Bank rejected my direct deposit refund - How long for IRS to mail paper check?
My refund was approved for direct deposit April 5 but my bank rejected it and sent it back to IRS. Now im waiting on a paper check. Anyone know the typical wait time for them to mail it out after a rejected direct deposit? Getting anxious since I really need this money.

Generally takes 4-6 weeks after a rejected direct deposit for IRS to process and mail a paper check. They have to verify the return of funds and update your info in their system before issuing the check. Check your transcript for code 841 which means they've initiated the paper check process.

Called IRS today about this exact issue. They said 6-8 weeks is standard procedure after a rejected DD. The rep told me they're actually moving pretty quick on these rn tho

Had this happen to me last year - took exactly 5 weeks from the rejection date to get my paper check. The most frustrating part is there's really no way to speed it up, you just have to wait for their system to process it.
