DEO eligibility issue after claiming weeks - determination says 'not eligible' for payment

I'm freaking out right now! I just claimed my weeks on CONNECT yesterday, and instead of showing my payment was processed, I got this weird message saying there's an "eligibility issue that was resolved with a determination that you are not eligible to receive a benefit payment for the week claimed or there is an unresolved eligibility issue related to the week claimed." But I don't understand why!!! I did my 5 work searches each week like I'm supposed to. I haven't earned any income. I've been looking for jobs literally every day. My claim status still shows as "Active" but I can't figure out WHAT eligibility issue they're talking about. There's nothing in my inbox about a determination letter, and the Determination & Pending Issue Status page doesn't show anything new. Has anyone dealt with this before? Do I need to call them? (Ugh, I've tried calling 6 times already today and can't get through). Is there a way to see what this mysterious "eligibility issue" is without talking to a human??

This happens a lot with DEO. There are several possible reasons for this message: 1. You might have answered one of the claim certification questions in a way that triggered an automatic denial (like saying you weren't available for work or refused a job offer) 2. There could be a wage discrepancy that DEO detected with your former employer 3. Sometimes there's an ID verification issue that wasn't properly cleared 4. If you recently started a new claim after exhausting benefits, there might be a quarterly wage review issue You should check your Determination & Pending Issue Status page carefully - sometimes the issues are listed with old dates but are actually new. Also check your Monetary Status page to make sure everything looks normal there. Unfortunately, you'll likely need to speak with a DEO agent to resolve this. The CONNECT system is notoriously bad at displaying the actual reason for claim problems.

Thank you! I checked the Monetary Status page and everything looks normal there - shows my weekly benefit amount and the remaining balance correctly. But there's nothing on the Determination page - it just shows old issues from when I first applied that were already resolved months ago! I definitely answered all the questions correctly (I triple-check them every time). I've been claiming for about 3 months now without any problems until this week. Guess I have no choice but to somehow get through to a human being at DEO... 😭

The EXACT same thing happened to me last month!! The message about "eligibility issue that was resolved with determination" is super misleading because it sounds like something was already fixed but actually means something is WRONG. In my case it was because my former employer contested my claim (4 MONTHS after I was approved!!!) saying I quit voluntarily when I was actually laid off. The stupid thing is that DEO never notified me about this - no email, no message in CONNECT, nothing in my determination page. I spent THREE WEEKS trying to get through on the phone before I finally reached someone who could tell me what was going on. By then they'd already stopped my payments for almost a month and I had to file an appeal. The DEO system is BROKEN and designed to make people give up. Don't let them win!!

omg this is my biggest fear... my employer was super shady when they let me go (claimed "restructuring" but then hired someone new for my exact position a week later). how long did your appeal take? did u have to hire a lawyer??

0 coins

My appeal took about 5 weeks total from filing to decision. I didn't hire a lawyer but I wish I had. The hearing was intimidating and my former employer had their HR person AND a lawyer on the call! I won my appeal but only because I had saved emails proving they eliminated my position. If you're going through this, DOCUMENT EVERYTHING from your employer!!

I've seen this before and it's often one of two things: 1) A work search verification issue - DEO randomly selects people to verify their work searches. If they selected you and there was a problem with your verification, this can happen. 2) A quarterly wage review - Every quarter, DEO checks if you earned wages that weren't reported while claiming. Even small unreported income can trigger this. You absolutely need to speak with a DEO agent. The frustrating part is that regular DEO phone lines are nearly impossible to get through. After trying for weeks, I found a service called Claimyr that got me connected to a DEO agent in about 20 minutes. Their website is claimyr.com and they have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj It was the only way I could finally get my issue resolved. The DEO agent told me exactly what the problem was (in my case, my former employer had filed wage information late which triggered a review).

I tried calling DEO 23 times in one day before I used Claimyr too!!! Best $20 I ever spent after being on hold for literally HOURS over multiple days. The DEO agent I spoke with said they're averaging over 12,000 calls daily right now with only like 200 agents. No wonder nobody can get through the normal way.

Thanks for the suggestion! I think I've heard of Claimyr before. Did they actually help you get your issue fixed the same day? I'm worried that even if I get through to someone, they'll just tell me to wait for some letter or something.

