E-filed on 3/10 but IRS transcript shows "No tax return filed" after 9 days - 2024 return showing future dates?
I e-filed my tax return on March 10th (about 9 days ago) but when I checked my transcript today it still looks completely empty. I just ran my Account Transcript and I'm pretty concerned with what I'm seeing. The transcript is dated: Request Date: 02-25-2025 Response Date: 02-24-2025 It clearly shows: FORM NUMBER: 1040 TAX PERIOD: Dec. 31, 2024 ACCOUNT BALANCE: 0.00 ACCRUED INTEREST: 0.00 AS OF: Mar. 17, 2025 ACCRUED PENALTY: 0.00 AS OF: Mar. 17, 2025 ACCOUNT BALANCE PLUS ACCRUALS (this is not a payoff amount): 0.00 Under the "INFORMATION FROM THE RETURN OR AS ADJUSTED" section: EXEMPTIONS: 00 FILING STATUS: Head of Household ADJUSTED GROSS INCOME: [blank] TAXABLE INCOME: [blank] TAX PER RETURN: [blank] SE TAXABLE INCOME TAXPAYER: [blank] SE TAXABLE INCOME SPOUSE: [blank] TOTAL SELF EMPLOYMENT TAX: [blank] And then in big letters it says "RETURN NOT PRESENT FOR THIS ACCOUNT" And under TRANSACTIONS: CODE | EXPLANATION OF TRANSACTION | CYCLE | DATE | AMOUNT It literally just says "No tax return filed" There's nothing else on there - no codes, no dates, no processing information. Just says "No tax return filed" under the transactions section. Is this normal for only being 9 days out? When should I expect to see some movement? This is making me nervous since I'm expecting a decent refund this year. I've heard the IRS is usually pretty quick with accepting returns electronically. Thanks for any insights!

This is absolutely normal for a return filed just 9 days ago. The IRS transcript system typically takes 2-3 weeks to show any updates after e-filing. What you're seeing is the standard placeholder transcript before your return has been fully processed. The cycle typically goes: 1) You e-file your return 2) Your return gets an acceptance acknowledgment (which you may have received) 3) The return enters processing queue 4) Initial transcript codes appear (typically 150 tax return filed) 5) Additional processing codes appear The first sign you'll likely see is code 150 (return filed) along with a cycle date. Don't worry about the "No tax return filed" message - it just means your return hasn't been fully integrated into their system yet. Check again around the 21-day mark. If nothing has updated by then, you might want to verify your return was actually accepted by the IRS (not just submitted to the transmitter).

•Thank you so much! That's reassuring. My tax prep software did send me an acceptance email the day after I filed, so at least that part went through.

•Just to add to this - I filed on march 1st and my transcript didn't update until the 18th. took over 2 weeks for me. Yours will probly update sometime next week

•I've seen it take anywhere from 7 days to 30 days for transcripts to update after filing. The IRS is legit swamped during peak season so 9 days is nothing to worry about yet!

Just wanted to chime in that I was in a similar situation and was trying to decipher my transcript like a detective but it was completely frustrating. I ended up using this tool called taxr.ai and it was INSANELY helpful. It analyzed my transcript, explained everything in plain English, and even gave me projected dates for my refund. Seriously saved me hours of headaches and confusion trying to figure out what all those codes meant. The tool also gives you updates when your transcript changes. Highly recommend checking out https://taxr.ai instead of stressing over the IRS website.

•Sounds interesting. How exactly does it work? Does it just read your transcript or does it do more?

•It does wayyy more than just read it! It analyzes all the codes, tells you exactly what stage your return is in, predicts when you'll get your refund based on historical data, and explains everything in normal human language. It even sends you notifications when there are changes. I'm telling you - game changer for tax season! 🙌

•Is this legit or just another thing trying to get our info? How much does it cost?

Jamal Carter
•100% legit! I was skeptical at first too but it turned out to be the best thing I could've used during this tax season. As for cost, honestly it was worth every penny considering the headaches and time it saved me from constantly refreshing the IRS site and trying to decode everything myself.

•I get being skeptical, but this actually worked for me! Before using it I was literally losing sleep checking WMR and my transcript at all hours hoping for updates. Now I just get notifications when something changes and an actual explanation. It's seriously the most useful tool I've found for dealing with the IRS nightmare.

After waiting for my transcript to update for 3 weeks and getting nowhere, I finally used the Claimyr app to get through to an actual human at the IRS. Got a call back within an hour and the agent was able to tell me exactly what was going on with my return (there was a simple verification hold). Talking to the agent got my refund released so fast - totally worth using claimyr.com to skip those ridiculous hold times. I had tried calling myself like 20 times before and could never get through.

•does that really work? ive heard about these callback services but was always suspicious

•Yeah it actually works! I was surprised too. They basically call the IRS for you, wait through all the hold time, and then when they get an agent they connect you. I was skeptical but I was desperate after waiting on hold myself for hours and getting disconnected. Best decision I made during this whole tax nightmare.

