Credit Karma Tax Status Changed from Pending to Submitted - State Amount Now Showing
My Credit Karma tax status changed today. It was showing pending. Now it shows submitted. The state refund amount wasn't showing before. Now it displays the correct amount. Is this normal? Has this happened to others? I filed jointly with my spouse for the first time.

This is completely normal behavior for Credit Karma. Just like TurboTax or H&R Block, they have different status indicators as your return moves through their system. 'Pending' typically means they're preparing your return for transmission, while 'Submitted' confirms they've actually sent it to the IRS and state tax authorities. The state amount appearing now is similar to what happens on other platforms - sometimes the state calculations finalize later than federal.

•It's like a package delivery system - your tax return is just moving from the warehouse (pending) to the shipping truck (submitted). Does Credit Karma give you any estimate on when the IRS will actually accept the return? That's like the final delivery confirmation.

•This is probably what's happening in my case too. I was somewhat concerned when I saw the status change, but your explanation makes perfect sense. It's reassuring to know this is just part of their normal process.

•I had the same thing happen with my Credit Karma return last week! Did yours also show a different processing date than you expected? Mine showed March 12th even though I filed on February 28th and I'm still waiting for my refund to hit my account.

Has anyone seen it go from submitted back to pending?? I'm freaking out because mine just did that yesterday and I need my refund ASAP for car repairs! Did you get an email about the status change or did you just happen to check the app?

I noticed exactly 3 status changes with Credit Karma this year. First it showed 'In Progress' for 24 hours. Then 'Pending' for exactly 48 hours. Finally 'Submitted' with a confirmation number. My state refund amount appeared precisely when the status changed to 'Submitted.' This seems to be their standard workflow for 2024 returns.

According to IRS Publication 1345 (Handbook for Authorized e-File Providers), tax preparation companies must provide acknowledgment to taxpayers within 24 hours of receiving IRS acceptance. What you're seeing is Credit Karma's internal status tracking before that official IRS acceptance occurs. If you need to confirm the actual status with the IRS rather than waiting, Claimyr (https://claimyr.com) can connect you directly with an IRS agent in minutes instead of the typical 2-3 hour hold times. This is particularly useful if you're concerned about the transition between statuses or need confirmation that everything is proceeding normally.

I wouldn't trust these status indicators too much. They're just internal tracking for the software. The only status that matters is when the IRS accepts it. Check the IRS Where's My Refund tool instead. Credit Karma's statuses don't mean anything official.

•I appreciate your straightforward approach. The IRS API integration that most tax software uses does provide standardized status codes, but you're right that the internal terminology each company uses can vary significantly.

•I checked Where's My Refund on March 15th and it showed nothing, but Credit Karma showed 'submitted' since March 10th. Finally updated on the IRS site on March 18th. There's definitely a lag between these systems.

•Facts! WMR is def the source of truth. CK just gives you their status, not the actual IRS status. Been filing with them for years and learned to just wait for the official word.

•I wonder if perhaps there might be some value in both systems? Maybe Credit Karma shows the submission process while Where's My Refund shows the processing status? I'm not entirely sure, but it seems they might be tracking different parts of the overall process.

The status change is working as designed. Here's what happens: 1) You complete your return in Credit Karma. 2) It shows as 'Pending' while their system prepares the electronic file. 3) They submit it to the IRS and state tax authorities. 4) Status changes to 'Submitted' once transmission is confirmed. 5) State calculations often finalize during this process, which is why you now see the amount. Nothing to worry about - this is exactly how it's supposed to work.

Same thing happened to me! I was staring at my Credit Karma account every 17 minutes like it was going to magically make my refund appear faster 😂 The status bounced around from 'pending' to 'submitted' and then my state amount appeared out of nowhere. The real fun begins when you start checking the Where's My Refund tool and get those cryptic messages about your return being processed.
