Will EDD SDI maintenance affect payment timing for today's certification?
Just saw EDD posted that their system is going through maintenance today but I need to certify for my SDI benefits. Anyone know if this will affect when payments go through? I'm really counting on this money hitting my account by Wednesday since my rent is due. Last time there was maintenance my payment was delayed almost a week and my landlord was NOT happy. Should I wait until tomorrow to certify or just do it now and hope for the best?

•Thanks! That's a relief to hear. Did you get your payment within 24-48 hours like usual?

In my experience, the SDI maintenance usually doesn't affect payment processing times as much as UI maintenance does. The systems actually operate on different platforms despite both being under EDD. I'd recommend certifying at your normal time rather than delaying, as delaying certification can sometimes flag your account for review which causes even longer delays. Most maintenance is just routine database updates that don't impact the payment processing queue.

•Oh that's really good to know! I didn't realize SDI and UI were on different systems. Will certify right away then.

DONT LISTEN TO THESE PEOPLE!! Last maintenance they had my payment stuck for 2 WEEKS!!! I called 78 TIMES and couldn't get through!!!! The system is BROKEN and they don't care about us!!!

•That's not typical - there might have been an issue specific to your claim. Maintenance rarely causes 2-week delays unless there were other factors like identity verification issues or eligibility questions on your claim.

•Yikes that sounds awful. Did you ever figure out what caused such a long delay?

I certified during maintenance last month and my payment went through but took 3 days instead of the usual 1-2 days. Not terrible but just fyi it might take an extra day. Also, did anyone notice they changed something in the certification questions? I swear the work availability question looked different yesterday.

•Thanks for the heads up about the potential extra day. And no, I haven't noticed any changes to the questions but I'll pay attention when I certify today.

If you're having trouble reaching EDD by phone to ask about payment delays, I'd recommend using Claimyr. It helped me get through to an actual EDD agent after trying for days on my own. You can see how it works in their demo: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km. Their service connects you directly without having to constantly redial. Saved me so much frustration when my SDI payment was delayed and I needed to speak with someone directly. Their website is claimyr.com if you want to check it out.

•Thanks for the tip! If my payment doesn't show up by Thursday I'll definitely need something like this. Bookmarking it just in case.

This happens every few months and honestly its completely random whether it affects anything. One time my payment was perfectly normal during maintenance and another time it took an extra 4 days. I think it depends what exactly they're working on in the system. If its just updating some web stuff vs if they're doing something with the payment processing system???

•You're right - the impact varies based on what components they're maintaining. Frontend website maintenance rarely affects payment processing, but backend database work occasionally causes delays. They never announce which components are affected though, which is part of the frustration.

SDI is seriously the worst with communication. Nowhere on the site does it actually explain what parts of the system are affected during maintenance or how long processing might take. I'm on SDI for my pregnancy and I swear every week is a different surprise with them. Sometimes I get paid in 24 hours, sometimes 5 days, no rhyme or reason!

•ya pregnancy benefits r confusing. my sister just had baby and said some weeks were fast some slow

•Ugh that's so frustrating! I wish they'd be more transparent about what's happening. I'm on SDI for a back injury and the inconsistency makes budgeting so difficult.

Just to update everyone - I checked the EDD Twitter account and they've specified this maintenance is for the UI Online system, not the SDI Online system. So SDI claimants should see no impact on payment processing times. Hope this helps ease some concerns!

•Thank you so much for checking! That's a huge relief. I'm going to certify right now then.

•This is exactly the kind of clear information EDD should put directly on their website instead of making us hunt for it on social media. Thanks for sharing!

I've been on SDI for about 6 months now and from my experience, the key thing is to just stick to your regular certification schedule regardless of maintenance. I've certified during maintenance probably 4-5 times and while sometimes there's an extra day delay, it's never been more than that for me. The worst delay I had was actually when I waited an extra day to certify "just to be safe" - that ended up flagging something in their system and caused a 10-day review period. Now I just certify on my regular day no matter what and it's been much more consistent. Good luck with your rent situation!

•That's really helpful to know about not waiting to certify! I'm still pretty new to SDI so I wasn't sure if there were unwritten rules about timing. Thanks for sharing your experience - it makes me feel more confident about just sticking to the normal schedule. Fingers crossed my payment comes through on time for rent!

I work in IT and deal with system maintenance regularly - from a technical perspective, the fact that this is UI Online maintenance and not SDI Online is huge. These are completely separate databases and processing pipelines. UI and SDI certifications go through different backend systems even though they share some frontend components. So for SDI folks, this should genuinely be business as usual. The only thing that might cause a slight delay is if they're doing any shared infrastructure work (like network or security updates), but that would typically only add maybe 12-24 hours max to processing time. I'd definitely stick to your normal certification schedule rather than waiting.

•This is super reassuring to hear from someone with IT experience! I was worried because I'm still learning how all this works, but knowing they're truly separate systems makes me feel much better about certifying today. Really appreciate you breaking down the technical side - it's way more helpful than the vague "maintenance happening" notices EDD usually gives us.

I'm on SDI right now and honestly the uncertainty around maintenance is one of the most stressful parts of this whole process. Like you, I depend on these payments for rent and basic expenses, so any delay can really mess things up. From what I'm reading here it sounds like since it's UI maintenance and not SDI, we should be okay, but I totally get the anxiety. I've learned to always certify on my regular day no matter what because waiting seems to cause more problems than it solves. Hope your payment comes through on time for rent! The financial stress on top of whatever health issue you're dealing with is just awful.

•Thank you so much for understanding! You're absolutely right that the financial stress on top of health issues makes everything so much harder. It's reassuring to hear from someone else going through the same situation. I'm definitely going to certify today based on everyone's advice here - it sounds like waiting would just create more problems. Really appreciate this community for helping each other navigate all the uncertainty with EDD. Hope your payments stay consistent too!

I'm new to SDI and was panicking about the same thing earlier today! Reading through all these responses has been so helpful. It sounds like the consensus is to stick to your normal certification schedule since this is UI maintenance, not SDI. I'm dealing with a temporary disability from a car accident and every payment matters right now too. The stress of not knowing if delays will happen is almost worse than the actual delays sometimes! Going to follow everyone's advice and certify on my regular day. Thanks for asking this question - I'm sure lots of us newcomers were wondering the same thing but didn't know where to ask.
