DEO benefit charging adjudication after being let go without explanation - normal wait time?

I just checked my DEO CONNECT account and noticed I have a 'pending issue awaiting adjudication' for something called 'Benefit Charging.' This appeared after I was suddenly laid off from my restaurant management position after 3 years with no warning, no write-ups, nothing. My GM just called me in and said they were 'going in a different direction' and that was it.\n\nDoes this 'Benefit Charging' issue mean my ex-employer is challenging my unemployment claim? I didn't do anything wrong - never had attendance issues, always got good reviews, and followed all company policies. The separation was completely out of the blue.\n\nIt's been 34 days since this issue appeared on my account. I've received zero communication from DEO about what's happening. My claim is stuck with no payments coming through. Is this timeline normal for these kinds of adjudication issues? Anyone gone through something similar recently?

YES this means your employer is fighting your claim!! They have to pay a portion of your benefits so of course they don't want to. Mine did the SAME EXACT THING last year - laid me off then claimed I was fired for cause which was complete BS. The \

Thanks for the information! That's frustrating to hear it might take almost 2 months. I'll start gathering my performance reviews and emails. I should have my last two performance reviews in my email somewhere. Do you know if they'll call me at some point or is everything just handled through the CONNECT inbox?

benefit charging is just the standard process where DEO determines which employer(s) will be charged for your benefits. doesnt always mean theyre fighting it. could just be routine verification especially if you had multiple jobs in the base period.

That's a bit reassuring. I did have a second job for about 2 months during my base period, but it was just part-time while I was still at my main job. Maybe that's complicating things?

I went through this exact situation in March.

Thank you for the detailed explanation! I've been checking CONNECT daily but haven't received any questionnaires yet. Is there any way to speed up the process or should I just continue waiting?

Had this EXACT thing happen 2 me back in january!!!! waited 6 weeks and nothing, calling DEO was IMPOSSIBLE. busy signals for days. finally used claimyr.com to get through to a agent (saw their video demo here https://youtu.be/UzW_hbUy-ss?si=zORd51jeq1GX5Ldj) and found out my employer said I was fired for excessive abscenes which was a LIE!! once I talked to someone and explained they expedited my case and i got approved 5 days later with all backpay. worth it just to know whats going on.

I hadn't heard of that service before. After a month of trying to get through on the DEO line with no luck, I might have to try it. Did they tell you anything specific about the adjudication process when you called?

ya the agent explained everything and put notes in my file that I disputed the employer's reason. She also told me exactly what documents to upload to help my case and marked it for expedited review. The key was just getting to talk to an actual person who could see what was happening on my claim.

I want to clarify something important about Benefit Charging adjudication that others haven't fully explained:\n\n1. Every employer from your base period (typically the first 4 of the last 5 completed calendar quarters before you filed) receives a notice when you file for benefits\n\n2. They don't necessarily have to be \

This is incredibly helpful information, thank you! I'll make sure to frame my responses carefully if I get a questionnaire. I was definitely told it was a \

same boat right now. 42 days and counting on benefit charging adjudication. my employer is definitely fighting it cause they dont wana pay. DEO is so slow its ridiculous. heard some people wait 90+ days. system is so broken!!

90+ days?!? That's insane!!! How are people supposed to survive that long without income? The system is absolutely broken. And of course they don't hire enough adjudicators to handle the workload. It's like they WANT people to give up and not get benefits.

i think it depends on your situation but my benefit charging issue was resolved in just 3 weeks. maybe i got lucky but DEO might be catching up on backlog?? have you tried calling them?

I've tried calling dozens of times but always get disconnected or told the queue is full. 3 weeks would be amazing compared to what others are saying! Did you do anything special to get it resolved quicker?

nothing special really. maybe my case was just simple or my employer didn't contest it? idk the whole system seems really random honestly

Quick follow-up on this: While waiting for adjudication, make sure you continue claiming your weeks on schedule! Many people get confused and stop claiming weeks during adjudication, but you should absolutely continue this process.\n\nFor work search requirements, remember you need to submit 5 work search activities per week unless you have a waiver. Even with a pending adjudication issue, failure to claim weeks or report work search activities can create additional problems later.\n\nAlso, if your adjudication goes beyond 8 weeks (which sadly sometimes happens), you can request an expedited review by sending a message through your CONNECT account. In the message, include your claimant ID, the date the issue was added to your account, and politely request expedition due to financial hardship. This doesn't always work, but it can help in some cases.

Thank you! I've been faithfully claiming my weeks and documenting all my job applications. I'll definitely try the expedited review request if I hit the 8-week mark. Really hoping it doesn't come to that though.

Good point! I've been checking my CONNECT inbox but not focusing as much on email. I'll make sure to watch both closely.
