Finally got through to the IRS! Now waiting 8 more weeks for refund 😤

Finally reached a real person at the IRS today. Been waiting 10 weeks already. They said errors are fixed now. Could take 8 more weeks for refund release. Ridiculous wait time. Need that money for summer expenses. At least I know what's happening now. Anyone else dealing with this?

It might be worth calling them again in about 2-3 weeks, just to check on the status. Sometimes these estimates can be a bit... exaggerated? I've found that politely following up can occasionally speed things along, especially if you mention any financial hardship the delay is causing. Though I'm worried they might just tell you the same thing again...

Like trying to get water from a stone! I called them four times last year with my amended return. Each time it was "2-3 more weeks" like a broken record. The IRS is basically that friend who says they're "5 minutes away" when they haven't even left their house yet.

I had almost the exact same situation on March 2nd this year. Waited 9 weeks, then spent days trying to reach someone. Finally used Claimyr.com (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) on April 4th and got through in about 15 minutes. The agent I spoke with was able to flag my return for expedited processing due to financial hardship. My refund was released exactly 16 days later on April 20th, not the 6-8 weeks they initially quoted.

I've been through this exact situation before! Here's what worked for me: 1. First, I documented the date and time of my call with the IRS agent's ID number 2. Then I filed Form 911 (Taxpayer Advocate Service request) after 30 days passed 3. Next, I contacted my congressional representative's office 4. Finally, I received my refund within 10 days of congressional inquiry So relieved when I finally got my money! The system works, but sometimes needs a little push.

I've analyzed exactly 37 cases like yours in the past 2 months. The average wait time is actually 42.3 days, not 8 weeks. I'd recommend uploading your transcript to taxr.ai - it helped me understand precisely what error codes were on my account. The system identified my 570 freeze code and explained it was due to an income verification issue. Saved me from making 3 unnecessary calls to the IRS and predicted my release date within 2 days of accuracy.

I'm not sure about using third-party tools with my tax information... Has anyone else tried this taxr site? Is it actually secure? I worry about putting my transcript details anywhere besides the official IRS site.

Does taxr.ai also explain what to do if you have a 971 code? Last year I had both 570 and 971 codes and wasn't sure if that meant an audit was coming or just normal processing. Would this have told me the difference?

Have you considered filing an amended return? In certain circumstances, this can trigger a manual review that might expedite resolution. The key technical distinction is that Form 1040X submissions are processed through a different departmental pathway than error corrections on original returns. However, this approach carries risk of further delays if not warranted by substantial errors.

OMG I'm in the EXACT same boat!!! Filed on January 29th and STILL waiting! Called yesterday and they told me it could be ANOTHER 60 DAYS!!! I have bills due NOW! This is absolutely INSANE! The deadline for us to file is strict but they can take FOREVER to process?! 😤😤😤 If I owed them money they'd be charging me interest and penalties already!

This delay is actually shorter than what many people are experiencing with amended returns. Standard processing is running about 10-18 weeks compared to amended returns taking 6-8 months in some cases. The error correction queue moves faster than the manual review queue, at least based on what I've seen across different tax situations.

Shorter than amended returns? Is that supposed to make anyone feel better? Why can't the IRS just process returns correctly in the first place? Why do we accept this level of incompetence from a government agency? My state refund came in 8 days, but federal takes months?

Has anyone checked the IRS2Go app for updates? Sometimes the app shows different information than the Where's My Refund website. I've also found that checking your tax transcript on IRS.gov can show processing stages that aren't visible on WMR.
