Clean Vehicle Tax Credit Notice & Transcript Confusion - Need Help Understanding Next Steps
Got a notice on Jan 6 about my tax return, but there's nothing showing online about verification. I bought a hybrid car in July and was told the dealer would handle the clean vehicle credit, but now I know I need to file it myself. My transcripts look normal except for another notice being issued. Should I wait for my regular refund to process then amend for the vehicle credit? Just need to know if my transcript looks ok besides that.

Tax professional here. For the Clean Vehicle Credit, you absolutely need to file Form 8936 with your tax return. The dealer doesn't file this for you - they only report the sale. If you've already filed without it, you'll need to wait until your original return processes then file an amendment (Form 1040-X) to claim the credit. Your transcript showing a notice issuance is normal - it's likely just confirming your original filing.
