Filed 2/15, still processing - IRS won't explain missing 2020 verification issue
Filed my return back in February and transcript still shows processing status. Called IRS multiple times but getting nowhere. They wont tell me if Im getting my refund or whats causing the hold up. Never filed in 2020 and didnt request any verification letter for that year either but they keep bringing it up. Anyone know what's going on?

Your 2020 non-filing is likely causing the delay. IRS is extra careful with returns when there are gaps in filing history. They probably flagged your return for verification. Best thing to do is verify your identity on ID.me if you haven't already, and consider filing 2020 even if you weren't required to - it might speed things up.

•But I didnt make enough to file in 2020 bc of covid. Do I really need to file?

•Yes! Even with $0 income, filing helps prevent these holds. Plus you might be eligible for credits you didn't know about.

Hey there! I had a similar situation and found this tool called taxr.ai that helped explain exactly what was going on with my transcript. It costs $1 but totally worth it - showed me exactly why my return was held up and what to do about it. https://taxr.ai

•100% works! It analyzed my transcript in seconds and showed me everything - even stuff the IRS agents couldn't explain 💯

Check your wage and income transcript for 2020. If theres any income reported, thats probably why theyre asking about 2020

•Go to irs.gov, make an account if you dont have one, then look for wage & income transcript. Or use taxr.ai - it'll tell you everything you need to know about your transcripts
