Money Network card replacement after years of inactivity - will EDD mail a new card or send check?

Just got my first EDD payment after almost 4 years! My claim from back in 2021 was on appeal forever, and I finally won. The problem is my old EDD debit card was canceled years ago due to inactivity. The payment shows as 'paid' on UI Online but I can't access the funds. Will EDD automatically send me a new Money Network card? Or will they mail me a paper check instead? Has anyone dealt with this after a long gap between payments? I'm calling tomorrow but wanted to see if anyone has been through this recently.

congrats on winning ur appeal!! thats huge. they send new cards automaticlly but takes like 7-10 days to get it. dont think they do checks anymore unless u specifically asked for it

Thanks! Really hoping I don't have to specifically request it. Been waiting years for this money and every day counts at this point.

They switched from Bank of America to Money Network for EDD debit cards in 2022. Since your last payment was before the switch, you'll definitely need a new card. They should automatically send you one when payments are issued, but in my experience, it can take 10-14 business days to arrive. You can call Money Network directly at 1-800-240-0223 to check if they've already sent a card to you - sometimes that's faster than getting through to EDD.

Oh wow, I didn't even realize they changed card providers! That explains a lot. I'll try calling Money Network first thing tomorrow. I appreciate the tip and specific phone number!

I went through something similar last year. Got a retroactive payment after my disqualification was removed and my old card had been canceled. EDD automatically sent me a new Money Network card without me having to request it. BUT it took almost 3 weeks to arrive which was super frustrating.

3 weeks?!? That's way too long... I've already been waiting for years for this money. Did calling them help speed it up at all?

You might want to try Claimyr to get through to an EDD agent quickly instead of wasting hours on hold. I had a similar issue with my Money Network card not arriving and spent DAYS trying to reach someone at EDD. Finally used Claimyr (claimyr.com) and got connected to an agent in under 20 minutes who expedited my card. They have a video showing how it works: https://youtu.be/JmuwXR7HA10?si=TSwYbu_GOwYzt9km

Never heard of them before but at this point I'm desperate. I'll check out the video. Anything that gets me talking to a real person faster is worth looking into. Thanks!

Important info: When you get your new Money Network card, you'll need to create a completely new online account to access your funds. The old BOA EDD account won't transfer over. Also, if you want paper checks instead of a debit card for future payments, you need to specifically request that through UI Online. Go to "Personal Information" then "Payment Method" and select "Check by Mail" instead of "Debit Card". But this won't affect the current payment - that will still come on a Money Network card.

THE WHOLE SYSTEM IS A NIGHTMARE!!! I waited 5 WEEKS for my Money Network card last year and then THEY SENT IT TO MY OLD ADDRESS even though I had updated my info online!!! Had to request a replacement and wait AGAIN!!! Make SURE your address is updated in BOTH places - UI Online AND Money Network's system (which requires calling them directly). EDD and Money Network don't always share address changes with each other!! TERRIBLE SYSTEM!!

That sounds awful! I just checked and my address is correct in UI Online, but I'll definitely call Money Network too. Didn't realize they have separate systems. Really appreciate the heads up.

Just wanted to mention you can also set up direct deposit now with EDD instead of using the debit card. I switched last month and it's much better - money goes straight to my bank account in 1-2 days after payment is issued. You can change it on UI Online under payment preferences.

That's true, but it only applies to future payments. For the payment that's already been issued, they'll still send a Money Network card. Once you get the card and access those funds, then switching to direct deposit for any additional payments is definitely the way to go!

Update: Finally got through to EDD this morning! For anyone with this issue in the future - they confirmed my payment was sent to Money Network and a new card is being mailed automatically. Should arrive within 7-10 business days. I asked about getting a check instead but was told that's not possible for payments already processed. For future payments though, I've switched to direct deposit. Thanks everyone for the help!

Thanks for the update! Glad you got it sorted. Direct deposit is definitely the way to go once you have access to this payment.

Congrats on finally winning your appeal after 4 years! That's incredible persistence. Just want to add that when you do get your new Money Network card, make sure to activate it right away and set up your PIN. I had a similar situation where my card took 10 days to arrive, but then I had to wait another 2 days because I didn't realize I needed to call to activate it first. The activation number should be on the sticker attached to the card. Also, there might be a temporary daily withdrawal limit until you verify your identity with Money Network, so don't panic if you can't withdraw the full amount immediately.

This is really helpful info! I had no idea about the activation step or potential withdrawal limits. I'll definitely keep this in mind when the card arrives. After waiting 4 years for this money, I don't want any more delays because I missed a simple step like activation. Thanks for sharing your experience!
