As-of Date Stuck at 2/17/25 on Transcript - Cycle 05 - Should I Be Concerned?

I've been checking my transcript daily and noticed my as-of date hasn't budged from 2/17/25 since the last update. I'm a cycle 05 filer with all the normal processing codes showing up. Should I be worried that nothing's changed? We're newly married and filed jointly for the first time, so I'm not sure if this is typical or if there's an issue with our return. The waiting is driving me crazy!

No need to worry yet. The as-of date staying at 2/17 is actually normal for cycle 05 filers right now. It doesn't mean processing has stopped. Your cycle code (05) means your account updates on Thursdays, but the as-of date doesn't always change with each update. What's important is whether you see any freeze codes (570) or notice issued codes (971) that weren't there before. If all codes look normal, your return is likely still in standard processing.

So if ur a cycle 05, that means it only updates on Thursdays? My transcript has the same issue but I'm not sure what cycle I am. How do u even find that out?

The Transaction Cycle Code appears on your account transcript as an 8-digit number where the 5th and 6th digits indicate your cycle. For example, if you see 20241105 on your transcript, the '05' means you're a cycle 05 filer who updates on Thursdays. Most e-filers get assigned to cycle 05 during peak filing season.

Do you have any refundable credits on your return? Child Tax Credit or Earned Income Credit? Those take longer to process compared to returns without credits. I've seen dozens of cases where the as-of date stayed the same for 3-4 weeks for married couples with credits, while single filers with simple returns had their dates change weekly.

I'm not the OP, but I think I might be in a similar situation? We claimed the Child Tax Credit for our daughter, and our as-of date hasn't changed in about 3 weeks now. Would that possibly explain the delay?

According to the IRS Processing Delays page (https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/irs-operations), they're still working through a backlog from earlier this year. The IRS Where's My Refund tool is showing standard 21-day processing times for electronic returns, but the actual timeframes I'm seeing in the forums are closer to 30-45 days for married filing jointly returns with typical deductions. The system is definitely slower than what they're officially stating.

Isn't it ridiculous how they keep saying 21 days when practically no one is getting their refund that quickly? Why not just be honest about the actual timeframes instead of making everyone panic when it takes longer?

I've analyzed the timing patterns from data shared in this forum and elsewhere: • Simple returns (single, no credits): ~18-24 days • Joint returns with standard deductions: ~24-32 days • Returns with refundable credits: ~30-45 days • Returns with amended status: 45+ days The IRS's 21-day estimate is technically accurate for only the simplest returns.

Oh my god, I went through EXACTLY this last month with my transcript! Same cycle, same frozen as-of date. I was so frustrated I tried calling the IRS for 3 days straight - busy signals or 2+ hour wait times. Finally used Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c) and got through to an agent in about 15 minutes. Turns out my return was just in normal processing, nothing wrong at all! The agent explained that the as-of date often freezes during routine verification steps. My transcript updated 4 days later and I got my refund the following week. Saved me so much stress knowing nothing was wrong!

Claimyr just connects you to the same IRS agents. You can do this yourself for free if you're patient and call at the right times. Early morning Tuesday-Thursday tends to have shorter wait times.

I appreciate you sharing this! I've been worried about calling the IRS because I don't want to waste hours on hold. Did the agent actually have helpful information beyond what you could see online?

Have you checked if your Where's My Refund status matches what your transcript is showing? Sometimes they don't sync up properly. Also, did you file electronically or by paper? Paper returns are taking significantly longer this year, with some people waiting 8-12 weeks for updates.

The as-of date on your transcript actually represents when the IRS computer system will take its next scheduled action on your account, not necessarily when it last processed something. Here's how to interpret your situation: 1. First, verify you're looking at your 2024 Account Transcript (not Return or Record of Account) 2. Check for a TC 150 code (tax return filed) 3. Look for processing codes 570 (refund hold) or 971 (notice issued) 4. If you don't see those, but see code 150, your return is in normal processing 5. Cycle 05 accounts update overnight on Thursdays, so check again tomorrow morning The as-of date often remains static during standard processing.

According to IRS Publication 2043 and Internal Revenue Manual 21.4.1, the as-of date on transcripts is primarily used for interest calculations and can remain unchanged during normal processing. Per IRS procedures, cycle 05 accounts (Thursday updates) typically see significant movement in weeks 3-5 after acceptance. The current processing timeframe for returns filed in Q1 2025 is approximately 21-28 days for error-free returns without refundable credits, and 28-45 days for returns with refundable credits or that require additional verification.
