DEO says I'm losing my last 2 weeks of June benefits because quarter ended - need help!
Beyond frustrated right now! I just got off a call with DEO about my missing weeks. I was supposed to claim my last 2 weeks of June on July 2nd, but when I logged into CONNECT, those weeks weren't available to claim! The agent just told me that because we're in a new quarter, I have to reapply completely, and I FORFEIT those two weeks from June that I was eligible for!!! Is this actually correct??? I worked those weeks in June and was eligible for benefits but now I'm being told I lose approximately $550 because the quarter changed over? This can't be right - has anyone dealt with this quarterly changeover issue before? I'm a single parent and that money was budgeted for bills already. 😞

Unfortunately, this is something that happens with quarter changes. When a quarter ends, DEO requires many claimants to reapply if they've worked since their original application. It's called the "quarterly review" and it's a Florida law thing, not just DEO being difficult. BUT - you shouldn't automatically lose those weeks. You should be able to claim them retroactively after your new application is processed and approved. Did the agent specifically say you CANNOT claim them retroactively even after approval?

•The agent specifically told me "those weeks are gone" and that I can't claim them even after my new application is approved. She said it's because they were in the previous quarter and my new application starts in the current quarter. Is she wrong??? Should I call back and try to get a different agent?

OMG this just happened to me last quarter!!! I lost almost $800 because no one told me I needed to claim before the quarter ended. I kept calling and calling but they just kept saying "sorry that's policy" and I couldn't do anything about it. The system is RIGGED to make us lose benefits we deserve. Why don't they warn people this will happen???

•THIS!! The DEO system is literally designed to make people miss out on benefits. They don't send notifications about quarter changes, they don't explain the rules clearly, and then they act like it's YOUR fault when you miss weeks. I've been dealing with Florida unemployment on and off for years and it ALWAYS has these "gotcha" situations that cost real people real money. It's disgusting.

wait hold up.... so are we supposed to somehow KNOW when quarters change? like how was i supposed to know this would happen? my claim date isn't even close to a quarter change. this seems crazy unfair.

•The quarters are standard calendar quarters: Jan-Mar, Apr-Jun, Jul-Sep, Oct-Dec. The issue happens when you have to claim weeks that fall in a previous quarter after the new quarter has already started. Most people don't run into this problem unless they're claiming right at the quarter boundary (like claiming June weeks in early July).

Something isnt right here... I had this exact situation in April when the quarter changed from Q1 to Q2. I had to reapply due to the quarter change, but after my new application was approved, I was able to go back and claim my missing weeks from March. Try calling again - you might have gotten an agent who doesn't know the full policy. Getting accurate info from DEO is like playing the lottery sometimes!!!

•Really?? That gives me hope! Did you have to do anything special to get those retroactive weeks, or did they just show up after your new application was approved?

•They didn't just appear - I had to specifically ask for them when I called after my new application was approved. The first agent I talked to also told me they were "gone" but I kept calling until I got someone who knew how to help. Don't give up!

I feel for you! Lost two weeks myself last year when this happened. The DEO agent just said "sorry bout your luck!" and hung up. Florida hates giving people their unemployment money!!

After dealing with DEO for months, I finally found a way to get through to knowledgeable agents who can actually help with these kinds of issues. I was in the same boat - missing weeks during a quarter change that I thought were gone forever. I discovered this service called Claimyr (claimyr.com) that gets you connected to a DEO agent in minutes instead of spending days trying to get through. Totally worth it - they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj The key is getting to an agent who actually knows how to handle quarter change issues. Not all agents know how to process retroactive weeks after a quarter change, but the more experienced ones definitely can do it.

•Thank you for this! I'll check it out because I've been trying to call back all day and just getting the automated message saying call volume is too high. At this point I'd try anything to get those weeks back.

DEO agent here. I can clarify this situation for everyone: 1. When quarters change, many claimants need to file a new application to determine continued eligibility - this is required by Florida law, not DEO policy. 2. However, weeks that were AVAILABLE TO CLAIM during the previous quarter that you were eligible for but didn't claim (for whatever reason) CAN be requested retroactively. This requires a supervisor override in most cases. 3. The confusion happens because regular agents often aren't trained on how to process these retroactive claims across quarter boundaries. It requires a specific process in the CONNECT system. 4. What you need to do: First, complete your new quarterly application. Once approved, call and specifically request to speak with a supervisor about "retroactive certification for eligible weeks from the previous quarter." Be persistent. 5. Make sure you have documentation showing why you were unable to claim those weeks on time (if applicable). Hope this helps clarify the situation!

•THANK YOU for this detailed explanation! This is exactly what I needed to know. I'll file my new quarterly application today and then follow up about the retroactive weeks once it's approved. I really appreciate the specific terminology to use - that's super helpful.

•Why don't they train all the agents on this?? I was told the EXACT OPPOSITE when this happened to me and lost all my money!!! This makes me so mad!!!

Just an update for anyone who might face this issue in the future - the key details from this thread: 1. Quarter changes (end of March, June, September, December) can affect your ability to claim weeks 2. If you need to claim weeks from a previous quarter after a new quarter has started, you should: - Complete your new quarterly application first - After approval, call DEO and ask for a supervisor - Request "retroactive certification for eligible weeks from the previous quarter" - Be prepared to explain why you couldn't claim on time 3. Regular agents often don't know how to handle this situation, so supervisor involvement is crucial 4. Document everything - dates, times, names of representatives Hope this helps someone avoid losing their benefits!

•Thank you for this summary! I'll update once I get this resolved to let everyone know how it went and if I was able to get those weeks back.
