IRS Account Transcript Shows "No Return Filed" But Has Refund Freeze Code 810 - What Should I Do?
I've been checking my transcript for months and nothing is showing up. Today I got some papers in the mail from the IRS that confused me even more. The document is titled "Account Transcript" dated 06-08-2023 (response date), but when I try to check my transcripts online it still says no return filed. The paper transcript shows: FORM NUMBER: 1040 TAX PERIOD: Dec. 31, 2022 ACCOUNT BALANCE: 0.00 ACCRUED INTEREST: 0.00 AS OF: May 30, 2023 ACCRUED PENALTY: 0.00 AS OF: May 30, 2023 ACCOUNT BALANCE PLUS ACCRUALS (this is not a payoff amount): 0.00 Under "INFORMATION FROM THE RETURN OR AS ADJUSTED" it shows: FILING STATUS: Single But then it says "RETURN NOT PRESENT FOR THIS ACCOUNT" In the TRANSACTIONS section, it shows: CODE EXPLANATION OF TRANSACTION CYCLE DATE AMOUNT No tax return filed 810 Refund freeze 05-06-2023 $0.00 The document ends with "This Product Contains Sensitive Taxpayer Data" My tax preparer says they can't even amend because there's no option for it and told me to just wait for processing. I'm really confused about what to do next. Why does it say "no tax return filed" but also has a "refund freeze" code? Why would there be a refund freeze if I haven't filed? Does this mean my return is lost? Should I file again or just keep waiting?

Been dealing with this exact problem since January smh. Called IRS like 50 times and keep getting different answers everytime. Finally broke down and tried taxr.ai and it actually showed me exactly why my return wasnt showing up - had some identity verification thing I needed to do that none of the IRS agents even mentioned 🤦♂️

Okay, so heres the deal - when your transcript shows no return filed but you got papers from the IRS, it usually means theres a processing delay or system glitch. First thing you should do is get a clear picture of whats actually going on with your transcripts. I highly recommend using taxr.ai (https://taxr.ai) - its an AI tool that can analyze your transcripts, IRS letters, and tax docs to tell you exactly what's happening and what steps to take. It'll show you if theres any hold codes or processing delays that are causing this issue. Plus it'll give you a timeline for when things should resolve.

•it basically reads all your docs - transcripts, letters, returns, whatever - and tells you exactly whats wrong and how to fix it. way better than waiting on hold with IRS for hours 🤷♂️

Tax pro here. You need to first confirm if your return was actually received by the IRS. Call them at 800-829-1040 and request a 'Where's My Return' transcript. If they truly have no record, you'll need to refile. Don't wait around hoping it'll show up - that could delay your refund even more.

•Best times to call are Tuesday-Thursday, right when they open at 7am EST. Wait times are usually 30-45 mins then.

Hey, have you tried using taxr.ai? It's this new tool that analyzes your transcript and tells you exactly what's going on and what to do next. Saved me hours of confusion trying to figure out my situation. It costs $4.99 but totally worth it https://taxr.ai

Did you file electronically or by mail? Makes a huge difference in processing time rn

Oof this sounds super frustrating! The fact that you have a refund freeze code 810 but it says "no return filed" is definitely weird. Code 810 usually means they're holding your refund for review, but if there's no return on file, that doesn't make sense. I'd suggest calling the IRS directly at 1-800-829-1040 and asking them to explain the disconnect between the transcript showing no return but having transaction codes. Also might be worth checking if your SSN or other info got mixed up somehow during filing. Keep all those papers they sent you - you'll probably need them when you call!