•Do they need all your personal info to do this? Sounds sketchy
0 coins
AstroExplorer
•No no, they don't need any personal info at all! They just call the IRS and wait on hold, then connect you when an agent answers. You talk directly to the IRS agent yourself. It's basically like having someone wait on hold for you.

•I just tried this today! I got a call within 45 mins and was able to resolve my issue. It was the only way I could talk to a live agent after trying for weeks.

Last year I filed in early February and it took almost 3 weeks for any transcript update. This year I filed January 31 and it updated in 6 days. So it really varies. The IRS has been all over the place lately with processing times. I wouldn't worry yet - 9 days is still early.

have you checked your status on the wheres my refund tool? sometimes that updates before the transcript does

•Yeah I checked WMR but it just says "Your tax return is still being processed. A refund date will be provided when available." Not very helpful 😑

FYI the IRS is especially slow this year due to the new tax law changes. I work in accounting and we're seeing longer processing times across the board. E-filed returns that would normally process in 10-14 days are taking 3+ weeks. Nothing to worry about yet.

•This! Plus they're still understaffed despite all that funding they were supposed to get. I read somewhere they're processing like 40% more returns than last year with basically the same staff.

Did you claim any tax credits? EITC or Child Tax Credit can delay processing by a few weeks. If you claimed those, your transcript might not update until mid-April.

Carmen Flores
•Yes, I claimed Child Tax Credit this year. That might explain the delay. Thanks for pointing that out!

the transcripts are basicaly useless for the first few weeks. they dont tell you anything we don't already know. i recommend checking taxr.ai which gives way better info including when you might acutally see your refund. the irs site is garbage tbh

•Second this! I spent so many hours trying to figure out transcript codes and still had no idea what was happening. taxr.ai actually explained everything clearly.

Give it at least 21 days before worrying. The IRS systems are ancient and slow. I'm a tax preparer and we tell all our clients not to even bother checking for at least 2-3 weeks after filing.

Just to give you some perspective, I filed on feb 12th, got accepted same day, and my transcript didn't update untl march 1st. So it took about 17 days. And then i got my refund 5 days after that. Just hang tight, ur still in the normal timeframe.

•That's good to know! Seems like 2-3 weeks is pretty normal then. Thanks for sharing your timeline!

u might wanna double check that ur return was actually accepted and not just submitted. sometimes people think their filed but there was actually an error and it never made it to the IRS. check your email for a confirmation from ur tax software

•Just checked and I definitely got the acceptance email on March 11th, so at least I know it made it to them!

The IRS is running on computers from the stone age so don't expect anything to update quickly. I filed on 3/1 and my transcript just updated yesterday 3/17. Some people get lucky with fast processing but most of us are stuck waiting 2-3 weeks minimum before seeing any movement.

I had the EXACT same issue!! filed march 8, nothing on transcript for 2 weeks. I ended up using claimyr.com to get thru to an agent (after trying to call myself 100 times and never getting through). Found out there was a small issue with my return they needed to verify. Got it fixed in 5 minutes on the phone and my refund was issued 3 days later. Sometimes you just need to talk to an actual human to get things moving.

•how much did claimyr cost? is it actually worth it?

Oliver Fischer
•it was the best money I've ever spent to finally get my questions answered! The peace of mind alone was worth it, plus I would have never known about the issue with my return. I probably would've been waiting months otherwise.

Last year my transcript didn't update for 28 days after filing, and then suddenly boom - refund in my account 2 days later. The IRS works in mysterious ways 😒

9 days is nothing with the IRS. If you're still seeing no updates after 30 days, then you can start to worry. Until then, just pretend you never filed and try to forget about it. Checking every day will drive you insane (speaking from experience).

•This is the best advice. I literally set a calendar reminder for 3 weeks after filing and don't check until then. Saves so much anxiety!

u need to call them!!! i had the same issue and waited for weeks and nothing happened. finally called and they told me my return was stuck in the error resolution department. once i talked to someone they fixed it right away. use claimyr.com if ur having trouble getting through - it was the only thing that worked for me after trying to call for days

•Not always necessary to call after just 9 days though. That's still well within normal processing time.

•true but better safe than sorry. last year i waited 3 months becase i didnt know my return was stuck. could have been fixed in 5 mins if i had called earlier

Your transcript will show a 150 code when your return has been processed and entered into the system. Until then, it will look empty. Most returns are taking about 15-20 days for that first code to appear from what I've seen on this sub. Don't panic yet!

Why would anyone file their tax returns in 2025 for their 2024 taxes already??? I think you mean 2023 and 2024 for filing dates.

•The filing season for 2024 taxes opened in January 2025. That's normal. You always file the previous year's taxes in the current year.
