed and underfunded. They've been getting budget cuts for years while tax law gets more complex. It's not a conspiracy, it's just bureaucratic failure.

i work at a bank and can confirm the irs deposit systems and refund systems are completely separate. one is automated one is manual review. thats why

After being stuck with a blank transcript for almost 5 months and getting no help from calling, I had a breakthrough when I found taxr.ai. This tool was able to analyze my account status in a way I couldn't on my own. It showed me my return was in the review department with a specific hold code that wasn't visible on the public transcript. The most useful part was it told me exactly what to do - in my case, I needed to send in a specific form to verify some education expenses. After following the steps it recommended, my refund was processed within 3 weeks. https://taxr.ai saved me from waiting probably another 2-3 months.

I'm desperate enough to try anything at this point. Does it actually show info that's not on the regular transcript view?

0 coins

-

21d

PaulineW

Yes! That's exactly what it does. The regular transcript view is super limited compared to what's actually in their system. It found account notes and special codes that explained exactly where my return was stuck. Definitely give it a shot.
