Anyone that filed in February still waiting on their refund? It's almost June! 🙃
I e-filed back in February (around the 15th) and still nothing! Just the dreaded "processing" status. Is anyone else in the same boat? I thought being an early bird would help me get my refund faster but it's been over 3 months now... 😅 This is my first time filing in the US since I moved here last year, so maybe I'm missing something? Is this normal or should I be worried at this point? Starting to think the IRS lost my paperwork in some digital black hole lol.

February filers are definitely experiencing longer wait times this year. According to the latest IRS data, approximately 27% of returns filed between February 12-18 are still in processing status. The current average processing time is 42 days, but for returns with certain credits or documentation issues, it can extend to 91 days. If you haven't received any notices requesting additional information, your return is likely just in the standard processing queue.

This matches my experience. Per IRS Publication 5027, international filers often face additional verification steps. I filed February 10th and just received my refund last week. The IRS is required by Internal Revenue Code Section 6611 to pay interest on refunds issued more than 45 days after the filing deadline, which might be some consolation.

How does this compare to last year's processing times? I remember 2023 was supposed to be better than the post-pandemic backlog years, but it seems like we're back to delays again.

Did you claim any tax credits? I filed February 7th and was counting on that money for some car repairs. Still waiting too! My sister filed in early April and already got hers back which makes no sense to me. Anyone know if there's a way to check if there's an actual problem vs just slow processing?

Credits delay processing. Especially Child Tax Credit. Or Earned Income Credit. Check your transcript. Look for codes 570/971. Those indicate review.

I'm concerned about this too... if we filed in February and still don't have our refunds, could this mean we're being audited? I've heard that long delays sometimes mean they've flagged something for review, but I'm not sure if that's true or just a rumor?

The IRS processing system is like a highway during rush hour - some cars zip through the express lane while others get stuck in traffic for no apparent reason. Your return might be sitting in a verification queue, which is like waiting at a toll booth while they check your E-ZPass. Being an international filer is like driving an unusual vehicle that gets a second look from the highway patrol. Nothing to worry about, but it does take longer.

I filed on February 22nd and was stuck in processing until last week. After waiting on hold with the IRS for 2+ hours on three separate days (April 12th, April 27th, and May 5th), I finally used Claimyr (https://www.claimyr.com) and got through to an agent in about 30 minutes. Turns out they needed to verify my identity because I had moved since my last filing. The agent was able to complete the verification right there on the phone and my refund was approved two days later. Might be worth checking if you're stuck in some verification process too!

I'm impressed with the statistical breakdown provided above, but I'd caution about the 27% figure. The IRS Operational Statistics don't provide that level of granularity in their public reporting. The Refund Status Distribution metric only shows aggregate processing tiers, not specific filing date cohorts. While extended processing times are occurring, attributing precise percentages might be misleading.

The IRS processing pipeline actually does track cohort-specific completion rates internally. Here's how the system works: 1. Initial processing assigns your return to a processing batch 2. Batches move through primary validation (typically 7-14 days) 3. Returns then undergo secondary screening for potential review flags 4. International returns specifically go through ITIN/Foreign Income verification 5. Final processing occurs before refund authorization The February cohort statistics cited earlier align with the Taxpayer Advocate Service mid-season report. For international filers specifically, additional verification is standard procedure, not an exception.

Where can we actually see these stats ourselves? I've been checking IRS.gov and can't find anything that shows current processing times or backlog information. Is there some resource I'm missing that would let me see if February filers are still commonly waiting?

OMG I'm so glad I'm not the only one! I literally triple-checked EVERYTHING before filing on Feb 18th and I'm STILL waiting!!! Called the IRS seven times and couldn't get through. My transcript shows absolutely nothing helpful - just N/A for 2024. I've been checking every. single. day. This is driving me CRAZY!! 😭😭
