How long after in-person identity verification until refund arrives?
Had to verify my identity in person at the IRS office last week. Finally got that done. Now waiting for my refund. Been through this before in 2022. Anyone know the typical wait time after verification? Need this money soon. Mortgage due next month. Already waited 8 weeks since filing.

Based on recent processing patterns, you should typically expect your refund within 9-21 days after successful identity verification. However, I should caution that this timeframe can vary depending on several factors including current IRS workload, whether there are any other review flags on your return, and the complexity of your tax situation. The verification process essentially puts your return back into the normal processing queue, but with identity concerns resolved.

•Thank you so much for this info! Really helps to have an actual timeframe to look forward to!

•Is that 9-21 calendar days or business days? My verification was completed on April 2nd, 2024, so I'm trying to figure out exactly when I should expect something.

•This matches what happened with my parents' return compared to mine. They had to verify and got their refund 14 days later. I didn't need verification and mine took the standard 21 days. The verification actually seemed to speed things up once completed.

I went through identity verification exactly 37 days ago. Received my refund precisely 11 days after verification was completed. The IRS representative told me it would take 9 weeks, but it was much faster. My verification was done on March 1st, 2024, and the refund hit my account on March 12th, 2024. The amount was $4,321, which included interest of $17.83 for the delay. Your timeframe may differ based on current processing volumes.

I was in your exact situation in February. Needed the money bad. Had to verify in person. Got my refund 13 days later. Not too long. They're pretty fast once you verify. Don't worry too much. Just keep checking your account daily. It'll show up.

If you need to check on status but can't get through to the IRS (which is likely this time of year): • Try Claimyr to skip the hold times (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) • They connect you directly to an IRS agent who can check your exact status • Worth it when you need answers fast for financial planning • Much better than the vague "still processing" message online I used it after my identity verification when my refund didn't show up in the expected timeframe. Found out there was a secondary review that wouldn't have shown online.

I had to verify my identity last tax season and thought I was in the clear afterward. Turns out there was another issue they didn't tell me about! My refund took 6 weeks after verification because they were reviewing a credit I claimed. I wish I'd followed up sooner. I kept assuming it was just slow processing, but when I finally got through to someone, they told me they needed additional documentation. Did they mention anything else they might need from you during your verification appointment?

I've been through the verification process three times over the years. In my experience, there's a pattern most don't realize. The time of year matters significantly. Early season verifications (January-February) typically process faster than mid-season (March-April). Last year, my February verification took 8 days for the refund to arrive. In 2019, my April verification took nearly 4 weeks. The system gets overwhelmed as tax season progresses. Don't count on the money until it's actually in your account.

I just went through this exact same process two months ago, so I can share my recent experience. After completing in-person identity verification on January 15th, I received my refund on January 28th - so exactly 13 days later. The IRS agent at the office told me to expect 2-3 weeks, which was pretty accurate. One thing that helped me track it was that my "Where's My Refund" tool updated about 3 days before the money actually hit my account, showing it had been approved and giving me a deposit date. Since you're dealing with mortgage payments, I'd definitely recommend checking that tool daily starting around day 7-8 after verification. Also, make sure your bank account info on file is correct - any issues there can add another week or two to the process.

•This is really helpful timing info! I'm curious - did you have to bring any specific documents beyond what they initially told you? I'm worried they might ask for something else when I go in next week. Also, did the "Where's My Refund" tool show any status changes during those 13 days, or did it just stay on "processing" until it updated with the approval?