0 coins

Yes, they got my issue fixed the same day. The key is that once you get through to a real DEO agent (not just the front-line people), they can see exactly what's blocking your claim in their system. In my case, the agent immediately identified the issue and cleared it while I was on the phone. My payment was processed the next day. Just make sure you have your claimant ID and all your info ready when they connect you.

u might want to check if u accidentally said u earned income when claiming. i once typo'd and entered $10 when i meant to put $0 and it froze my whole claim for 3 weeks lol. if u have a determination letter somewhere it should tell u the reason but finding those stupid letters in connect is like a treasure hunt

I double checked and definitely put $0 for income. And I can't find ANY determination letter anywhere in the system - that's what's driving me crazy! There's nothing in my inbox or on the determination page that explains this.

This is so typical of DEO. They just LOVE to deny people for mysterious reasons without explaining anything. I bet if you eventually get through to someone, they'll claim they "sent you a letter" that magically never arrived. I've been dealing with Florida unemployment on and off for years and it's always the same story - they make the system as confusing as possible hoping people will just give up. I wouldn't be surprised if this was just a glitch in their system too. CONNECT is infamous for randomly glitching out and showing incorrect statuses. Sometimes claiming again next time fixes these random issues.

Have you verified that all your claim information in CONNECT is still correct? Sometimes if your contact info or bank account details change in the system (even due to a glitch), it can trigger payment holds. Also, check your payment method status - if you're using direct deposit, sometimes banks reject payments if the account numbers don't match perfectly. Lastly, if you recently hit your benefit year end date, the system sometimes automatically reviews eligibility even if you have funds remaining. Check your claim status page to see if your benefit year end date has passed.

All my info is correct - I just verified my banking info and address. And my benefit year doesn't end until September 2025, so that's not it either. This is so frustrating! I'm going to try to get through on the phone tomorrow morning right when they open. Hopefully that works better than calling midday.

Just wanted to follow up - were you able to resolve this issue? If you're still having trouble getting through to DEO, seriously consider using a service to connect you. When I had a similar problem, I wasted over a week trying to get through on my own before using a connection service. Also, check if your local CareerSource office can help. Sometimes they have direct lines to DEO and can assist with basic claim issues or at least tell you what's going on with your claim.

I FINALLY got it resolved today! After trying for days to call DEO with no luck, I broke down and used Claimyr this morning. Got connected to an agent in about 15 minutes. Turns out there was a "fact-finding" request that never showed up in my CONNECT inbox! The agent said it was a system glitch where their fact-finding questionnaire was sent but didn't appear in my inbox. She was able to reset it and I completed it while on the phone with her. It was about my work searches - they were doing a random audit but I had no way of knowing. The agent said this happens a lot where these requests don't properly appear in claimants' inboxes. My payment should process in 24-48 hours now! Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions!

This is EXACTLY the kind of nonsense I was talking about! How are we supposed to respond to things we can't even see?? So glad you got it resolved but it's ridiculous you had to go through all that. At least you'll get your money now!

Classic DEO... blame the claimant for not responding to something they never sent properly. Glad you got it fixed though!

Oh wow, this is such a relief to read! I'm dealing with something similar right now - got the same mysterious "eligibility issue" message after claiming my weeks and absolutely NO explanation anywhere in CONNECT. I've been panicking for the past two days thinking I did something wrong. Your experience with the fact-finding request that never showed up makes so much sense. The CONNECT system seems to have so many glitches like this where important notifications just disappear into the void. It's honestly criminal that they expect us to respond to things we can't even see! I'm definitely going to try calling DEO again tomorrow, but if that doesn't work I might have to bite the bullet and use a service like Claimyr too. $20 is definitely worth it if it means I can actually get answers and get my payments back on track. Thanks for updating us on how it got resolved - gives me hope that mine might be something simple like this too!

I'm so glad Amara's story helped give you some hope! I went through something very similar about 6 months ago - same mysterious eligibility message with zero explanation in CONNECT. Turned out to be a work search verification issue that I had no idea was even happening. The CONNECT system is honestly terrible at communicating with claimants. It's like they designed it to fail on purpose. Don't beat yourself up thinking you did something wrong - these glitches are incredibly common and usually have nothing to do with anything you actually did. If you do end up using a connection service, make sure you have all your documentation ready (work search logs, any correspondence, etc.) so you can answer questions quickly when you get connected to an agent. The faster you can provide info, the faster they can identify and fix the issue. Keep us posted on how it goes! This community is really helpful for navigating all the DEO nonsense.

