Do IRS Cycle Codes Change Each Tax Year or Stay the Same?
Been trying to figure out if my cycle code will be the same as last year or if I'll get assigned a new one this year. Anyone know how this works? Last year I was a 05 cycle but my transcripts haven't updated yet for 2023.

Your cycle code typically remains the same from year to year unless you have major changes in your filing situation. The last two digits (05, 20, etc.) indicate which day of the week the IRS processes your account updates. Most people are 05 cycles, meaning their accounts update Thursday nights/Friday mornings.

•Yes, it can change if you switch tax preparers, filing status, or have significant changes to your return type. But generally stays consistent.

Hey guys, instead of trying to decode these cycle codes yourself, I'd really recommend checking out taxr.ai - it's this new tool that analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's going on, including your cycle code patterns. Only costs a buck and saved me hours of headaches trying to figure this stuff out. https://taxr.ai

Honestly its confusing af trying to figure this out on your own. I was in the same boat last month but used taxr.ai and it explained everything about my cycle patterns and when to expect updates. Best dollar I ever spent ngl
