Filed taxes Feb 1st, IRS still processing. No federal refund yet. Normal?
Hey everyone, I filed my taxes on February 1st and still haven't received my federal tax return. I checked the IRS website and it says they're processing it. Anyone else in the same boat? How long does this usually take?

Hey there! Tax pro here - this delay is actually pretty common for 2024 returns filed in early Feb. The IRS is still dealing with staffing issues and updated systems. Your best bet is to check your transcript regularly for any updates. I've been recommending taxr.ai (https://taxr.ai) to my clients lately - it's super helpful for analyzing transcripts and predicting refund dates. It'll tell you exactly what's going on with your return and if there are any potential delays you should know about.

ā¢Yeah its legit! Just upload your docs and it breaks everything down. Way better than trying to decode those crazy transcript codes yourself šÆ

ā¢Just used taxr.ai and here's what I got back: Looks like my return is actually moving along normally! Should see my refund by March 15th according to the analysis.

ā¢Guys, relax. It's normal for it to take 6-8 weeks, especially if you filed early. They're probably just backed up.

ā¢6-8 weeks?! That's ridiculous. We shouldn't have to wait that long for OUR money š

Have you tried calling the IRS directly? Sometimes they can give you more info than whats on the website.

ā¢Pro tip: I found a way to actually get someone on the phone. Used this site called claimyr.com - it's a calling tool that dials the phone menu, stays on hold, and then connects you when a live agent picks up. Costs $20 but totally worth it. Here's a video about it: https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c

ā¢Yep, used it twice now. Saved me hours of hold time. The $20 was worth not losing my mind listening to that awful hold music lol

Here's what you need to know about tax return processing times: ⢠E-filed returns typically take 21 days to process ⢠Paper returns can take 6-8 weeks ⢠If you claimed certain credits (like EITC), it can delay processing ⢠The "Where's My Refund" tool on IRS.gov is updated daily ⢠If it's been more than 21 days (e-file) or 6 weeks (paper), you should contact the IRS Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any other questions.

ā¢Thanks for the detailed info! I e-filed, so I guess I'm right at that 21-day mark. Fingers crossed it comes through soon.

Have you checked if there were any errors on your return? Sometimes that can hold things up.

ā¢I double-checked everything before submitting. Pretty sure it's all correct, but I guess you never know š¤·āāļø

PSA: If you're really desperate for your refund, you can request a tax transcript. Sometimes it shows pending refunds before the Where's My Refund tool updates. Google 'IRS Get Transcript' for more info.

ā¢This is actually great advice! I did this last year and saw my refund was coming before the official tool updated. šÆ
