Filed taxes, marked complete, but no refund yet - what's wrong with my IRS return?

Hey everyone, I filed my taxes a while back and it said complete, but I still haven't received my return. Anyone else experiencing this? I'm trying to figure out what's wrong and why it's taking so long. Any advice or similar experiences would be appreciated!

Ugh, same boat here. Filed months ago and still nothing. The IRS website just says 'processing' when I check. So frustrating! 😤

How long has it been for you? I'm going on 3 months now and starting to get worried.

Almost 4 months for me! This is ridiculous. I'm starting to wonder if they lost my return or something.

Guys, hate to break it to you but I waited 6 months last year. The system is beyond broken 🤡

Have you tried calling the IRS? Sometimes there are issues they need to verify that can hold up your return.

I've tried calling but can never get through. It's always busy or I'm on hold forever. Any tips for actually reaching a human?

Pro tip: I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. I used this site's (claimyr.com) calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, waits for a live agent to pick up, then sends the call to my phone. It does cost $20, but it works. Wait, seriously? $20 just to talk to someone at the IRS? That's insane!

I know it sounds crazy, but after wasting hours trying to get through, it was worth it for me. Saved me a ton of time and stress.

Here's what I've learned from my experience and research: 1. If it's been less than 21 days since you e-filed (or 6 weeks for paper filing), be patient. The IRS is still within their normal processing time. 2. Check the IRS2Go app or 'Where's My Refund' tool on the IRS website for updates. 3. Common reasons for delays include: - Errors on your return - Incomplete information - Identity theft prevention measures - If you claimed certain credits (like Earned Income Tax Credit) 4. If it's been more than 21 days (or 6 weeks for paper filing), you can try calling the IRS, but be prepared for long wait times. 5. Consider setting up an account on the IRS website to access more detailed information about your return. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions.

Wow, thanks for the detailed info! I'll definitely check out the IRS2Go app. It's been about 5 weeks for me, so I guess I'm still within the normal timeframe. 🤞

This is super helpful, thanks for sharing! Do you know if amended returns take longer? I had to submit one and I'm worried it'll take forever.

Glad it's helpful! And yes, amended returns typically take longer - up to 16 weeks according to the IRS. But you can check the status of amended returns on the IRS website too.

Has anyone else noticed that the 'Where's My Refund' tool is about as useful as a chocolate teapot? It never seems to have any actual information!

For real tho! It's always like 'Your return is being processed' ... no shit Sherlock, tell me something I don't know 🙄

I swear it's just a placebo to make us feel like were doing something productive while we wait 😂

Quick question - did you file electronically or by paper? I've heard paper returns are taking way longer this year.

0 coins

I filed electronically. Thought it would be faster but I guess not 😕

Huh, that's weird then. E-filing is usually pretty quick. Maybe double check that it was actually submitted successfully?

Guys I literaly just got my refund today after waiting for 4 months. There is hope! Hang in there!

0 coins

Congrats! 🎉 Did you do anything special or did it just randomly show up?

0 coins

Nope, just appeared in my account this morning. No warning or updates or anything. The IRS works in mysterious ways lol

PSA: If you're expecting a large refund, consider adjusting your withholdings so you get more money throughout the year instead of waiting for a big refund. It's basically an interest-free loan to the government!

This! 👆 I started doing this last year and it's so much better. Plus, you're not at the mercy of IRS delays.

Anyone else feel like they need a degree in accounting just to file taxes? And then another in patience to actually get your refund? 🙃