This thread is so helpful! I've been lurking here for months dealing with my own DEO issues, and stories like this give me hope that there are actual solutions even when CONNECT makes everything seem impossible. What really gets me is how the system can just... lose important notifications like that fact-finding request. It makes you wonder how many people have had their claims denied simply because they never received something they were supposed to respond to. The whole "you didn't respond so you're ineligible" thing when the request never even showed up is infuriating. I'm bookmarking this thread for future reference. The tip about having all documentation ready when you finally get through to an agent is really smart - I never would have thought of that but it makes total sense that being prepared would help speed up the resolution. Thanks to everyone who shared their experiences here. It's reassuring to know that these mysterious "eligibility issues" usually have explanations (even if DEO makes it nearly impossible to find out what they are without jumping through hoops).

You're absolutely right about the system being designed to fail people! I've been dealing with DEO issues for over a year now and it's shocking how many people get denied or have payments stopped because of "phantom" notifications that never actually reach them. The fact that Amara had to pay $20 just to find out about a fact-finding request that should have been visible in her account is ridiculous. That should be illegal honestly - how can they hold people responsible for responding to things they can't see? I really think everyone dealing with DEO should document EVERYTHING and take screenshots of their CONNECT pages regularly. That way if they claim they sent you something you never received, you have proof of what was actually visible in your account. The system is so broken that you have to protect yourself from their own glitches. Thanks for mentioning the bookmarking idea - I'm doing the same thing. This community has been a lifesaver for navigating all the DEO chaos when their own system provides zero helpful information.

This whole thread is exactly why I tell everyone to save screenshots of EVERYTHING in CONNECT! The system has so many glitches and missing notifications that you really need to protect yourself with documentation. I had a similar issue last year where DEO claimed I didn't respond to an "identity verification request" that literally never appeared anywhere in my account. When I finally got through to someone (after weeks of trying), the agent admitted it was a known system bug where certain notifications weren't displaying properly for some users. What's really messed up is that they put the burden on us to somehow magically know about requests we can't see, then penalize us when we don't respond. It's like being expected to take a test you were never told was happening. For anyone going through this - don't give up! These "eligibility issues" almost always have simple explanations, but DEO makes it nearly impossible to find out what they are without speaking to an actual human. The connection services like Claimyr really are worth it when you're stuck in phone call hell for weeks. Also, once you do get it resolved, ask the agent to put notes in your file about what happened. Sometimes having that documentation helps prevent the same issue from happening again later.

This is such great advice about taking screenshots! I wish I had known this earlier in my unemployment journey. I've been dealing with DEO for about 8 months now and only recently started documenting everything after getting burned by their "we sent you something" claims when nothing ever showed up in my account. The identity verification bug you mentioned sounds infuriating - it's bad enough that the system has these glitches, but then they blame US for not responding to invisible requests? That's just cruel. I'm definitely going to start asking agents to put notes in my file when I get issues resolved. That's a really smart tip that I never would have thought of. It makes sense that having that documentation could prevent repeat problems, especially with how glitchy CONNECT is. Thanks for sharing your experience and the practical advice. This community has been such a lifeline for navigating all the DEO chaos when their own system leaves us completely in the dark about what's actually happening with our claims.

This entire thread perfectly captures the nightmare that is dealing with DEO! Reading through everyone's experiences, it's clear that CONNECT has serious systemic issues with notifications not appearing properly. What really bothers me is how this creates a two-tier system where people who can afford services like Claimyr get their issues resolved quickly, while those who can't are stuck in phone call hell for weeks or months. It shouldn't cost extra money just to access the unemployment benefits you're entitled to! I'm currently dealing with my own mysterious eligibility issue (different from OP's but equally frustrating) and this thread has convinced me to start taking daily screenshots of my CONNECT pages. The idea that they can claim they sent notifications that never actually appeared is terrifying - especially when your financial survival depends on these benefits. Thanks to everyone who shared their stories and solutions here. It's sad that we have to rely on community knowledge to navigate a system that should be straightforward, but I'm grateful this resource exists. DEO really needs to fix their notification system before more people get denied for "failing to respond" to invisible requests.

You hit the nail on the head about this creating a two-tier system! It's absolutely wrong that people have to pay extra just to access benefits they've already earned. The fact that DEO's phone system is so broken that third-party services are even necessary is a complete failure of government service. I've been following this community for a while now and the pattern is always the same - mysterious denials, invisible notifications, and weeks of trying to reach someone who can actually help. It's like they're counting on people giving up out of frustration. The screenshot advice is brilliant and something I wish I'd known from day one. I'm going to start doing daily documentation too because you're right - the idea of being denied for not responding to something that was never visible is absolutely terrifying when you're already struggling financially. This community really has become essential for surviving the DEO process. It's ridiculous that we have to crowdsource solutions to problems that shouldn't exist in the first place, but I'm so grateful people share their experiences here. Without threads like this, so many of us would be completely lost in the CONNECT maze.
