Anyone Still Stuck in PATH Act Processing on WMR?

My tax refund is moving like a sloth in molasses. I filed on February 2nd claiming EIC and CTC, so I know I'm caught in the PATH Act verification web. The Where's My Refund tool still shows that first processing bar, like a progress meter that's forgotten how to progress. My business inventory depends on this refund - I'm like a farmer waiting for rain in a drought. Has anyone else who filed early with credits actually seen movement yet? What's your timeline looking like? I've checked transcripts, called the IRS twice, and even consulted the magic 8-ball at this point.

Ya, still stuck in PATH purgatory here too. Filed Jan 29th w/ EITC and CTC. WMR still on 1st bar, no updates on transcript except N/A for 2024. IRS site says PATH holds are supposed to be released by Feb 27th-ish but clearly that's not happening for everyone. Probs gonna be waiting another 2-3 wks tbh. The PATH Act is like tax season's version of a traffic jam - everybody stuck and nobody moving. Thx for posting, at least we're not alone in this!

Just to clarify some technical details: The PATH Act mandates additional verification procedures for returns claiming EITC and ACTC. While the IRS generally begins releasing these returns after February 15th, the actual release date varies based on verification queue status and staffing allocations. What we're seeing this year is an extended verification period due to increased fraud prevention measures implemented in the Fraud Detection System (FDS) and Return Review Program (RRP).

I've been researching this PATH Act situation for weeks now and I'm still confused about something. Last year when I was stuck in PATH, my bars disappeared completely from WMR after 21 days. This year they're still there. Does that mean anything different about our processing status? I thought I understood how this worked but every year seems to have different patterns!

I was stuck in PATH Act processing for exactly 42 days last year. This year I filed on January 31st with EITC and received my refund on March 14th - exactly 43 days later. What worked for me was checking my transcript instead of WMR. My transcript updated with an 846 code (refund issued) 5 days before WMR showed any movement. I'm so relieved this waiting game is finally over for me. Try checking your transcript daily - it's much more reliable than WMR.

Can you walk us through how you check your transcript? I've heard this advice before but I'm not sure I'm looking at the right thing. Do you get the Account Transcript or the Return Transcript? And which specific codes should we be looking for that indicate progress?

I finally got my PATH Act refund yesterday! Filed January 29th with EITC. Here's what happened: WMR showed one bar for 5 weeks straight. Then suddenly updated to approved last Friday, deposit hit my account Monday. What's strange is I never saw the second bar at all. Did anyone else experience that? Did you receive any 971 notices in your mailbox? I'm wondering if the verification process is different this year.

Oh my goodness, I was STUCK in PATH Act processing for so long!!! 😩 Filed February 1st and just got my refund yesterday. I was getting so worried because I needed that money! What finally worked was calling the IRS using Claimyr (https://youtu.be/_kiP6q8DX5c). Instead of waiting on hold for HOURS, I got through to a real person in like 20 minutes!!! The agent told me my return had been selected for random review but was actually approved 2 days earlier - WMR just hadn't updated yet! Worth every penny to finally get answers! 💯

I'm not sure about paying for a service just to talk to the IRS... Do you think it's really necessary? I might try calling early morning first before spending money on this. How much does it cost, if you don't mind me asking?

Did you have to provide any personal information to Claimyr? I tried calling the IRS on March 12th and again on March 15th but couldn't get through after waiting over an hour each time. Would definitely consider this if it works as well as you say.

It might be worth checking if you're actually under PATH Act review or possibly experiencing a different delay. The PATH Act primarily affects returns with EITC and ACTC, but there are potentially other factors that could be slowing down your processing. Have you checked if your return has any other elements that might trigger additional review, such as perhaps self-employment income, education credits, or recovery rebate credit adjustments? Sometimes what appears to be a PATH Act delay is actually something else entirely.

I'm seeing the exact same pattern as last year. Filed February 2nd with EITC, transcript showed N/A for weeks, then suddenly on March 10th my transcript updated with codes 570 and 971 dated March 18th. Last year when this happened, I received a letter requesting verification of my dependents about a week later. After I sent the documentation, it took another 3 weeks to get my refund. The technical term for this is 'manual review' and it's much more common with PATH Act returns. Check your transcript for these hold codes.

I've been through this process multiple times and I'm skeptical that the standard advice works in all cases. According to Internal Revenue Manual 21.5.6.4.7, PATH Act returns with certain DDb scores trigger mandatory verification procedures that cannot be expedited through normal channels. In my experience, even reaching an agent doesn't accelerate this process as they're bound by the same procedural requirements outlined in IRM 25.25.3.1 regarding refund holds.

For anyone still waiting on PATH Act processing, here's what I've learned from 3 years of this: • Check transcripts NOT WMR - transcripts update first • Early February is when most PATH releases happen • Look for Transaction Code 846 - that's your refund date • Bars disappearing on WMR is NORMAL • Code 570 means temporary hold • Don't panic if you get code 971 - often just a notice I'm down to the wire on some bills that need paying ASAP! Anyone know if the PATH Act processing is faster or slower this year compared to 2023?
